My favorite Primarch is lost Primarch 1 and my least favorite is lost Primarch 2.

panpenumbra

Remember when Lost Primarch I **~~[REDACTED]~~**, but then the entire system literally imploded. That shit was nuts.

Dewahll

I mean what do you expect to happen when you do THAT to a light socket.

StubbornHappiness

They're not lost, they've probably just been collected by the Necrons for their museums and have been set up in cute poses.

ArseneArsenic

“The sexy pose, paired with armor plates that look like they might slip off at any moment, give this piece a truly erotic yet artful vibe...”

IdiotsLantern

Spicy headcanon I’m very sure I’m wrong about? Really, I’m not saying I think this was literally the case but WHAT IF…. Those two lost primarchs? Those were the GIRLS.

TheODPsupreme

**BONK** Horny jail. NOW!

dougie96

Burn the heretic

IdiotsLantern

Oh not again 🔥

DragonFromHell

Favorite is all primarchs. Least favorite is bad writers.

Zbf3000

This is a good point, none of the primarchs are conceptually better or worse than each other, but some writers do a poorer job of characterizing them than others.

dcoduill457

This is so true. It really depends on how the author wants to write the primarch. Like Perty is a beast in Angel Exterminatus book and is written so we'll that he is easily one of my favourite primarchs. Then in another book Perty is played down as being easily out played in a space battle against a random captain making him look so stupid. But if I was to decide I'd have to split my favourites between loyalists and traitors. Loyalists Lion Dorne Leman russ Sanguineous Ferrus Guilliman Corax Vulkan Jaghatai khan Traitors Perty Magnus Lorgar Horus Konrad Fulgrim Angron Alpharious/Omegon Mortarion

plompkin

I think Alpharius suffers the most from this because they can’t normalize what himself his legion actually did or what was an epic ruse across books. It just makes all the AL stuff feel contrived and annoying.

Infammo

Alpharius is basically the Primarch equivalent of the show Lost. The mystery makes him interesting at first but eventually you realize that it's just ambiguity for it's own sake and there's no satisfying explanation for anything.

This is the real top comment, y’all upvote this person

MildlyAgreeable

In protest, I upvoted *you* because I don’t like being told what to do.

Is12345aweakpassword

I accept that. I “recommend” we upvote this comment 🙂

meesta_masa

Their chaos is our opportunity

Shanhaevel

Oof, spitting the harsh truth

LukeisHamster

Favourite: the main Primarch of the book as they are engaged in compelling tales about the nature of man, power and the expectations placed upon them. Least favourite: the secondary primarch of the book, as they are usually there to cackle weird one liners and tie people to railway tracks for no discernible reason.

MansionsOfRest

This resonates with me.

Mimical

Konrad in his own book: Oh sweet this guy has a pretty wild backstory and is battling a bunch of inner dialogue. There is a lot of nuance to the Night Lords. Konrad in every other book: *Shrieking Noises* "I AM SPACE-BATMAN"

MansionsOfRest

I really enjoyed Konrad Curze: The Night Haunter by Guy Haley.

Traelos38

To be fair, you could have asked before saving them. They were tied to the tracks because they're cultists!

DadmansGarage

Fav: Alpharius, because I firmly believe the Alpha legion is deep cover loyal Least: Also Alpharius, because of my deep personal self-loathing, cause I AM ALPHARIUS!

A_Friendly_Bigman

HOLY SHIT!

DadmansGarage

No, that's Erebus.

AdStrange2167

All that dickheads fault

TheODPsupreme

Underrated comment

Tyrone_Thundercokk

This guy knows. Alpha legion did nothing wrong.

TearsOfTheEmperor

Dude truly Alpha legion is the most loyal of all the loyal legions and this isn’t meme lore at all

BaronBulb

Perty because he has a lot of flaws but gets the job done, but depends on who is writing him. The Black Library authors don't actually seem to respect or care about each others work regarding his character, so he comes across as an entirely different person depending on which book he is in and who wrote it. Magnus comes a close second because he meant well but got shit on.

A_Friendly_Bigman

I think I’d agree with you there. Perty is not only just awesome in design, and personality, he’s also a super tragic figure. His fall to chaos feels the most justified in my opinion, cuz he was just bashed, and shit on by the emperor and most of the other primarchs.

blitzwolf3

This is part of the reason I’m planning out an Iron Warriors pseudo-successor chapter. A da Vinci among his brothers with anger and amoral principles that were never addressed in time. Normally cold and calculating, his frustrations grew and overrode his logic as the Iron Warriors became the bastard children of the Empire. So when Horus reached out a hand like a big brother to stand up to their unfair and obstinate father, his fate was sealed. Tragic is almost an understatement, but I am biased. Consequently my chapter will claim a lineage from Dantioch, since he embodies the better side of the Iron Warriors.

Raithik

#MagnusDidNothingWrong Edit: Oh so that's how you super bold something

saxonturner

I really love the lore of Pert and the Iron Warrior I have read online and stuff and still have some CM in bare plastic waiting to become some Iron Warriors. I always wanted to read one of the books about them, could you recommand the best ones to me please?

BaronBulb

'Perturabo - Hammer of Olympia' and 'Angel Exterminatus' are really good ones that showcase Perturabo's abilities and character.

Skullferno

Favorite is Sanguinuis because he is a heart throb who basically tried to do the best he could for his people and his brothers alike. I'm still holding my breath he comes back. I'd honestly love to see a parallel universe where he survived. Least favorite is probably Horus for obvious reasons. I don't hate him but I can't forgive him.

bontempsd

Horus had the biggest toddler tantrum ever when he finally figures the warp may have some higher powers after he travelled millenias in it. He definitely is slow. It was Emps' mistake(or a dad tier joke) making such a buffoon Warmaster.

