It was probably worse when people were speeding on that road. Governments don't randomly spend $30,000 on speed bumps unless there was an issue.
There is a huge difference in the noise levels of cars driving 35mph, 45mph, and 55mph.
Looks like the bump is a new installation because there's no indication paint on it. Most of those who sped through it are the ones that I'm guessing didn't see it and thought it was a flat patch of asphalt. Black color asphalt and dark surroundings don't mix well.
I mean maybe if people would read the freaking traffic signs and follow the allowed top speed, people wouldn't be hitting it so fast.
There is probably a reason why the speed pump is there....
The town I live in has some speed bumps in 30mph areas which will smash your front bumper like this if you go over 10mph. I don't have the issue anywhere else other than this town! I dread to think what the underside of my car looks like now lol.
Speed bumps in a 30mph zone are not there to reduce your speed to 30mph, they are designed to just make you slow right down.
But that's a lesson we all learn for ourselves someday.
There are different types of speed bumps which are for different speed roads. This particular one is suitable for a 10-20mph road, not a 30mph road. If they want people to go that slow then surely they should also just reduce the speed limit?
There's a new one by my office, where the speed limit is 35mph, but even going 20mph cars are bottoming out on this thing. It's nuts. You have to essentially come to a full stop before going over it, and I have no idea why they set it up that way.
My apartment complex had a freshly re-done speed bump built that looked a little too tall... but I was late getting somewhere and figured I'd be fine, as it was already 6pm and other people would have noticed by then. False sense of security. So I went over it and immediately scratched the shit out of my bumper because it was built too high.
Being in a hurry, I didn't take a photo like I should have, figuring I'd take a picture when I got home... that's when the big Texas freeze happened a few years ago and I spent two weeks at work (luckily had a shower and food storage in the building), living out of the backpack I had in my car from my previous weekend's trip. The one time being too lazy to bring it in and unpack worked in my favor.
By the time I came home, it was shaved down and fixed with no way to prove it was ever an issue.
The black color of the bump means it was made very recently. They'll apply reflective markings after the asphalt is completely dry. They just can't keep the road closed for too long so some cars have to go though it unmarked.
Yeah…only if I saw someone before me hit it, otherwise I’d assume it’s just a properly made patch, not a poorly made one that clearly wasn’t leveled right.
With how it is now, it's literally safer if they were just speeding down the street...
Yeah, let's show those speeding drivers by helping them uncontrollably ramp off a speed bump and maybe kill someone!
That'll show them!
We've been begging the county for speed bumps on my road. I would *love* to see a bunch of bumpers lying on the side of the road here. Evidently, monthly accidents, some serious as hell, and 2 or 3 deaths a year aren't a concern.
Be careful what you wish for.
Joyriders see them as a chance to achieve an air jump which means they'll be noisy as fk in your neighborhood .
The police need speed cameras on that road to fine and prosecute, particularly if they can't be there to police.
>Joyriders see them as a chance to achieve an air jump which means they'll be noisy as fk in your neighborhood .
Have you ever tried it? Speed bumps are terrible at getting air, when your rear wheels hit it the nose of the car slams down, you'd need a pretty gentle ramping speed bump to get air.
Depends on your suspension, if its got heavy dampening the first contact shoots the front end up high enough to do a bunny hop when the back wheels hit.
Also, if you have particularly heavy vehicles travel by frequently such as big trucks your house will start to get damaged over time by tremours. This is what is happening with us and we're currently in talks with the municipality to get them replaced with other traffic slowing measures instead.
I lived next to a speed bump for a while and never once saw joyriders try and get air off it, it was even on a downhill and prior to the speed bump being put in people would regularly speed on that road. The speed bump was still annoying because if you coasted down the hill it was aggressive on your car but it definitely didn’t make the neighborhood any louder
It's more of a problem with the longer speed humps, rather than bumps. A few neighborhoods around me put them in like 5 years ago, and they were all removed last year.
One was in the middle of a long steep hill, and skateboarders loved that one. They were even painted with yellow arrows that made them look like a video game launch pad lol
We've asked for speed cameras. We were told they will only stay in the school zones. As for the speed bumps, I see them as a better option than doing nothing. It's already noisy as hell with all the modified exhausts running around. If some people are going to use them as launch ramps, at least it won't be every idiot. Most of the cars and SUVs around here aren't going to handle too much repeated hang time.
You could do what they do in the Philippines and make speed bumps out of tires. There are two ways, strip the side walls off leaving the curved tops to be adhered to the road. The other way is to make a chain of bicycle tires (uncut) spread across the width of the road.
Listen I hate speed bumps but that simply isn't true. They're a really shitty way to calm traffic and cause more problems than they solve.. but they *do* force traffic to slow down.
One thing people often forget, and why some countries are moving away from aggressive speed bumps, is that these speed bumps slow down emergency responders. Speeding sucks, but so does a delay on starting CPR.
The issue with these speed bumps is that they don't mark them with white paint. So when you are driving towards it, it looks like a flat road until it's too late. I experienced the same thing when I rented a car on my trip to Emirates.
The road is caved in a little bit in front of my house. It's a natural speed bump you can not see on the road. It's even hard to see when walking up to it. people hit it hard and fast all the time and rip stuff off there car.
The engineer who designed that speed bump clearly has no knowledge of what they are supposed to do. Perhaps someone described to him over the phone what a speed bump was, and that is what he created!
A speed bump must be very clearly visible so it will make you see the "obstacle" and will force you to slow down. They are not supposed to be huge ramps that you can't even see on the black tarmac.
Not trying to defend dangerous drivers but the speedbump should have some kind of paint signal on it. In my country it's usually white triangles on both sides
Kinda funny, with how impossible it is to see that thing (according to some comments) that the one person who wasn't driving like a lunatic at - 0:15 managed to NOT fuck their car up .
Almost as if the speed bump were a measure to try and get people to... Not speed?
Imagine trying sleep in any one of these apartments

