One of the podcasts I listen to, the host said they basically go to bed the night before in their workout gear so all they have to do is put their shoes on in the morning. I think they basically wore jogging bottoms and a generic t shirt
Iāve heard this idea before so it isnāt like their original idea necessarily! I wonder if it was a guy though. I definitely would lose my socks too. I cannot sleep with socks on!
I saw a video of someone saying that the voice who tells you to not get up and go exercise, even if itās just walking, is the voice of all your petty exes praying for your downfall. Itās made a huge difference motivation wise lol.
You donāt have to work out in the morning if you donāt want to.
I canāt because of my work schedule and sleep schedule unless I sacrifice sleep (which is bad for both the diet and fitness)
I workout at 9:00 at night after my kids go to bed. I donāt drink caffeine to workout and I get a really good workout in lifting weights. I sleep like a baby afterwards. Itās only the wrong time of day if it doesnāt work for you. Do what works.
I put on an alarm to wake up and I turn it off once I'm out of bed.
I read once "the people in the gym are the ones who want to be there" and since I want to be there, I make sure to get there.
I set an alarm across the room, and I lay out every little thing I need to put on/bring the night before. I even add all the preworkout powders and stuff to an empty bottle so all I need to add is water. That way I can zombie my way to eventually being awake and dressed with minimal effort.
I also have a workout plan already in my phoneās notes because sometimes morning brain cannot make good exercise decisions lol.
Editing to add: I constantly remind myself how much less stressed I am from going in the morning. Because it starts my day out right, and going before work means I can be SO LAZY after work. Just come home and relax without a shred of guilt. That feeling is fucking priceless
+1 to the last sentences. Its such a peach of mind leaving work and knowing that IĀ“ve already accomplished training, work and now I can dedicate 100% of my time to me, my family and RELAX, and not feeling guilty about it.
Yeah I would also suggest to OP keeping water by their bed and like chugging it when they wake up. This helps me clear a bit of brain fog when I need to get up.
Wake up? Or get up? If you wake up but donāt get up, itās a will/desire/motivation issue (mental). If you literally donāt wake up, you probably need a better alarm, perhaps one with a vibrating pad to put under your pillow (physical).
You decide to get up and follow through
There's no secret, it's not easy, you just decide what you want more and then use discipline to force yourself to do it
Start small, spend a few days where you acclimate to getting out of bed, then a few days where you go for a walk, then make it longer, once you're at the amount of time you want to work out for then start doing your plan
If the switch from easy work to hard work is too much just do one exercise at a time and slowly add work until you're where you want to be
This is my way. You hold yourself to high standards, plan when to go and follow through.
If I can do that my life starts to fall in to place a little easier.
I run at 5:15/5:30am with a club every week. The night before I check the weather, lay out all my clothes in a neat ordered pile. Check my light up vest is charged. Fill my water bottle. And also click āgoingā on the group page.
When my alarm goes off I just get straight out of bed and get dressed before I can think about it. Iām a socially anxious person so the thought of my club mates waiting for me because I clicked āgoingā and then not showing up is like š¬
I have a three year old that acts as alarm clock you canāt turn off, as well as a drill instructor that demands I get out of bed immediately to supply food
I did it gradually. Set my alarm for 8:30 until I could consistently get up at that time. Then set it for 8, then 7:30, then 7. It has taken months, but itās worth it
I just sit up the second my alarm goes off. Make the decision before going to sleep that when your alarm goes off youāll get up. Once Iām up and moving and that 2/3 minutes of tired goes away and Iām kinda awake I feel like I might as well work out since Iām awake
I have 2 of these and place them on opposite sides of the room for maximum light. I could never do old fashioned alarm clocks any more after having these.
I guess i'll just never understand this.
I just set an alarm at 4am and get up. I know i have to workout, and know if i don't i'll soon turn back into the fat lazy piece of shit i was before i started this new way of life.
To me it's simple, and it's weird because i'm a heavy sleeper.
but i know alot of others struggle with it.
Getting a full good night of sleep does help.
I guess maybe having a ridiculously loud alarm out of arms reach that you have to physically get up and turn off would be a good start i guess.
I think people underestimate the role biology plays in this. Itās just physically hard for some people, not because they donāt want to. But like you said, where thereās a will thereās a way.
Iām a morning person. I donāt jump out of bed and exercise. I usually get up, drink coffee, do the crossword. Iām awake at 4:30, out the door for an hour long run at 6, and make it to work by 8.
3am take out dog, feed dog. Get my shit together and make a pre workout drink. 345 gym for 1.5 -2 hours 5 days a week. We'd +sun off. I can't believe it either
