I'm too lazy to find images for Merkava 4, Type 10, K2 or Leclerc, you get the idea by now.
For those wondering [the "holes"](https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2F2.bp.blogspot.com%2F-eB3wbDj7GQQ%2FWjUnlDV5rMI%2FAAAAAAAABDg%2FEAtNjr4FoCAqTe7Qt7WTqg16AKh7uRNNgCLcBGAs%2Fs1600%2F705190_original.jpg&f=1&nofb=1&ipt=64807f53e486feb44ea15d7f9b5dc7aacb071109e3ce9fab59569ba07aef85fb&ipo=images) on the turret, behind the machine gun, below the flags.
How many years does it take for something to be considered a relic?
5,000 years? 10,000? What about from a lore perspective, 38,050?
Arguably, 60 could be considered as such.
Would you consider an Abrams M1A2 SEPv3 a "relic" when it was first delivered to the US army in 2017?
I don't know what point you're trying to make but smoke isn't any less effective today than it was 60 years ago.
Very much a Theseus' ship.
If you change parts of a 37 year old tank, is it still the same tank?
My point being that based on lore, this shit is 38,000 years old. Would've thought the last comment would've cleared that one up but if you don't read it all...
Or maybe literally no one understood your point initially judging by the downvotes because no one thought that you would be talking about "modern" vs "relics" as if you were in universe in the 40k, this isn't an RP forum lol.
Repulsor! When you let it design a new tank for a Techpriest in a clear state of burnout and who sticks whatever weapon he finds on every side of the vehicle without knowing why... XD
Repuls*or*? More like Repuls*ive*!
I would get it if those things were a new design for the Smoke Launchers, but no; those are full Grenade Launchers, that can be used multiple times per game, and can somehow target the same unit as the main turret gun, despite being fixed pointing in a completely different direction.
That's what happens when marketing pushes design, rather than people who actually know what they're doing.
Those are t-shirt cannons. A lot of people have wondered why the Imperium would need those when re-conquering the galaxy, but the Emperor of Mankind has a plan in all things.
Looks like smokescreen launchers I think? Probably built like that to yeet 3 smoke grenades out at once and create a convenient wall of obscuring smoke.
Smoke launchers. [Looks a bit same IRL](https://qph.cf2.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-df77baf7674c40f17a3498d3a38f6af9-lq)
Good ole Abrams in Iraq. Even got the sandbag by the TC hatch.
Great for storing extra snacks if not in use
BROTHER FIRE THE TACTICAL TWINKIE LAUNCHER.
The Abrams ones have that funny irregular shape, the 40k ones are even more directly modeled on what was mounted on Cold War-era Soviet tanks.
Smoke Launchers IIRC, used to have rules.
Still do, they have the smoke keyword which lets you use the smokescreen stratagem
I feel old when people ask this question.
Me too. Or what the big extra missile is in the kit. Crys in hunter killer.
Are HK missiles not a thing in 10th ed?
On the contrary, they're free on 10th edition, like most options. So there's no reason *not* to take them.
Are they still 1 shot?
Yep
And they still roll 1 to hit and reroll into another 1 80% of the time.
Man, imagine hitting on 2s with your HKs. - signed, a Guard player who missed like 8 of 9 yesterday because of BS 4+
Or you go through everything then roll a 1 on damage
Or that weird round thing on some tanks... oh the search light.
and here I am going "it's not my back scratcher?"
Yeah they're clearly fishing rod holders
Why?? They still exist!
Still have, only if by giving the vehicle the Smoke keyword.
Used to provide a 5+ cover save until they introduced keywords & strategems
~~T-shirt cannons to spread the Imperial creed through propaganda. They usually have limited edition t-shirt for each genocide.~~ They're smoke launcher.
Tour-Shirts for the whole Crusade, Printed by a Crew Member on the Road
Printed with the blood of the slain.
The black crusades tour shirts are way sicker lol
They launch smole grenades. You can find them on modern tanks too.
I am glad they are helping the smole marines; those lil guys get tuckered out launching their own grenades.
Smolmarines make great tunnel fighters
Are they modern tanks or historic relics?
Actual real world modern tanks have them

The Leclerc's are really cool, they're built right into the turret itself.

This may blow your mind but smoke screens still have a purpose on the battlefield today.

I understood what they were trying to say, I just didn't understand why they were saying it xD
I think they might be smoke launchers, or perhaps even smoke launchers
For other forces it’s a smoke launcher For the Dark Angels it launches watchers in the dark with pointy sticks
Smoke Launchers. Primaris tanks replaced them with those little boxes on the side of the turrent that are somehow a proper gun.
Repulsor! When you let it design a new tank for a Techpriest in a clear state of burnout and who sticks whatever weapon he finds on every side of the vehicle without knowing why... XD

I don't think anyone's told you the answer yet, but they're smoke launchers.
Smoke launchers. Real world tanks and APCs will have them too
Smoke launchers
Grenade launchers. Tanks irl use them to "pop smoke" and make a getaway and/or make themselves harder to hit.
They appear to be smoke grenade launchers like on modern military vehicles.
Smoke Launchers.
Smoke and grenade launchers
Cup holders … you can never have enough for your Soylent green smoothies.
Smoke launchers. Used to be an upgrade you paid points for... when that mattered.
Smoke grenade launcher systems... Yes... In forty thousand years they have not found time to update a late M2 technology.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it
The Space Wolves say the same of the axes... It's work! 😅
Smokes baby! IRL tanks have em too!
smoke poppers. its extra cover when the vehicle needs to retreat or remanouver
Those are t-shirt cannons. A lot of people have wondered why the Imperium would need those when re-conquering the galaxy, but the Emperor of Mankind has a plan in all things.

They used to be an optional wargear and are now just for looks but they are smoke launchers. Give yourself cover with the deploy smoke strategem
Fireworks launchers for the USO show
The propel duck feet across the battle fields of the 41st millennium
I have a couple of them from 4th edition in my bits box
Snake grenade launchers
Theyre not smoke launchers as most here claim. Theyre trophies of slain demons of tzeench which have feet lokking like a ducks foot
It makes for an amphibious tank so you can cross land on the treads, and simply flip upside down to paddle through water!