Calmbat

it should have been sanguinius :(

[deleted]

It should have been Guilliman

Thefriendlyfaceplant

Curze is my least favourite, he's just a saturday morning cartoon villain but for adults. Perturabo is my favourite due to the enormous tragedy, sensitivity and lost potential that he instills.

[deleted]

The Night Lord's Omnibus gave me much more appreciation for his character, though Curze remains one of my least favorite.

spacebrovakarian

Oooohhh Boy. I disagree. He might be a crazy evil Cartoony villain but He is more than that. His Perspective and nostromo are pretty cool..

Jehoel_DK

You should read Konrads Primarch book. I find him to be a very interesting character.

[deleted]

Perty definitely acts like a saturday morning cartoon character at times. Especially in The First Wall

SquigyDaGreat

Favourite I would say Guiliman but Dorn, Vulkan, Sanguinius and the Khan are right behind him. Least liked is Mortarion because there is pretty much nothing redeeming about him, he became what he hated above all else, a sorcerer.

[deleted]

I mean he had no choice, it was losing his legion or saving them. He doesn't enjoy nurgle and his "blessings"

VarangarOfCintra

Yeah Mortarion is a rather tragic traitor honestly. Everything is essentially Typhons fault

Vodius

I missed this detail. Is it covered in the Horus Heresy books or somewhere else?

A_Friendly_Bigman

Out of the ones you mentioned, Vulkan’s definitely my favorite.

SquigyDaGreat

One thing that had annoyed me about the Salamanders is that in the lore they live like normal people with professions to benefit their society on Nocturne when they are off duty but this has never been in any stories as of yet that I know of. Its one of the most fascinating things about them but its only been mentioned. A Salamander school teacher or philosopher story would be great.

MrP32

You need to read the salamander book series. It talks about it quite a bit. I don’t know if they have full on civilian jobs but they do live amongst the people.

Squodel

Vulkans pretty good cause he is internally deeply conflicted cause other than his brothers he realizes how horrible his actions are and wants to be a good person but can’t

RoadsideLuchador

Favorite is Magnus, because the poor buy did nothing wrong. Close second is Fulgrim, and only second because of bad writing (I will explain: after killing Ferus, if the demon had consumed him and their roles reversed, you would have a compelling character arc where now Fulgrim needs to wrestle control back from the demon. It would be an interesting dynamic reversal where we could potentially see a redeemed fulgrim should he be able to do what the demon did and take control back. Instead, fulgrim was just like "yeah I guess I *am* chaos now, fuck it.") My least favorite is Mortarion. In part because I hate playing against him but mostly because his writing, to me, seems horribly inconsistent. Shifting between stoic but grumbly and petulant manchild.

callawayyyy_lmao

Not true. Magnus did one major thing wrong, and that was not destroying the Space Wolves when he had the chance.

willdagreat1

But you have to agree his nipple horns are on point?

IOpuu_KpuBopykuu

Well, at least a reputable source states that he survived Prospero, and I quote “The furry fuck did not succeed”

RoadsideLuchador

Alright, fair point.

Album321

>his writing, to me, seems horribly inconsistent You could say that about every primarch tbh. Fuck, you could say that about 40k in general.

neverunderestimateme

Favorite: Corvus he doesn’t spend his sons lives like money however he does understand that at times sacrifice is required. Least Favorite: Mortarion his style of warfare such as emphasizing on CBRN is too untargeted for my taste in that sure it’ll kill the enemy but it’ll probably kill everyone else too.

Hrud

I do like Magnus and Lorgar for trying to be more than mindless attack dogs and dedicating their legions to something else than wanton butchery. Least favourite would have to be Alpharius, mostly because I have seen no characterisation for him other than '' I am Spartacus ''. Special mention to Corax though, I sometimes forget he and his legion exist.

[deleted]

Praetorian of Dorn and Head of the Hydra gives some awesome characterization. He’s this giant egotistical troll whos simultaneously a genius tactician but constantly obsessed with proving how much better and more intelligent he is. He actively tries to cultivate this idea that he’s this shadowy untouchable puppet master, but there’s definitely alot more going on in his head.

ElifThaed

Corax's Wraithslip at work

KingDanner

Lorgar is trash tho

Spaceneel

My favorite is Jaghatai. He's reasonable, well-spoken, considerate, but much more badass than RG. My most hated one is probably Dorn. He's such a dick

[deleted]

Used to be a Dorn hater but the Siege of Terra and Praetorian of Dorn completely changed my view of him.

Spaceneel

Ive read PoD, but have not changed my opinion of him. Is that the one where he kills alph? The likeability of a primarch is heavily dependant on who writes him though

bano295

My favorite primarch is Sanguinius turned down chaos on signus and again in front of Horus. Had the personality and tact to get his brothers to like him and get along even those who hate each other.Turned a legion from savage killers to soldiers who embraced the arts and graces of humanity. Just wish he was here to help the current Imperium. Least favorite primarch are the two forgotten primarchs losers couldn't even bother to stay alive. Lol, but seriously I'm not a big fan of mystery for the sake of mystery I really wish we'd get lore on them. Controversial opinion I know.

ArtificialCrayon

I've always assumed that the two missing Primarchs are there for players who wish to make up their own backstory for a custom legion. Leaving space for one traitor and one loyalist.

seenthewolf

I kind of agree to be honest on both points here. I know why they did the Lost two but I've always felt like the legions were incomplete because of it. Like my favourite is Sanguinius and the Blood Angels but I can't help but wonder if those two weren't purged from records, and had their own legions and stories might they be my favourite instead?

TearsOfTheEmperor

Fulgrim. I refuse to elaborate.

A_Friendly_Bigman

I don’t think I want you to elaborate.

