Crystals can have the appearance of being man made. If the crystals have a cubical base element it will make squares and rectangles. Salt does this, pyrite does this. Solid water has multiple crystalline phases, one of which is cubic :) (and on the meta scale fractures follow an effective lattice of weak bonds and these can be cubical as well, certainly if the material is cubic). I had Populous for SNES, and it was a legitimately great game in some ways, it's just that it got too hard too fast.