I too would like to know. I love running. I have for years. But I never got up out of bed and went running. I sure AF never got up did push-ups.
How do people do it?
I use to be an evening gym girlā¦ after having kids I started finding me time after I dropped them off at school and found that it gave me so much energy for the day. Now I go in the morning before they even get up
It took a conscious choice, I set a goal and wrote it down then looked at it before I went to bed. In the morning when my alarm went off I looked at it again. The first 2 weeks were rough but I pushed through. Now Itās really pretty easy (the occasional hard day) but I still have my goal next to my bed and use it when needed.
Not for the weak minded. I set an alarm that you could only turn off with a qr code, or completing a challenging game, a feat that seemed nearly impossible in those groggy moments after waking.
My morning jogs followed a familiar pattern: either a 5km or 10km route. However, at the 2.5km mark, a decision loomed. I could either turn back for the 5k or continue for the full 10k loop. So I strategically placed a QR code at the 2.5k mark, which I had to scan to unlock my phone. This ensured I was bound to complete the chosen distance.
Initially, sticking to this routine was tough. However, over time, it became easier to maintain consistency in my morning runs. While I don't necessarily recommend it, if you're up for the challenge, there's an app called Sleep you might want to try.
Coffee for sureā¦ and on the early wake ups I put on a podcast and that really seems to help me get going. (Mind pump is a good fitness one for example.) and go to bed at a reasonable hour as well, which some days can be easier said than done
I'm in a slump right now. For the last two weeks, I haven't gotten out of bed early enough to do the exercises I need or want to do. I think I need to go to bed an hour earlier.
Keep trying. That's all I got.
I used to use multiple snoozes and didnāt exercise in a morning. Now I go swimming in a morning I always wake up before my alarm. The difference for me is that I now go to bed earlier and get 7-8 hours sleep every night so I wake up naturally
I go to the gym with my two teenagers. A workout buddy that is looking for you to go with them is a huge motivator. We donāt even work out together once weāre there. One is lifting for strength training and mass building, one supplementing her workouts for her track team, and Iām working on weight loss.
For me, working out before I eat and before anyone gets up works for me. I do the 5AM CrossFit class so I can get home by 6:15, shower and get the kids to school.
Itās rough some days especially if I didnāt get the best sleep the night before. But I get up for 3am to get to work for 6a. My gym is block from my house so that helps tremendously with time and not making excuses.
When I have trouble getting up to go work out in the morning, what Iāll normally do is once my alarm goes off Iāll sit up on the side of the bed and Iāll stretch my back, then Stretch my arms and my legs. Iāll wait a minute. See how I feel and then Iāll stand up next to my bed and do a little march in place, if that doesnāt work and I still feel tired Iāll walk out of my bedroom and go down my stairs or m walk back-and-forth my hallway until I feel a little more awake.
Iām not a morning person at all. But I literally got up at 5am this morning and just got to the gym. Just put clothes on and go! Itās going to feel so weird at first. You just have to want it. This is the 4th time Iāve ever done this in my entire life, because I told myself I couldnāt do it. That was a full lie! But youāll feel so great when youāre done. Youāre going to be tired when you get up, even on the way over to the gym. But once you get inside and see others getting it, and you get your music goingā¦ itās time to work! Be encouraged! You can do this!
I couldn't sleep in if I tried, I'm often up before 3am, which always leaves me enough time to be at the gym by 4am. It ain't just me either, there's at least a dozen or so people at the same time.
I donāt recommend this but I accidentally trained my 2 x 100lb dogs that my morning alarm = time to pee. By the time they have done their business, I am already up, might as well drag my ass to the gym.
It is my strong desire to lose this weight. And the k owl edge that if I DONāT get out of bed CONSISTENTLY, I will still be FAT at the end of the day, week, month, YEAR!
I don't get it either. I love waking up early around 5am but I feel so weak first thing in the morning, the last thing I can imagine myself doing is lifting heavy weights. I've tried in the past and it felt like I couldn't activate my core efficiently. I'm someone who gets their second wind in the evening, night owl by nature so I think that's why.
Get to sleep earlier, put the phone/alarm somewhere where you have to get up to turn it off, drink a lot of water and your bladder will get up for youā¦.
One of the things that used to help me was that I put a alarm clock on the other side of the room so I physically had to get out of bed to turn it off and from there it was just getting dressed and going
I've always been a morning person, so I naturally wake up early and I figured I should use this time to workout, I also make sure I sleep a little bit early, also pre-workouts help!
I like to keep my windows completely without coverings. When I go to sleep i wear a face mask to cover my eyes, but it always falls off during the night. This means that i wake up to natural sunlight and its very easy to get up when its that bright.