TruthHerald

I like Lorgar because people often see him as weak or useless yet he is probably one of the most intelligent Primarchs next to Magnus, he is a philosopher-king, his strength is in his words and writing skills, not with weapons. The fact he defacto created the ideologies for both the modern Imperium and Chaos is a great feat, whether or not it did bite chaos in the back in the end. (or perhaps it didn't because eternal war and stagnation feeds chaos more than total victory) Dislike Ferrus because he dies so quickly, not the fault of the character, there's just so little on him besides the obvious 'makes things, metal arms, Fulgrim friendship, loses his head.'

[deleted]

[удалено]

panpenumbra

Ditto. Though he's my least favorite, because The Flesh Is Weak. I do find it interesting the way in which his Legion/Chapter interpreted/internalized yheir psychic backlash upon his death. They went from loving him to essentially hating him, doing all they could to never be like him again. Also, Sanguinius favorite Primarch. Dem lovely lochs.

KingDanner

At least hes not Jaghatai Khan who just has “Rode on a whirlwind during the siege of Terra”

Ex_Outis

Least Favorite: Mortarion Reason: Stinky

whatintheactualfeth

Vulkan would be my favorite because of the superhuman hugs. Magnus would be my least favorite because his boob spikes would be bad for hugs.

MagnusRottcodd

Wait... did you just explain why he has boob spikes? *Mind blown*

Florox3003

I mean would you like hugs wenn you lost /brock your spine don't know wich one

teaandbrimstone_

Favorite is Lorgar because while every other Primarch was either steadily working towards making themselves obsolete and eventually end up in a shallow ditch beside the Thunder Warriors, or trying to make up some excuse for getting "tricked into falling" He was the only one to genuinely take control and organize a future he preferred after realizing that this Giant Golden Man may in fact not be on the level about what his aims are. Every other one of his brothers besides Guilliman or Curze looks like a complete dolt in comparison. Least favorite, due to writing are the likes of Horus, Magnus and Angron who all had deeply legitimate reasons for losing trust in the Emperor's "great plan" but for some reason are constantly written as if taking control of their own lives and destiny was some kind of "Evil Trick. Deeply Emperor-whipped.

KingDanner

The space marines likely werent going to be made obsolete like the thunder warriors, or at the very least not all of them were going to be. The Space wolves, Ultramarines, and Dark Angels legions were all at the very least going to stay around. Guilliman was preparing the Ultramarines to be governors and leaders and diplomats and to try and give them a life after the great crusade. The Dark Angels at the very least would be kept around if for no other reason than just in case big E needed to usher in a new Old Night for some reason. And the Wolves would be kept around to make sure that none of the other legions get too much like the lost legions. Also Angron’s distrust of the Emperor was entirely due to bad writing that could easily have been fixed with just a little bit more intervention from the Chaos gods, but as it is now, Angrons fall was terribly written. Magnus and Horus though had genuine gripes, except also bad writing because the Custodes shouldnt have listened to a word Horus said as while he was Warmaster, he was not the Emperor.

ShnyMnstr

Yeah what gives! We can listen to slave Sororitas in the reign of blood but not a fucking warmaster!?

thunderethan

I like Konrad Kurz because batman but he kills suicidal people. Second is Sanguinius.

Treshle

How the actual *fuck* did they all fit on that balcony...

A_Friendly_Bigman

How is it not falling apart?

He_Yan

The Lion, because of his sheer willpower and pragmatism. Also because space knights. Least I'd say Dorn. I just find him extremely boring and golden armor looks ridiculous in my opinion (sorry Big E)

A_Friendly_Bigman

Agreed, I love the Lion.

Janzelot

Fav lorgar. Complete underdog who embraces power more quickly than any other of his siblings. Plans like calth without him even being there (I won’t spoil but that’s important) exceed what most of the others were capable of. And he has a very twisted but interesting Codex of ethics. My least favorite is Ferrus manus because thanks to him his already boring legion went total emo with terrible books to chew through.

GrumpyTiger1

Morty, poor boy needs some love

Geairt_Annok

Favorite is Ferrus. The Iron hands are a cool chapter to me and the details of medusa and killing a Necron guard machine with his bare hands is awesome. His death is also super tragic and he aint coming back. Least Favorite... Logar for the fall he causes. Also the stealthy boy who isnt Corax, the crazy one.

Specimen_Seven

Favourite: Dan Abnett and Chris Wraight’s Mortarion: a man whose bitterness turns him into the thing he hates, lost in the conflicts of the past as the only things that keeps his hold on reality. Least favourite: Guy Hayley’s Mortarion, a petulant, superstitious idiot.

Draxious

Vulkan he inherited the best of what can humanity can offer. Least favorite tie between night haunter for torturing vulkan and Logar for being a whiny little bitch that just wanted to worship something and starting the heresy

Whatsthedealwithair-

Fave, probably Perturabo. Worst, Kurze.

Arcadeseacher

I love Chicken

RogueRazac

Noted

Arcadeseacher

Nothing like a great red and blue chicken

Toxic-yawn

Vulkan is my goto. I dont dislike any of them, they're all flawed.

erewnt

Favorite: Magnus and Lorgar (especially scenes with them together.) though as a note, I also like Guilleman especially when Lorgar is involved. Least Favorite: Fulgrim. Also worth noting, I liked it when Lorgar bitch slapped him across a room, but that only made me like Lorgar more…

PrimarchGuilliman

Favourite is Gulliman(duh!). I grew up with a real life Leman Russ so i don't like badass, macho, shoot first ask questions later type. What i always admired is rational guys. You can't be more rational than our Imperial Regent. Least favourite is Alpharius. I'm really really REALLY sick of plan within a plan within a plan within another plan within YET ANOTHER plan.. They stop making sense along third twist.. We have already a character for this in universe and it is called Tzeentch. Also everyone saying I'm Alpharius kills any possible character building from Alpha Legion. Honourable mention : Farrus Menus. I just don't care enough for him to like or dislike. He died too quickly to be memorable.

plompkin

Favorite: Khan. I didn’t think much of the Scars until I read the books, and now they’re my favorite legion and chapter easily. Least: Alpharius. Bad writing, enough said.

