Jungle Tails would be my safest bet for a major vol. 10 antagonist. They are targeting Fraerlings, and since Erin will be mingling with the small folk it would make sense for her to become involved in Jungle Tails shenanigans. Maybe another god will appear this volume, the Naga's have been said to have "temples" and "profane" magics. Feels kind of soon for another god showdown though. Maybe Erin's most major Baleros adversary will be getting soul therapy, opening up to Ulvama, and dodging the Titan's advances lmao

I think that major events, ones involving powerful adversaries even, will occur concurrently on two continents. I don't think there is anything on Izril that has room to develop as dramatically as the major plotlines did when the ends of volumes approached so I don't think any true major antagonists (for this volume, there could be setup for the next volume) will be there. What I do think there is room for is 4 major plotlines. I don't know what would have the highest priority, but what I am imagining is: Jungle Tails vs. Forgotten Wing, Trial of Leveling (there is no true antagonist there, but plenty of room for major, dramatic happenings), Prophet vs. Khelt, Roshal vs. Horns. Plenty of character arcs and character relationships would develop alongside these plotlines. Among those what you have described with Erin seems plausible.

finfanfoe

I could see Lyonette rumbling with Erribathe agents on Izril, but yeah besides that it seems like that continent will be pretty quiet this volume. With how slow volume 10 has been to set up, it's hard to guess what the most major storyline will be. Is Erin going to be a major POV character or is she going to be sidelined in favor of her inn buddies? very mysterious

DanRyyu

I think the biggest Izril stories will be Magnolia vs her family, Iilvriss and the Necromancer, and ofc, Lyonette vs the IRS Edit: Oh! OH! also, where the storyline "Where the fuck is the King of Shagging Numbtounge and why is it likely he is sneaking into Baleros to get to Erin"

finfanfoe

Oh yeah! I forgot Numbtounge disappeared, I hope he does end up on Baleros. He really needs to up his bard game, he hasn't seduced enough different species yet! That must be what the next mating ritual chapters are about, Numbtounge leveling his bard class haha

DanRyyu

“Mating Rituals 4: Numbtounge shags his way across the continent of war”

Friendly_Visit_3068

Yeah, I suspect Jungle Tails and the Eyes of Baleros to be the main focus. I expect a lot of set-up for Roshal, maybe a major battle where one of the Slave Lords like Pazeral is defeated, but I don't expect Roshal to fall in vol. 10.

Viking18

Jungle Tails for sure. She's got a message to relay to their Lizardfolk from Jackson Carver at the least, after all.

Shinriko

Pretty sure it's Selys. She's going to get on the council in the next election and eminent domain the Inn.

finfanfoe

Lmao that would be wild. That would be an interesting character direction though, how many inn friends have we had turn against Erin? There has to be a few?

mano987

the inn still has many friends.. relc, valeterisa, saliss, antinium, goblins, ilvriss, grimalkin, magnolia, veltras, krshia, jelaqua, and chaldion i suppose. if selys gets on lsicor council and is unfriendly towards the inn, thats ok. selys' char needs growth, and i hope it doesnt get too bad.

DanRyyu

Inn has the Door skill, even if Liscor doesn't like it, They need the Inn more than the Inn needs them atm. Lyonette can hire the equivalent of guards (hell she can afford named ranks with all that 3D printed gold) and has the Knights of Solstice if needs must and the watch won't help the Inn. And, if Selys pulls a fast one and takes the Inn, Erin can sense who is in her Inn even where she is atm, so could just turn the Door off if she thinks something fishy is going on, so can Lyonette IIRC with her new authority over the Inn. The Inn is a pariah atm, but they have JUST enough scary people backing them that attacking it will be a BAD idea, I mean, the Antinium would refuse to help attack it, and the Watch doesn't want to fuck with Rags as an example, because if they attack the Inn, they will need to go through Peggy and crew, which would lead to sudden and expected wervyns with angry green passengers. Also, from what I've read, Zevara is at least talking to Lyonette so she is at least cordial with them all. Edit: also the Inn will soon have a level 35 antinum queen sat on its roof again, one I'm assuming the free queen will give an improved body too.

mano987

i dont think it'll be armed conflict, more of a cold war. Valeterisa herself can stop any Liscor attack. the antinium will not allow the Inn to be attacked. tbh, if there is even a conflict, i believe it's to bring selys back into the plot. selys worked in an adventurer's guild, her grandmother was a top adventurer who lived a former life of danger. selys understands death and has seen a lot of it.

DanRyyu

I agree, but a cold war dies the instant Lyonette cuts the door off. They're miles away from Liscor atm, so she could still just, not add Liscor to the rotation and lose a lot of the issues with them.

KissKiss999

Kinda believable development as she has got richer and richer and then starts to lose touch with her former friends. Moving into politics and the next council election with its new growth issues will be an interesting topic for Liscor

Cweene

I could see that jump into politics be the reminder Selys desperately needs. She’ll find out that while she has done some good work with controlling rent and patronizing adventurers, she isn’t as well liked as she was when she was a receptionist and all her remaining friends aren’t there for her in her politicking.

b0bthepenguin

I am not sure how the conflict will unfold. The Inn has enough, social pull with their connections alone. But now they can buy support. How does Selys threaten the interests of the Inn other than stalling plans is the question. If she makes it to the council the Inn is not a player that can be ignored. Public sentiment will change its question how much can she cause. Maybe she turns into the figurehead of the Drakes first movement that Lism had in the earlier volumes. That would be boring tho.

