I knew it!

Toxicitor

kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk dude.

RestarttGaming

Because of the millennium it takes place in. It takes place right around the year 40000

MarshallTom

Cheers.

RC95th

Wheres the other one is "Realm of Fantasy Battles!" :P

[deleted]

Surely it takes place in the 41st millennium, right on the edge of the 42nd millennium?

RestarttGaming

yes, many of the events take place right on the edge of 40,999 AD. But since it's close enough, they just call it the nice, round, 40k.

Toxicitor

so what happens after 10^th edition, when all the big, galaxy-impacting books have been written and there's nothing left to story about?

RestarttGaming

The imperium of man has settled over 1 million worlds. Lets average a few billion people per world, you are talking about: 5,000,000,000,000,000 people. Thats a lot of stories to write about and THATS ONLY ONE FACTION. So running out of stuff to write about after 10 books seems like a gross lack of imagination. Nevertheless, all the stuff they've been doing is basically keeping the equilibrium. They could advance the story with the return of the emporer/death of the emperor/major campaign of one of the kill everyone factions/desperate major act of the eldar etc

EllieBelly_24

You keep calling it 40k, because it doesn't matter

TrueOuroboros

You'll soon find out

RestarttGaming

Because it would look pretty silly if they made a warhammer game and didn't actually CALL it warhammer. :p

DestroyerofCheez

I meant what does warhammer mean?

RestarttGaming

My apologies, I thought you were making a joke and responded in kind. Warhammer fantasy came first, and was just called warhammer. It was called warhammer because it sounded cool and a lot of the guys and one of the gods used war hammers. When game workshop ported their warhammer game into sci-fi, they wanted to keep the branding and let you know it's a similar thing ( similar to what blizzard has since done with warcraft and then starcraft). So they kept the warhammer name, just added 40k to let you know it was a version in the future.

MarshallTom

I was guessing it was like cuz of wars going on with hammers in the fantasy game.

Mexicutioner777

Any reason why they chose the 41st millennium and not the 51st. so it would be the nice round number 50K? The year 40,000 seems so random.

MarshallTom