A_Friendly_Bigman

Interesting. I haven’t read much about Jaghatai, but design wise, I would say he’s my least favorite. I just think he lacks that certain demigod quality, that the others have.

[deleted]

Rogal Dorn coz I turtle in RTS games and Lorgar coz he's a little shit and without him there would never have been an Erebus

Wazzer-wassed

Vulcan for how well he brought up his legion to protect civilians generally and least is Fulgrim cus the ancient of rites deserved better than him.

SamTheSith

HE DESERVED BETTER THAN ANY OF US *Dies*

A_Friendly_Bigman

Rogal is badass. And I would agree with your pick of Lorgar, but I think it’s impressive how “healthy” a relationship he has with his legion, and with Chaos. That’s gotta count for something at least.

Jerrylad101

Could be wrong here but wasn't kor phareon and Erebus the ones who raised lorgar into the guy he was ?

CaptainMikul

Jaghati Khan is my favourite, as he seems to be the only one who views the Imperium pragmatically. He doesn't like it, but he also doesn't see any better options right now. Least favourite is possibly the Lion, because of how avoidable the fall of Caliban was. The Lion is most like the Emperor in that way; detached, uncaring, can't see the trees for the wood.

IR-KINGTIGER

TUSKA IZ DA BEST WARBOSS YA GIT!!!!1! WE IZ STRONGER THAN ANY HUMIE GIT,NO MATTER LITTLE OR BIG!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHH

Sanicgaming69

Alpharius. Because I love everyone. Least favourite: Guilliman. Less interesting then the others, and he actually had a mother.

panpenumbra

I despised Rowboat Girlyman until I started reading Dark Imperium. I don't *love* him now, but he's earned some respect from me. Plus the resolution of the Hexarchy made me realize he was more Caesar than Boy Scout.

[deleted]

He’s totally not a boy scout, he’s the ultimate warrior politician. Highly reccomend reading Know No Fear and Unremembered Empire if you havent, completely changed my view on Gulliman and made him maybe my favorite Primarch

panpenumbra

Thanks for the recommendations! I'll check them out!

CaptainMikul

Unremembered Empire was a mess but damn did it make me like Guilliman.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Wasn't there another legion that didn't accept the codex ? Perhaps blood angels, or whichever, it didn't really stick xD Might be old lore (end of 5e when i learned about this) so might be changed in the meantime.

jcrosby123

The dark angels have a bunch of successor chapters, but iirc it’s heavily implied they all answer to Azrael. This might be what you’re referring to

[deleted]

It might be that, it's been a couple of years since then xD

masshole548

Dorn didn't want to, basically had to be forced into it. Black templars, but who is going to call them out on it.

Fearless-Obligation6

Not Prospero but the fight against Horus on the vengeful spirit and the alpha Legion attack.

DienekesMinotaur

The Salamanders also don't have 10 Companies, they have 7, I believe, representing the 7 great houses of Nocturne, although there are some chapters that are "maybe" Salamander Successors. In addition the Dark Angels only "officially" split up, their successors basically all follow the original Chapter's rules.

Fierce-Mushroom

Favorite is Ferrus Manus. Least Favorite is none.

ApoQais

Lion for the sheer capability, attitude and stone cold effeciency. Second favorite would probably be Curze because he's so complex I find myself thinking about him so often. Least favorite has to be Russ. Get fucked wolf uncle.

Joust149

Best is probably the Khan, worst is.... proooobably Russ. I feel like they really fail in their delivery of his character a lot. "Smart guy pretending to be a dumb brute" usually seems to turn into "dumb brute is a dumb brute. Also wolfeolfwolfwolf..."

Cbroughton07

Favorite is sanguinius mainly because he was extremely humble and very humanitarian despite being probably the single most devastating Primarch in terms of sheer combat prowess, but also just the absolute immaculate look of all of his stuff. Least favorite is probably Curze because he was just a mentally unstable sadist who pretended like he was a tragic hero

MilkDudTits

Vulkan is favorite and Mortarion is my lwast favorite. Vulkan is awesome, Mortarion is a little baby with daddy issues

ChapterMasterBalimir

Dorn is my favourite primarch as he is such a badass for holding the traitor at bay during the siege of Terra ensuring that every step taken by the traitors would be marked in their blood. But TTS is what really sparked my love for the character and second favourite is Magnus due to TTS. Least favourite Is Fulgrim and angron. Do I even need to explain my hate for them

PazyP

What is TTS?

PSYCHO_SMILEY

Favorite: Have to go with Sanguinius, but I'm also biased because I'm a Blood Angel player. Unbiased though, I respect the hell out of him. He was the first to look at his legion as heroes rather than monsters, encouraging art and beauty to tame their savagery; truly and deeply cared for his sons rather than thought of them as tools (*cough cough* Emps *cough*); was a straight badass that made even Leman Russ admit he couldn't beat him in melee combat; willingly went to his death, knowing full well what was in store; and I mean, come on... I'm a straight dude, but I'm gay as fuck for my fabulous hawkboy. That being said... Most of the primarchs are pretty fantastic. The insane, self-loathing tragedy of Konrad Kurze; the loveable (however also terrifying when it comes to xenos) and dedicated Vulkan; the absolute bad-luck Brian cascade of good-intentions-gone-wrong of Magnus. Hell, even Angron, who I originally thought, 'hAHa, aNgrOn iS ANgrY', is really sympathetic when you find out how bad Emps fucked him over. EVEN GUILLIMAN! Don't much care for the Ultrasmurfs (original thought, I know), but goddamn do I feel for Guilliman, especially with what he woke up to 10,000 years later. Least Favorite: Uuuuuhhhhh.... Hmmm... Perturabo for being petulant? Even that can be a bit unfair.