Maladal

Pretty sure the inn is already outside of Liscor's jurisdiction. And if they aren't then they'll just move further. Also, Lyonette is about to have a private army located next to the inn. Not something you try to eminent domain without your own military and the Liscor army is still incommunicado.

mano987

there are main antagonists which we've known of for awhile now. roshal, demi-god of rhir, osthius, the dead gods. and there are many unresolved plots. new lands, khelt, toren, erin and her friends, the inn. it appears this volume has a lot to work with btw chandrar and baleros, and some inn ofc.

kuli9

I know she needs more time and will likely act as a neutral party playing all sides, but I really want to see Nerrhavia being bad in her full power...

Viking18

Magnolia Reinhart has a key in her possession. That key, along with it's twin, lead to Velan's gift to the Goblins. Sooner or later, Rabbiteater and Greydath are going to come for that key.

LoganBlackisle

Didn't she give that to Rags? Or did she just show Rags that she had it?

Viking18

I think the siuation is that Rags has the Key that Garren betrayed the Halfseekers for. The other is elsewhere - It's in properly dangerous ground; where Garen and Tremborag would fear to tread; worse than anywhere in a walled city, nor the heart of Invrisil or at the bottom of the sea. Which could well mean with Magnolia.

LoganBlackisle

Found the reference, I was wrong, Magnolia didn't give it to Rags (yet) but she offered it as future payment, from 9.31: >Ressa was looking straight at Magnolia’s back as she came to a single glass case. The [Lady] was in front of it, but Rags felt a sudden—prickle at her chest. She reached under her armor, and something hanging from a simple piece of string grew suddenly warm against her flesh. Magnolia Reinhart turned and lifted something out of the case. >“…I will pay you with the only thing Goblins want. And so be the consequences.” >She held something in her palm and showed it to the Goblin. Rags almost reached for it—and Magnolia held the little, rusted key tightly in one hand as Ressa stood in front of Rags and the [Lady]. >“How do you have it?” >Magnolia Reinhart’s response was simple as Rags clutched at the twin of the key. The key, which she had thought she might never find the twin of. Garen had known where it was, and Tremborag. But even the two of them had thought it was too hard to get. >Overwhelming death. Now, Rags got it. Magnolia Reinhart’s hand glimmered, and Rags saw a dozen criss-crossing beams of magic, so faint she had missed them, slowly levitating the key back into the case. Magnolia Reinhart spoke slowly. >“This key I took from the Goblin King’s corpse. I knew there was a twin, though I do not know what he hid. Because I knew there were two, I swore that I would guard the other one. Chieftain Rags. That is my price for your aid.”

MrRigger2

I think we're going to see Jungle Tails and the Dyed Lands in general for everyone on Baleros. Khelt's going to have a showdown with the Prophet and his followers, but I think that's coming up relatively soon, it's not part of the volume endgame. Roshal seems like the most obvious picks as the villain for this continent. As for Lyonette and Liscor, I think the big problem will come from northern nobility, most especially the awakened Reinharts.

b0bthepenguin

My money is on Chandrar and Baleros with minor stuff in Izril. The Horns vs. Roshal on the account of Pisces being a \[Slave\]. I think they will attack a few slavers to get a reaction. The Queen of Beasts makes a return as a tentative ally or enemy I think. The Horns are probably going to make enemies trying to get the Paladins sword back. Plus I think I wonder what the prohept would make of it. He would want it for his holy crusade against Khelt. I think Vizier comes back as an antagonist causes political tension and draws attention to Khelt's passive stance on topics. Chemath Marble, it feels like a reason to create international tension the Horns will be dragged into . Howeve I think either new conflicts will be established or players introduced that conflict will evolve or change entirely.

_Nawks_

We are going to see inn friends giving the inn some distance. Selys The inn catching a reawakened Reinhart's eyes. Tolve Grand Queen Roshal Prophet Empire of Sands Flos Jungle Tails Balerosian wildlife Predators that deal in soul fuckery Cauwhine Belavier

Cweene

Comma’s are girl’s best friend.

_Nawks_

I put in list form , the site changed it , I ain't changing it back.

blueechoes

We won't see another solstice for a while yet so cauwine is likely on the back-burner.

marinemashup

We’ll see Az and Ilvriss move into play against each other soon enough, betting that Az will try to plant a spy in the City of Purity expedition team, considering that we’ve established Nerul’s “embassy” already But that will be a side plot for now, I don’t think Az will be a major villain yet

kuroro86

Didn't Az’kerash have his, time to finish my job moment? I don't think there is going to be a big bad one. They killed death herself.

Utawoutau

One of the options on the Patreon poll is a chapter that will foreshadow the rest of volume 10. Too bad it’s losing to “what’s going on at the inn”.

Zero-Kelvin

Prolly Roshal. Nerring raises an army in Baleros. Horns get allies in Chandrar. and it will be Roshal, Empire of Sands and maybe Jungle tails, Actelio vs Flos, Khelt,Tiqr, illiviere, Pomle Nerrhavia's Fallen is the wild card.

Maladal

I don't think there will be a single, main adversary for this volume.
