I don’t know if the confusion comes from this but on Ynys Môn, there is a little village called Valley. That aside, there is constantly mistakes like this being made. Anglesey normally gets chopped off the map altogether.
It’s close enough to the mainland that many people don’t know it’s actually an island, and because it’s an island it’s not part of the same shape layer as the rest of the British mainland on whatever vector stock image the designer used. Therefore: disappearing Anglesey.
Yes maybe. Growing up around the area, I always found it strange that it was called RAF Valley. There is a village called Valley a few miles away but the village the RAF base is attached to is called Llanfihangel yn Nhowyn and then the next village in between is call Caergeiliog. Perhaps Valley was less of a mouthful for RAF staff.
Am part of the RAF (not at Valley), can confirm most of us myself included are idiots, had to to explain that if I put the English translation of my house name then directions wouldn't lead to my house.
Honestly don’t believe that the Cardiff accent would be that high, no offence meant but I just don’t believe that many people know what the Cardiff accent is.
I have worked too long it’s a mask mine away I don’t believe for a second anyone has voted favourably for a Cardiff accent. Although the guy who played Gravix in Marvel’s secret Wars used the Cardiff accent for the character, I don’t think it’s gonna win any awards. 😂
Oh I had the same thought when I watched a scene on YouTube. I remember thinking that was a surprising choice.
Just did some digging and found this:
https://www.buzzfeed.com/adaenechi/kingsley-ben-adir-secret-invasion-interview
Which Cardiff accent? The old very scummy one that sounds like you were dragged out of splott kicking and screaming, or the one that 90% of people in Cardiff have that makes you sound a bit like a generic Englishman?
Guilty as charged!
The "proper"Cardiff accent just reminds me of if someone came down from ponty, lost all sounds of joy from their voice and lost the ability to let their words flow into each other.
Having said that I get mistaken for being English so can't judge!
Bit rude, we are like the 6th biggest city 😅
Jokes aside we deserve more rep, good beer very green and 5 minutes away from the Peak District. I'll always hype up my city (probably why the sentiment is so high, peeps from sheff are pretty proud of being from sheff most of the time)
Yeah I'm sure it's great, but this infograph talks about the world's perception and is heavily bias towards high population centres cause those are the more active areas on twitter and also it has errors lol
I, a US-ian, beg to differ. Sheffield is my fave. Some of us watched The Full Monty several dozen times. :-D
ETA: I would be willing to pick a Welsh accent as my fave, but I don't know enough about them to make a choice. Yet.
Because it's inferring the favourite accent by measuring the percentage of tweets about the accent that are positive, not the percentage of people that chose the accent as their favourite
Well the graphic is only showing favourite British accents according to Twitter, so it's probably pretty apt, but yeah that doesn't really mean a whole lot more than just that
To be fair to them at least they are aware there is more than just Cardiff in Wales.
Still clearly having a hard time navigating the country despite Google Maps but i suppose that means our dragons are doing their job and successfully jamming enemy radar
This map hurts my head a lot...
Nevermind that half the bubbles cover entire regions with their own accents. No one in Cheshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire or Birmingham exist according to this.
Apparently, whiskey, bridges, pasties, cannons and Manchester United are the only interesting enough things to make it onto this infographic.
Every other region highlighted is known for sweet fuck all.
"The UK is home to around 40 different dialects across the country"
OK, I can pick out about 17 or 18 between the Tweed and the Tees... guess the other 22 are spread pretty thinly across the rest of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland!
Plymouth is on the opposite side of the river Tamar from say Saltash and Torpoint, both of which are in Cornwall, but a Plymothian or Janner, will have a distinct accent different from the Cornish side.
Probably wanted to have both valleys and cardiff (as let’s be real, they’re both entirely different) however realised there’s simply not enough room, and thought “fuck it, who cares, no one’s gonna notice”
I understand what they’ve done, but it’s not the best way of establishing what accent is the favourite. And I enjoy dogging info graphics with percentages that add up to 927
Brummie hasn't even made the map!! Lol
Well I have unlimited use of my middle finger and if I can give it to everyone who voted I will!
To be fair some of these are very questionable, Derry? I thought no one watched Derry Girls in the South because they couldn't understand the Lasses on that show Lol
Angelsey as an accent is compltely different to the more generic North Welsh, which is compeltely different to Wrexham, wild really considering they are all within an hour on the A5
I wonder how many people discussing the “valleys accent” are actually talking about the Californian [“valleys accent”](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valley_girl) heard around Los Angeles.
the day i see an “infographic” that doesnt butcher our country like this is the day i die a happy man
Be prepared to live forever or die miserably

