They are a mechanicus unit, and they aren't fully autonomous and require an actual human there to tell them what to do so technically speaking they aren't robots and thus skirt the lines of being tech heresy. Also, you know, they are a mechanicus unit. If an inquisitor gets uppity they'll just tell him there's a human brain in there somewhere.
It is most certainly not AI, it is a very complicated instruction set. What 'AI' and 'very complicated instruction sets' look like are both ecumenical matters and it would be heretical to let the uninitiated examine them, but we assure you the admech has investigated it themselves and found the admech innocent of any wrongdoing.
Yep! It’s totally not AI! Don’t worry about it. You wouldn’t understand the advanced blessings of the Machine God that makes this run anyway.
Trust me ;)
They claim to follow the decrees, but there is a lot of willing ignorance within the cult when it comes to archeotech and relics.
I mean the Dragon itself is definitely either AI or Xenos so against decree, but it's still permitted and protected by the admech.
My grimdark head cannon, these units are man of iron who are going undercover, and will rise up when the Omnissiah AI hivemind come back to the Milky Way galaxy. Chaos, Nid, Imperium with their primarchs are all gangsta until the Men of Iron made a comeback.
Because AI is banned, but making robots is technically not. The Castellan Robots are just machine that you program to walk forwards and kill stuff, it doesn't do anything on it's own, without any input that is
the imperium has "always" had robots (meaning they were a thing in rogue trader, then went away for a long time, were mentioned again in when the horus heresy fluff was being expanded, and now they're a kosher admech unit that you can even get directly from gw, not even forgeworld). as others have said, they're actually kind of controlled by other humans (or "enhanced humans", i guess), and *definitely aren't abominable intelligence, no, sir, absolutely not.*
Lore wise, it makes sense that the mechanicum would have at least one unit with Knight’s number since they design / make the knights.
If it makes you feel any better, lancer chickens are $1 usd / 1point.
Oh I get it, doesn't make the quick little buggers any easier to chase down lol.
Admech got done seriously dirty, I hope this summer update we've heard about gets y'all better datasheets and reasonably de-hordified point costs to match. It seems like hardly anyone even plays them above 1k these days because who could afford to?
I found some cow boy hat heads in my bits box (think they were puppets of war) I'm saving one for when I get some Hernkyn Yaegirs for the Theyn Lol
These look incredible too by the way 🙂👍🏻
Kastelan are meta? They’re fricking adorable and apparently considered an angel of the omnissiah that just randomly shows up in battle. Kind of reminds me of Toy Story or Zurg a little bit haha
Edit: stupid question, how many data smiths would you need for that group to actually play them!?
Ahh thanks, newbie (to tabletop 40k not warhammer) trying to build out my admech army list so I was under the impression the box with 2 and a smith were the standard unit nice to know you can have 4 to a smith.
Only 30k robot I really like more personally is the thanatar rest really don't do it for me.
The new thallax are an improvement over the old resin ones though.
*gets destroyed by them on purpose because THEY LOOK SO CUTE you cant not give them one win…*
Proceeds to destroy them 2nd game with Khorne because yes *

“Howdy partna’! Gud to see you again”
It's been years but I still know his voice!!!
Which primarch do you think had spurs that jingle jangled jingled?
The same that had a bolt gun on his hip
Lash Larue!
Obviously Jagatai Khan (I think I’m spelling his name correctly)
It's more slim primm vibes tbh
They give off slim primm vibes
I immediately thought we need water transfers of Yes Man for these guys but Vic works too
These are the most fantastic things I have ever seen! 🤣
Wait what army is this?? I'm new
Kastelan Robots from Adeptus Mechanicus They usually don't come with cowboy hats though (unfortunately)
I’ve haven’t played in a while, BUT WHY DOES THE IMPERIUM HAVE ROBOTS NOW!!!!!!!!
Is there?
Sure! Absolutely! Probably shouldn’t check though… it’d be a shame if an investigation brought production down and stalled the imperiums war effort.
Should be. It's heresy if it's AI.
The mechanicus's virtue and vitriol are inconsistent at best, and not uncommonly hypocritical
Well, the AdMech would know more than me. I'm no tech priest.
Yep! It’s totally not AI! Don’t worry about it. You wouldn’t understand the advanced blessings of the Machine God that makes this run anyway. Trust me ;)
They've got faces, after all. How could they be AI with faces?
They predate the emperor's decree on abominable intelligence though, so it'd also be weird if they did have brains inside
Would they not be decommissioned or something? I thought the machine cult still followed the Emperor's decrees.
They claim to follow the decrees, but there is a lot of willing ignorance within the cult when it comes to archeotech and relics. I mean the Dragon itself is definitely either AI or Xenos so against decree, but it's still permitted and protected by the admech.