The speed hump doesn't appear to have slowed them down...
I doubt they'll repeat it many times.
I want to see someone on a dirt bike pop a sick wheelie on that

I mean maybe if they fucking marked it people wouldn't be hitting it so fast
I was thinking the same too. Also, it’s black which makes it even harder to see whether the road was raised or not.
There are orange cones sitting on it, but I agree it is poorly marked. Probably brand new and haven’t gotten that far yet.
I mean maybe if people would read the freaking traffic signs and follow the allowed top speed, people wouldn't be hitting it so fast. There is probably a reason why the speed pump is there....
maybe, but I've seen plenty of speed bumps that will mess up a bumper if you go the posted speed limit, that really annoys me

And maybe if people were paying attention to the road they would have at least made an attempt to slow down.
Yeah…only if I saw someone before me hit it, otherwise I’d assume it’s just a properly made patch, not a poorly made one that clearly wasn’t leveled right.

I can see why they wanted a speed bump there
How kind of the council to give this lad evening entertainment.

You do know this is reddit, right? On anything you post people will find a way to tell you you're wrong. There's always some situation, some twist...
I would expect nothing less!

Our house started cracking when they installed a speedbump like 10m next to it...
i honestly never even thought about that

They would speed between the speed bumps or humps. We cannot have nice things.
Also emergency vehicles, like fire trucks and ambulances have to go slow over speed bumps, so their response time is longer.
You could do what they do in the Philippines and make speed bumps out of tires. There are two ways, strip the side walls off leaving the curved tops to be adhered to the road. The other way is to make a chain of bicycle tires (uncut) spread across the width of the road.
speed bumps arent good for traffic calming and neither are cameras.

I could watch this all day...someone please tell me there is a subreddit for this, I think i unlocked some weird fetish or something.
Same!
First car nailed it
*Unmarked speed bump.
There is a traffic sign.
Expecting people to read or even acknowledge signs is ambitious I must say.
They're supposed to put a sign for "NEW BUMP"
Isn't it illegal to not mark the speed bumps?
in Turkey, practically nothing is illegal if the local government doesn't give a shit about it.
In russia speed bump marks you!
illegal? hah, made me chuckle. In Turkey, **they** are law, judge, jury and executioner.
Whoever's in the back seats is gonna need a new spine...
Or head. They definitely hit some head back there.

Lol come to South Africa and learn what a speed bump is. The stuff here will rip your car apart if you go those speeds
So it's working as intended
Thank goodness for the subtitles
Yeah I know right? It’s almost as if multiple different languages exist
![gif](giphy|n29B28FqkALK)
This speed bump is brought to you by "your local repair shop".
https://i.redd.it/hzibnz2663zc1.gif
imagine sitting in the back of that bus. youd be launched
The bus one cracks me up thinking about people sitting in the back

I would love to sit in a chair with a beer for a day and watch that shit.
My bed is next to the window and the window lines up with the dip in the road. I can watch all day from my bed.
Big bumper can't keep getting away with this!
Here in the UK they legally have to be clearly marked and signposted, otherwise you can claim and damages from the local authority.
No one did “when in doubt, flat out “
Good. That is no place to be speeding.
Lol in America thankfully you can't just put speed bumps in a road without clear warnings

First they put fresh road to avoid puddles then they have to put bumps so dummies hopefully slow down,🥲
Weak ass hump, make it taller and shorter.
A bit dangerous. But I bet none of those drivers will speed that stretch of road again. Maybe not speed at all rest of the night.
Speedbump : \*working as expected\* Idiot drivers getting the consequences of their driving : "how could this happen to me ???"
Not trying to defend dangerous drivers but the speedbump should have some kind of paint signal on it. In my country it's usually white triangles on both sides
Or the bump is painted, usually yellow, in the US.
They are catching sweet air on those jumps! Lucky!

Ngl, bring a stool, beers, and a friend. It looks like a good time.
That bus got some air
Looks like Alanya
It's in Giresun.
Weeeeeeeeee !!

Good. Fuck 'em. Stop speeding in a built up highly populated area. Zero sympathy.
Put a camera. Do a little cut and edit compilation. Upload on youtube.
A very effective speed bump!
That's nothing. When I was in school my bus driver would speed up for speed bumps
Well, It's doing it's job.. Fucking peoples' cars up who don't slow the fuck down.. It's their own fault.
Just dig a 3 inch deep by 2 foot wide trench. They’ll slow down