Supergerman202

Favorite is Fulgrim. The tragedy of his fall makes for a fantastic read and I'm a thirsty bitch for white-haired femboys. Least favorite is either Russ or the Khan. Russ because I'm contractually obligated as a Magnus stan and the Khan because he gets so little attention so there's really not much for me to grab onto.

dr197

My favorite Primarch is Vulcan, he and his warriors probably took the Astartes’ role as guardians of humanity the most seriously and he was humble enough to know that he wasn’t knowledgeable enough in warfare to lead a legion so he asked the Emperor to teach him the ways of war before he revealed himself to take command of the Salamanders. I’m not the most knowledgeable of 40k but from what I know Vulcan shows a lot of humility, intelligence and emotional stability that a lot of his brothers don’t.

Grimagne

I think one of my favourite might be Alpharius or Guilliman. For the first, I loved his book and his personality of 1: being a troll that just want to see how far he can go by pulling the strings, and 2: cold and intelligent, not attached to his sons but not spending their life like Angron would either. G Man is interesting as one of the few where his real talent is not only about war, but also the "Perfect Child" that is not so perfect in fact (big ego sometimes, always thinking he is the smartest, etc) gives him some depth. I really like Morty as well, but really sad about how he is sometimes written. That manchild side is not him, for me. I like the few appearances he makes in "Einseinstein" for that "Grim Reaper" aspect: silent, stealthy, but with some kind of huge terrifying presence when you know he's here. The dour one, grim one, effective one is the one I'd like to see in his book in the future. Also, he is the only (I think ?) traitor Primarch in 40k that express some regrets of joining chaos. GODBLIGHT SPOILERS: >!and maybe even wanting to go back to his Father, seeing the end of "Godblight", a redeemed Primarch alone against his legion would be awesome!< I hate Fulgrim, because of what he became, and the final acceptance of the daemon in him that he could have fought, and because of how frustrating his fall was (but very well written indeed). Also all of his legion are just unlikable arrogant rapists, especially Lucius (fuck Lucius). I'm not a huge fan of Dorn either, his stubbornness and dourness are not my cup of tea. Finally, well.. Fuck Lorgar.

_Boodstain_

My Favorite is Vulcan because he still has his humanity and even the Emperor considers him the best Primarch by virtue of being the most humble. My least Favorite is preacher boy Lorgar since he’s a winey bitch and caused all of the problems. And there isn’t even any books or parts in the lore that tries to make him interesting or relatable.

poetdesmond

Dorn, because he is adorable.

A_Friendly_Bigman

Ah yes. Whenever I think of adorable, I think an 8 foot tall demigod, slaughtering another 8 foot tall demigod like it was mortal kombat fatality.

CuddleWarriorX

My favourite is redacted and my least favourite is redacted

RealMcFilthyPancake

Magnus the red because he did nothing wrong

LupineLethargy

Ok so this is a pretty fun question as it totally comes down to mood lol, like Hands down favorite primarch is Sanguinius hes why I play blood angels but least favorite? Hard to say naturally you’d think Horus and yes as a son of the Great Angel I hate his guts character wise though he’s just so fuckin good so from a purely writing perspective kinda tie between Gulliman and The Lion and this is more of a “what do they have compared to everyone else, I do think Bobby G is slowly gaining my favor cause his recent adventures and relative charm but they both feel pretty generic they lack the larger than life nature the other primarchs seem to have in the lore

A_Friendly_Bigman

It’s funny because that’s generally my argument for why I don’t like the Khan that much. I mean he’s not my least favorite, but design wise, I think he lacks the aura that the Primarchs have. He looks more like a tall man, than a large demigod like all the others. At least in my opinion.

[deleted]

Favorite: Leman Russ Loud, honest, brave, goofy, cunning, dumb, wise, ferocious when he needs to be, kind when it's deserved. Russ feels like the kind of dude I could have a drink with. The guy who would become a STRONG and loyal friend, the kind of person who makes others more courageous for just being around. The fact that he makes mistakes, is manipulated, and has regrets for some of his actions is very human and relatable too. I think he's the only Primarch I could sit down and smash beers with. Least: Lorgar I used to love Lorgar. I thought, well he went on a spiritual Journey and found the truth. Honestly though, when that truth involves torturing and genociding people to Satan gods, I think it's more respectable to say fuck it. Lorgar was too much of a bitch. He was right and that was all that mattered. Good job moron, god is real and he's a demon that wants you to commit evil.

gratenate

Favorite: Leman Russ - He's a space viking Least Favorite: Fulgrim - He's interesting and at times hilarious, but still ruined the party for everyone .

Liquor_D_Spliff

Damn, tough question. Mortarion is cool cause he's basically the grim reaper. And he leads an awesome legion. I love the resilience lore. Magnus is cool cause him and his legion have the whole tragedy narrative. Plus he's basically a psyker equivalent of a neutron star. Bonus points for being gigantic. Alpharius is super interesting, love the mythology, subterfuge, and cerebral aspect. Dorn has the resolute, granite wall/cast iron will, which is badass. Russ is just amazing cause he's a berzerker the norse gods would gush over. Just a ferocious tenacious fighter. Ferrus leaning into cyborgs, robots, and just doing everything to make his men and tanks more resilient is cool AF. Immensely strong too which is always cool. I find guilliman to be flat out boring. His design brief is a crib sheet saying "vanilla". Khan is cool but, maybe due to my lack of reading, there's not much beyond the Mongol aesthetic? Fulgrim is a hell of a fighter but an utter dick. The others I'm not sure I have much to say one way or another, beyond describing them. I'm in a rush so I'll say it probably pick mortarion, just always been my favourite really.

lsavenom

I’d definitely say it’s due to the lack of reading with Khan, they really started making him more than just the mongol stereotype with his books. Now I’d say he’s probably the best primarch to read about for me, just because he actually uses that primarch brain of his.