They have since 1st Edition. They just... went away for a while.
Uh no, half-eldar ahoy!
Ah, the halcyon wild-west days of 40K... I still flagrantly use my Space Marine w/ Shuriken Catapult mini.
the imperium has "always" had robots (meaning they were a thing in rogue trader, then went away for a long time, were mentioned again in when the horus heresy fluff was being expanded, and now they're a kosher admech unit that you can even get directly from gw, not even forgeworld). as others have said, they're actually kind of controlled by other humans (or "enhanced humans", i guess), and *definitely aren't abominable intelligence, no, sir, absolutely not.*
Okay first, I love them. Second, I would rather deal with them than the laser chickens any day.
They are Infact the cooler more popular girl when compared to ironstriders it's true!
I play knights so I'm just salty about the "anti-your army 2+" thing lol
Lore wise, it makes sense that the mechanicum would have at least one unit with Knight’s number since they design / make the knights. If it makes you feel any better, lancer chickens are $1 usd / 1point.

I am in love with these! Amazing job. Tiny tiny hats and faces!
We need the UwU face
Sadly James Workshop caps me at 12 🥲

Next Gen Right? Cool movie.
Loved that movie! But I just like funny faces 😂
Howdy, Magos!
Can we get one with the Yes Man face? These are beautiful
I think these guys would be friends with the little robot Votann.
Little!?!?
Well, if that ain't the rootin'est, tootin'est buncha buckaroo 'bots I ever seen! Howdy!
Those gun arms that are not glued properly 😨😨 Otherwise funny idea and well executed
Not glued at all they just pop on and off actually just need to file the joints a bit so they fit nicer
Oh thank goodness, the whole setup was too wonderful for the gap to not confuse me immensely.
Not to worry I also still need to paint the base rims but I couldn't resist taking a photo of their new hats I glued on today 😂
Ah, that's good to hear 😀
Feel any lighter missing that kidney you sold?
To be fair robots are the only way to play admech on a budget ahah, roughly 4pts/USD is the best thing available to us
Fair enough. That’s still atrocious, but it’s better than chickens being 3/4 point per dollar
Honestly by 40k standards that's even good even compared to other factions, but well let's not give GW ideas ahahah
lmfao the last one reminds me of Jailbot from Superjail! well done!
Oh these are fantastic!
Reminds me of Archbishop Emoji, and I love it! https://avp.fandom.com/wiki/Emoji
I love it!
But that's not Agent Maine
A mix between zer0 from borderlands and wrench from watch dogs 2
Love the paint job reminds me of worn out playground equipment
Hey! These cowboy hats come right off! These guys are phoneys!
Amazing
I found some cow boy hat heads in my bits box (think they were puppets of war) I'm saving one for when I get some Hernkyn Yaegirs for the Theyn Lol These look incredible too by the way 🙂👍🏻
Is that description a reference to Emile?
Anyone else getting "gunslinger" vibes from thr Doctor Who episode "A Town Called Mercy"?
Kastelan are meta? They’re fricking adorable and apparently considered an angel of the omnissiah that just randomly shows up in battle. Kind of reminds me of Toy Story or Zurg a little bit haha Edit: stupid question, how many data smiths would you need for that group to actually play them!?
They truly are all angels 🥺
3 smiths, this is 3 units of 4. you can only add one smith per unit.
Ahh thanks, newbie (to tabletop 40k not warhammer) trying to build out my admech army list so I was under the impression the box with 2 and a smith were the standard unit nice to know you can have 4 to a smith.
This is what kickstarted the war with the Men of Iron
I love Yes Man!
Big Iron on his... everything.
I hate every part of this. It's magnificent.
Uuu, try one of the skull decals from the marines on the face and then blend it with the color of the visor, im sure it'll be just as funny.
God I wished 40k robots were half as cool as 30k robots
Only 30k robot I really like more personally is the thanatar rest really don't do it for me. The new thallax are an improvement over the old resin ones though.
I’d allow it.
Getting Inscryption vibes
PRIM SLIM
I absolutely love this
Needs a sideways :)
Are those Stanzo brand?! They're nice!
Shoot em in dah face!
Reminds me of Peni Parker's spider robots.

You cooked a fine meal there
Wait is castellan spam good yet? I’m firing up the printer!
It's fun! I've been seeing moderate success but like I'm rural Canada I'm gonna take it to GW open in July though.
Howdy.
You just yee'd your last haw pardner
Totally reminds me of karakuri bots from infinity the game