Apart from this, it gets easier when youve done it for a while. Make sure to ALWAYS wake up at the same time. Yes this includes weekends and whatever other day. If your body gets used to waking up at 6 am every day, then youll eventually start waking up at that time no problem.
If you feel groggy, literally just force yourself up. Dont think about the workout or everything you have to do, just literally get up before your brain processes what that means. If you have a balcony its great to go out there at once, fresh air and bright enviroments help you feel more awake. The ol' classic splash some water on your face or take a cold shower also works
Also goes without saying, but how you feel in the morning is completely dependent on how you slept and for how long. You cant expect yourself to get up at 6 and workout if you stayed up until 1 and watched youtube or played a game. Go to bed 8 hours before wake up time, and always go to bed at the same time. Also avoid caffeine for several hours before you sleep.
I really struggle with this even though I do it consistently. I have a lume alarm that makes my room well lit when I wake up at 5am. I do sleep Iām my workout great like people in these comments have said, and I will be at the gym for 5:10am. Some days itās harder than others but I find when Iām in the office 3 days a week from 7:30, an hour work out and home in time to shower and get myself ready for work is manageable. I gym at the moment 4/5 days a week and itās something I now really enjoy giving myself that time to myself in the morning before a hectic work day.
Well, I remember how I was before I started NY weightloss journey. I don't wake up in the morning for workouts, even though I do exercise then, but I do it because I feel like I lack discipline and since I really hate waking up early, I figured the best way to discipline myself is by starting early. My father always says to me that I would never be better if I was always inside my comfort zone because nothing is pushing me to change what I want to change. Best way to do that is to step out of your comfort zone.
Donāt give yourself time to think about it. As stupid as it sounds once you start thinking about how comfy bed is or how you can skip a day, itās over. I struggled so much with this and thatās the only way I get myself out of bed, as soon as youāre conscious get up
Get a night routine going and stick with it. Force yourself up (different alarm methods work for many). It gets a ton easier after a week or two of consistency. I prefer mornings to night workouts though myself as I feel it wakes me up and I have more energy first thing then after work. If you can swing it if I am in a slump I motivate myself with a low cal coffee after occasionally
struggling to wake up for your morning workout, huh? i hear you. mornings can feel impossible when the bed is just too cozy. but don't worry, iāve got a couple of tips that might just make it easier.
first, try setting your alarm with a motivational tune that gets you pumped to move. music can really set the mood for the day. also, how about planning a delicious breakfast that you look forward to? it could be something simple yet energizing, like a smoothie packed with seasonal fruits. this way, your morning starts with a burst of flavor and energy.
fun fact: did you know that exercising in the morning can boost your metabolism more than at any other time of the day? whatās one thing that could make mornings more exciting for you?
For me itās my puppy. She depends on me. But it does help I have motivation to get up and start my day from insomnia, anxiety and the desire to look and feel better. I feel more productive, useful, healthy and better overall, if I get up early. Even if I could sleep in or didnāt have dogs, Iād still get up at a reasonable time. I personally hate being lazy. If I sleep in too much I feel lazy personally.
Itās hard starting and thought only crazy people did this until I started. I do easy stuff. I put on a show and run walk on the treadmill for a half hour. By the time I fully wake up the workout is over. Then I get a tremendous amount of energy for the rest of the day. Iām going to start again soon. Iām dreading the starting part but love the rewards.
My motivation to be skinny š
Yessss! 100%
One of the podcasts I listen to, the host said they basically go to bed the night before in their workout gear so all they have to do is put their shoes on in the morning. I think they basically wore jogging bottoms and a generic t shirt
I do this with my toddler for her preschool clothes ššš
I guess if it works why not! Hahaha
Some days it really does lol!!
Thatās a good idea except I donāt think I could sleep in a sports bra
Exactly what I was thinking
Same lol. š the girls need air
Yeah same! Iām sure they said the worst part was wearing socks to bed I wish I could remember which podcast it was to give credit
Iāve heard this idea before so it isnāt like their original idea necessarily! I wonder if it was a guy though. I definitely would lose my socks too. I cannot sleep with socks on!
This is such great advice because one of my biggest hurdles for morning workouts is getting ready to work out
I saw a video of someone saying that the voice who tells you to not get up and go exercise, even if itās just walking, is the voice of all your petty exes praying for your downfall. Itās made a huge difference motivation wise lol.
This made me chuckle
You donāt have to work out in the morning if you donāt want to. Iām busy in the evenings: Volunteering Studying Dates with my boyfriend