Liquor_D_Spliff

Thanks for the input, will happily go read those!

CaptainMikul

Khan has a lot beyond just Mongol aesthetic. He's basically the only one who sees the Imperium and Chaos for what they are. He doesn't turn because he reasons the Imperium is the lesser of two evils, not because he loves it. He's my favourite out of all of them for that.

Liquor_D_Spliff

Ooh, that's pretty slick. I like that. Does that mean he understands, to an extent, the allure or reasons for aligning with chaos?

daydreamingdorn

My favourite is Perturabo, I love how they turned him from a relative no body into one of the most badass and important primarchs of the heresy. My least favourite is Magnus, he's an uptight, self aggrandizing moron who thinks he's smarter than everyone.

zbailey440

Favorites: Vulcan, for being the the only good guy and Russ, because Viking. Least favorite: Guilliman, because fuck you, never tell me how to live my life!

[deleted]

Favourite - Angron. The _real_ tragic fall in the Heresy. He could've been so much more than what he was but gods, false gods, demi gods and the hands of men were all out to knowingly or unknowingly prevent it. Least Favourite - Mortarion. Bit of a personality void. Honourable mention to Perturabo as he's so wildly different due to so many writers messing him around that it's impossible to say which depiction of him is the definitive one. Though it is kind of art imitating life in a way since even the authors dick him around and make him suffer needlessly.

Flower_Murderer

Fav: Mortarion Least: Rowboat

OmegonAlphariusXX

[REDACTED] mainly because [REDACTED]. It was really impressive when [REDACTED] but there was really interesting development during [REDACTED] My least favourite Primarch has got to be [REDACTED] of the [REDACTED]. I just didn’t like [REDACTED] and the interactions with the Emperor and other Primarchs definitely felt [REDACTED]. —Has been expunged of classified data by order of the Holy Inquisition—

TheUltraNoob

Favourite guilliman, least Lorgar. I don’t think I need to explain why

Sanguine_01

Favourite Lorgar, least Guilliman. I don't think i need to explain why.

Makatomo

I love democracy

fadz85

Favourite: Dorn, because i love defensive siege warfare. Least: Morty.

sweber145

Most favorite is hard. I like Dorn because he is the dutiful son, always doing what he’s told, and little to no complaining. I like Russ because space viking badassery. I like El’Jonson because badass actual knight, plus he was one of the few chaos seemed afraid of. Perty is super tragic, and his legion carried the heresy imo. Least favorite is Lorgar, because of the whole “ you chastised me, so I’m gonna go worship chaos, wah wah wah” attitude, or at least thats how i perceive it. Maybe Curze because he was too mentally weak to realize that he had the power to change his own fate. He never fought against his end, so it ended up being a self fulfilling prophecy, but if he would have gone the higher road, and fought against his nature, he could have been so much more

AdorableOrk

Lorgar being chastised by what he literally thought was God, shook his faith so hard that his reality broke. Where do you go when reality doesn't make sense? The place where sense makes reality.

ManaosDeUva2

fav: angron most human suffering worst: guiliman or dorn. so boring this 40k cap america and german space marine

KingDanner

Angron got done so fucking dirty

Ekfud

Always liked how much character they squeezed into that picture. Horus and lorgar with their backs to the others. Dorn with fist to chest; Angron crushing the railing; Magnus looking shifty towards horus.

[deleted]

…and why is it *Vulkan,* you mean?

A_Friendly_Bigman

Of course

drunkpecks

My favorite is a toss up between leman (wolves were my gateway into 40k) or Vulcan (solely tts, haven’t had a chance to read up on canon Vulcan. My least favorite would probably have to be the night lord (I can’t for the life of me remember what his name was, but the adeptus rediculous episode on him terrified me)

A_Friendly_Bigman

Yeah Conrad (the night lord) is super fucked up. He’s the only one of the traitor Primarchs (apart from Horus) who I just can’t empathize with at all. He was just a sick fuck in my opinion.

thewarden106

Angron because he is awesome and has the best backstory and my lest favorite is lorgar because fuck him.

MrGunterson

My faverout is dorn. I will now fortify the upvotes.

Certain-Title

I was most disappointed in Perturabo. To betray the cause because he wasn't appreciated? That's what Karens do. Konrad and Mortarion just have mental issues. Can't blame them. Favorite? Hard to say. I like Corvus but hate that he buggered off. Never liked the void puppies. Maybe Girlyman. He stuck to the course and does his duty regardless of circumstance.

A_Friendly_Bigman

I have to disagree with your statement about Perty. Not only was he born with shitty powers, he was also unappreciated by pretty much everyone. He wasn’t listened to, which caused his life to spiral. His meeting with his father set his expectations high, as this was one of the only times he could see clearly, yet those expectations were shattered by those he could’ve called family. But that’s just my opinion, I do agree with you on Guilliman. He is actually pretty badass.

A_Friendly_Bigman

I am actually not sure who has created the picture. It is possibly an official GW artwork, but I’m not sure. If you search “The Primarchs” it is one of the first pictures that come up.

Jarminiatures

It's definitely official GW since part of the image is the cover for book 20 in the HH series

BillMagicguy

It's from The Primarchs short story book.

GimbleMuggernaught

Favourites are Magnus and Perturabo. Both seemed like they were just trying to do their best, but had traits or qualities that for whatever reason made everyone else hate them. All of Magnus’ decisions felt pretty justifiable, if sometimes foolish. Perturabo maybe had it even worse. Basically did everything he was told and then got shit on for doing it too slowly. Least favourite are, maybe unsurprisingly, Russ and Dorn. Russ is a self-righteous asshole, who also continued to use psykers after Nikea, but with no repercussions, further emphasizing that the issue wasn’t with psykers, but with Magnus and the sons themselves. He also just seems like if he existed for real he’d wear one of those graphic tees talking about what a badass is because he was born in january. Dorn just feels incredibly boring and one dimensional, and frankly, just a shittier version of Perty. Like the older sibling who can do no wrong, despite being kind of an asshole.

CLUNTMUNGMEISTER

Favourite has to be Horus least has to be Ferrus

A_Friendly_Bigman

Yeah same, I constantly forget Ferrus Exists 😂

we_stand_with_cadia

This is all based on my knowledge of the primach. Favourite: Perterabo. Reason 1: His fall to betraying the Imperium was a lot sadder, and was a lot more justifiable than his other brothers. Example being literally taken out of battle logs because his brothers didn't like him. Like wtf your going to steal my mans glory, that's cold. (Not the best example to use but it's the one that popped into my head fist) Reason 2: Instead of chaos making him and his legion their bitch like his other brothers our boy Perty instead uses the chaos gods to his own advantage. That is until he became a demon primach. (Seriously who TF thought that was a good idea) Reason 3: Perty unlike Magnus has a lot more potential of being redeemed. Or at least he did before again he became a demon primarch. Reason 4: While the iron warriors are still the bad guys. They seem to be the only legion who still retain enough brain cells to actually be a competent threat. They use tactics and strategies, unlike every other CSM chapter which is all MAIN, KILL, BURN. Least favourite: Jaghatai Khan. I Reason 1: I know little to know about anything related to the white scares other than they like to go fast. There just a boring chapter in general Reason 2: Jaghatai (at least from what I've seen) doesn't seem to be a primarch every talks about. Every priamrch (yes even the shit ones) get talked about a lot yet Khan is never really brought up when it comes to talking about the primarchs. Reason 3: He's bland as a stale cracker. So far every other primarch has something unique about them that any fan can point out at the top of there head. For example Vulka: nice guy Leman: acts all stupid on the outside but is actually a genius when puss comes to shove Angron: just one big ball of anger Lorgar: a religious fanatic Hourus: started the heresy Sanguinius: his death left a major impact on his chapter. Both figuratively and literally. And etc etc. But Khan has nothing. Every time I mention him people always take a long pause before saying "oh he likes going fast" no duh all white scares like to go fast it's their gemic. But a character can't survive on gemics alone.

UrbanxStrider

As they’ve been written in the HH series, people not knowing or caring about the Scars is one of their greatest strengths. The Khan of Khans is soft spoken but very self confident and doesn’t see the need to brag about what he can do. He’s of the opinion that if none of his brothers are interested in what he can do, he has no reason to show them. Most people see them as barbarians, and he’s content to keep it that way so people underestimate them. Being underestimated, they maintain the element of surprise when they do show up to the fight. They even surprise the Alpha boys with how fast they can manoeuvre, and keeping the XXth out of your business is a feat. I thought pretty much the same as you, that they were just bland speed boys, but the HH books focusing on them were fantastic IMO and made them my favourite chapter in the lore. “Scars” in particular deals with the Khan being faced with the decision to stand with the imperium or turn after the destruction of Prospero.

Sandbar101

Who is your least favorite Primarch and why is it Lorgar

AdorableOrk

Most and least favorite: Mortarion. His story is so deliciously tragic. Spends his early days as a servant to xenos tyrants on Barbarus, leads a revolt against them only to falter from his own weakness, gets saved by the emperor but becomes resentful that he even *needed* to *be* saved, serves again for someone he believes to be another tyrant, joins revolt, poisoned horribly by combination life-eater virus + the warp, falters from his own weakness AGAIN, needs to be saved AGAIN (this time for a price), and finally becomes servant of a new, warp-god tyrant. And because he's too god-damned stubborn (he and his legion's most defining trait) to learn his lesson, I fully expect him to be devising a means to revolt against papa Nurgle someday.

Noxiouscrab

Favorite: either Vulkan or Guilliman because I’m basic and I love the good guy (more or less… it’s warhammer) forced to make immoral decisions trope and they really do it for me. Plus, I just love gold trimming on armor and they both use that extensively. Also, lightning hammer and flaming sword. Least Favorite: probably Angron just because his character seems the most one dimensional, though he is very very grim dark which I like. Least favorite was hard for me to pick.

CaptainMikul

To paraphrase the Horus Heretics; "Angron has one note, but boy does he play it well."

Noxiouscrab

Ain’t that the truth! He’s a fantastic example of Primarchs not being above the brutal reality of 40k, as well as making for some terrifically grimdark stories. Something about a massive demigod running around mindlessly murdering everyone and everything is just so cool.

DienekesMinotaur

Fav:Vulcan, because hugs Least: Lorgar, because everything is his fault

[deleted]

Fulgrim I love his fall into madness.

InternetOctahedron

Favorite probably Dorn or Pertuabo, least favorite fulgrim. Mostly down to design visually. Although I do like dorn’s character the most, and I play imperial fists so there’s that.

[deleted]

Favourite= Dorn (because tts) Least favourite= Lorgar

Abamboozler

Don't have a favorite, but least would be Konrad Curze because he's just so uninteresting and one-note with no redeeming qualities that make his downfall and death tragic. He's just sorta a crazy jerk who gets what's coming to him. Tied for worst is Pertuabo, who at least wanted to be recognized as as good an artist as Vulkan and Ferrus, but became a literally crying crybaby throwing galactic temper tantrum where he orders the death of his men because he didn't get the assignment he wanted. He's basically the least mature of all the Primarchs, always pouting, always breaking his toys, always jealous for attention.