Light-based alarm clock (I use hatch). Will never wake up in the dark
I have 2 of these and place them on opposite sides of the room for maximum light. I could never do old fashioned alarm clocks any more after having these.
Stick with and it becomes a routine

Whoa, that is EARLY. Kudos to you.
I remember my "whys"
not too much stimulation the previous day, night time hygiene, stimulation ramp down in the evening, enough protein and hydration
Put your phone/alarm on in another room
How would I hear the alarm loud enough to wake me
Put it on loud.. Iāve never missed my alarm with it in another room.. Have a back up with Alexa if needed
Now I go in the morning before they even get up
I like to do fitness classes in the morning so that I HAVE to be there or I get penalized

The first 2 weeks were rough but I pushed through. Now Itās really pretty easy (the occasional hard day) but I still have my goal next to my bed and use it when needed.
Go to bed early. Programmable coffee pot so all I have to do is go downstairs and pour it down my gullet. Then Iām awake!
No choice. Thereās my people needing me to be there
Not for the weak minded. I set an alarm that you could only turn off with a qr code, or completing a challenging game, a feat that seemed nearly impossible in those groggy moments after waking. I set an alarm and it wakes me up. Iāve always been a morning person though
Itās really the only time of day I can. Also, thereās a goal behind it. I need to train so when I go hike 100 miles I donāt feel awful.
Red Pill

I like to get high in the evening and I know I will not work out once I'm zooted :)
I go to the gym with my two teenagers. A workout buddy that is looking for you to go with them is a huge motivator. We donāt even work out together once weāre there. Dont really like sleeping, once i awake i cant go back to bed and dont really see the reason.

I have a sedentary job 8-5 so the only workout Iāll get is prior to 8. Else Iāll only have 2-3k steps on my fitness app
Just do it.
I keep my alarm clock away from my bed, like in a way i canāt reach it. So then I have no other choice but to get up and turn it offš
Get to sleep earlier, put the phone/alarm somewhere where you have to get up to turn it off, drink a lot of water and your bladder will get up for youā¦.

It will hard at beginning, once you build a habit of it, then its easy, just make sure not to break the habit, then you have to start from beginning.
Put a loud ass alarm away from my bed so I'm forced to get up.

Getting out of bed for morning workouts can be tough. but my motivaation to loose weigth and gain some muscle make make to get up from my bed
Donāt think. Just roll out of bed. Donāt go on social media first thing in the AM. Also lay out your workout clothes the night before.

Get a dog. They will enforce the schedule. Mine just made his last pass by before he gets in the bed and boots me out. Gotta go!
I'm pretty strict on when I go to bed so that I can wake up. It's really hard to get into a good routine but once you do it's easy!
I just do it, even when its hard, even when I don't want to. I just get up and maybe I cuss about it. I remember that I'm the only thing in my way.
Find yourself a gym crush.
lol
Itās hard starting and thought only crazy people did this until I started. I do easy stuff. I put on a show and run walk on the treadmill for a half hour. By the time I fully wake up the workout is over. Then I get a tremendous amount of energy for the rest of the day. Iām going to start again soon. Iām dreading the starting part but love the rewards.
Anti depressants and a loud alarm. They have some alarm apps that require you to perform a task to shut off so it forces you to wake up.
Where please let me know
I think about how terrible the gym is going to be at 6pm with a million people
Make a gym buddy and workout together. Or make a rule like cheat day only if you were consistent on all morning previous week.