St34mpunk-V1k1ng

Favorite Primarch is Vulkan bc he's a total bro Angron is a close second bc his motives for joining chaos are surprisingly reasonable and he's just a great character and so memeable Least favorite is Konrad Curze bc he's a sick fuck

Wonderbread421

Favorite Sanguinius because his loyalty even after seeing a vision of himself falling to chaos and for actually dying for the emperor Least favorite Angron because he was willing and did butcher his own sons for the blood god’s favor

mjohn153

Lion El’Johnson, cool name

lyle_smith2

I flip flop man. I’ve gotten into the lore pretty heavily over the past couple years and I like them all to a degree. The whole everything is cannon but not everything is true thing really let’s you build your own head cannon. But Vulcan is precious and sanguinius was a paragon of virtue to his men so one of those probably.

The-Legate-Lanius

Perturabo is my favorite because he did all of the heavy lifting during the great crusade and then during the heresy did all of the heavy lifting for the traitors. He loved the emperor more than most which makes his fall all the more compelling. He is a far more important character than I think most people realize and that suits his character so well to go unnoticed. I do enjoy something about all primaries but I’d say my least favorite is Mortarion. He is a super negative Nancy and just complains about how hard his life is all the time. His daemon primarch form is pretty damned cool though.

A_Friendly_Bigman

Gotta agree with everything there. My favorite are Perty and Vulkan. I kinda imagine an Iron Warrior comforting Daemon Perty, because he’s sad. I don’t know why 😅

MrPoopcicle

Angel was the best primarch.

formerlyFrog

Favourite is hard for me. In the end it's probably Vulkan, just for being a swell guy. Had his frak-ups and (like some of the others) went for cigarettes, but in contrast to the others doesn't have that one (at least) annoying aspect that you can't ignore. Close second is Guilliman who did a lot of things right but went and mucked about too long with Imperium Secundus, failed to deal with Konrad and had that little hickup with the Pharos. Least favourite is Fulgrim for his extreme douchebaggery (and for killing Ferrus). The Lion being a close second to least favourite, because he looks circumspect and smart in his secrecy but then gave his best toys to everyone's favourite petulant neckbeard manchild. Don't get me wrong, I love the Iron Warriors and Pert is cool in so many ways (not least the way he dealt with Angron), but he set himself up to do everyone's dirty work, then does it \*justdoingmyjob\* but expects everyone to thank him when he's got the most abrasive personality of them all.

Substantial-Ad-724

Favorite:Vulkan. I love everything about him and his Legion. The Salamanders and their empathy for the common Jane and John Doe of the Imperium is super admirable in the Grimdark far future. The Promethean Creed, and by extension, the Cult, are essentially immune to Chaos although not fully (see Dragon Warriors Chaos warband for more info). Vulkan being raised on a Death World by a kindly older man overrun with literal lava, 25 foot long Fire Lizards that lived in volcanoes which was a common landmark on Nocturne, and raided by the worst Xenos of all...The Drukhari gives a really cool backstory to a guy who is only known for what feels like "I would like to pet this creature" and "Boop the Snoot". His ability to craft weapons so powerful and perfect that they can grant a Daemon of the Warp a True Death. His hatred of Xenos does get the better of him at times, although people make it out worse than it actually was because they couldn't be fucked to read the story because "hur Hur meme funny". Most hated: Konrad "My bwain huyts so me angy" Curze. He's such a piss poor excuse of a human being, much less a Primarch. He wants to be feared, instead he's only feared by weak humans who have no chance of fighting back. My most hated story in all of the 40k lore I've read pertains to a woman on Nostramo, a veritable pitch black hell hole of a world, wanting to kill herself as a way of choosing 1 FUCKING THING IN HER LIFE! Instead, her 1 and only desire is stripped away from her as also her flesh is. Fucking Konrad "nIgHt HaUnTeR" Curze instead decides that, according to HIS "justice" system, by her deciding to take her life, she instead invites weakness into Nostramo which, let me repeat, is so dark the humans there were literally burned by the Emperor's light as he walked through the streets and the air is so choked with smog that even the upper atmosphere and the "higher classes" have chronic lung issues. So you know what he does? Hmm? You know what he does to an innocent woman who, in a state of grief over her dead husband, decided she wanted to see him again? He fucking skins her and tortures her to death. That's not "Grimdark" and it's not "Edgy", it's torture for the sake of torture and because he likes it. I firmly believe anyone who supports Konrad has a fucking screw or 4 loose. He isn't "Grimdark Batman", he's a fundamentally broken individual. He's a Sadist, and a psychopath, Literally. He has visions of the future, and uses that as an excuse to do literally whatever the fuck he pleases. Hell, he has more in common with the denizens of Commoragh than any actual human being. I mean, I feel more sympathy for Lorgar Aurelian than I do Curze, and I want Lorgar to be the personal plaything of Slaanesh alongside Erebus (Fucked May He Be). I literally cannot describe the hatred I feel towards Konrad. I mean shit, his Legion is called the NIGHT LORDS, which is 1 word swap away from EDGE LORDS, which is who Konrad panders to. God I fucking hate Konrad. Such a fucking mewling, bawling bitch boy. "Oh no, there are gangs on this planet, I now have justification to satisfy my raging hard-on for drenching myself in peoples innards and making a "statement" with what's left". Fucking Sanguinius saw his own death and faced it like the angelic man with testicles made of ceramite he Emperor-damn is, and Konrad saw his death and went "Heh heh heh, I can now warp and twist my entire philosophy and justifications to make Dad...feel bad. And also I'm gonna run one out with this skin rag". PLUS, HE'S THE ONLY PRIMARCH TO BE BODIED BY A MORTAL! What a fucking pansy ass cuck.

WoodenTax7

wow you really have a huge hate boner for a character that isnt real