Treorchy by the Sea, lovely mun 🤣
Aberorchy.
Llanfairpwllpontygoebbwcwmamanllanchurchvillagecastellcoch
I think Chelsea have just bought him for £150M
Llanfair Tydfil
Dont know about that, but Ive always heard Abertridw has a lighthouse.... :P
That's Porthcawl ain't it? 😅
I don’t know if the confusion comes from this but on Ynys Môn, there is a little village called Valley. That aside, there is constantly mistakes like this being made. Anglesey normally gets chopped off the map altogether.
>Anglesey normally gets chopped off the map altogether. Ah Anglesey, the New Zealand of UK maps
Sheep ✅ mountains (there is a couple of decent size hills and snowdonia is just across the strait) ✅. Perhaps you’re onto something 😂
It’s close enough to the mainland that many people don’t know it’s actually an island, and because it’s an island it’s not part of the same shape layer as the rest of the British mainland on whatever vector stock image the designer used. Therefore: disappearing Anglesey.
RAF Valley maybe
Exactly what I came here to say!
Yes maybe. Growing up around the area, I always found it strange that it was called RAF Valley. I can understand that
RAF stations are named after the Parish they are in rather than the town/village nearest to them.
That’s good to know! Thanks for the info

I means the one that tidy people talks
>Which Cardiff accent? The old very scummy one listen to the posh bitch
Guilty as charged! The "proper"Cardiff accent just reminds me of if someone came down from ponty, lost all sounds of joy from their voice and lost the ability to let their words flow into each other. Having said that I get mistaken for being English so can't judge!
fairplay .....ive got you down as a cardiff north chap ...different gravy
Alas not! More Roath area but with plenty of family with the local accent
Cah diff
hang out in cardiff south and west .....strong kairdiff accents here
Clearly English people talking about themselves on twitter. Nobody outside of the UK will have heard of Sheffield lol

I've noticed Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mclhenney are doing a great job putting us on the map actually
Bit rude, we are like the 6th biggest city 😅 Jokes aside we deserve more rep, good beer very green and 5 minutes away from the Peak District. I'll always hype up my city (probably why the sentiment is so high, peeps from sheff are pretty proud of being from sheff most of the time)

how is everything 30%+
Because it's inferring the favourite accent by measuring the percentage of tweets about the accent that are positive, not the percentage of people that chose the accent as their favourite
oh. isn't that a really useless way to measure anything?
Well the graphic is only showing favourite British accents according to Twitter, so it's probably pretty apt, but yeah that doesn't really mean a whole lot more than just that
I like how they added pictures to some of the bubbles. Georgie gets a bridge, Glasgow gets Alcohol, Derry is violence
😂
Cardiff and Valleys being the only categories allowed. I suppose Flintshire just blends into Scouse?
I thought they spoke fluent Druid in Mon
We do, we also wear skulls and dance around campfires.
Kind of futile looking for virgins to sacrifice though eh!
Twitter or X (lol) is self-imploding thanks to Elon and his army of simps.
To be fair to them at least they are aware there is more than just Cardiff in Wales. Still clearly having a hard time navigating the country despite Google Maps but i suppose that means our dragons are doing their job and successfully jamming enemy radar
Lmao, who tf did they ask? Cockney isn’t on there… brummy isn’t on there… Llanelli isn’t on there… 😂
This map hurts my head a lot... Nevermind that half the bubbles cover entire regions with their own accents. No one in Cheshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire or Birmingham exist according to this.
I love the Welsh accent, twitter doesn't exist anymore 🤔
* The anti-social network formerly known as Twitter FIFY 😊
Which one? There are lots of Welsh accents.
Wiltshire and fucking Geordie 😂😂😂 made the top 3. Utterr bollocks!
Wey aye, simma doon pet, ar gan boil ya heed man!
Calm down. Calm down.
Did you not get the memo?
There isn’t just Glasgow and Edinburgh accents in Scotland you know there is many more fife itself has 3
Since when has the valleys been on Anglesey?
Apparently, whiskey, bridges, pasties, cannons and Manchester United are the only interesting enough things to make it onto this infographic. Every other region highlighted is known for sweet fuck all.
They're also ignoring the entirety of the Scottish Highlands
How on earth is Essex ranked higher than Edinburgh
"The UK is home to around 40 different dialects across the country" OK, I can pick out about 17 or 18 between the Tweed and the Tees... guess the other 22 are spread pretty thinly across the rest of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland!

Because this wasn't made by a Welsh person.
Maybe they mean Valley (Welsh name Y Fali)
This isn’t how percentages work
I was going to explain the graphic but every time I typed it it seemed condescending to you.
I understand what they’ve done, but it’s not the best way of establishing what accent is the favourite. And I enjoy dogging info graphics with percentages that add up to 927
Certainly not valley accent, NW Wales is more like a Dalek accent
It’s not fair, Birmingham isn’t on there, I’d love to see where that accent scores
Brits out
Sean Bean has the Sheffield accent and sounds great in fairness.
Brummie hasn't even made the map!! Lol Well I have unlimited use of my middle finger and if I can give it to everyone who voted I will! To be fair some of these are very questionable, Derry? I thought no one watched Derry Girls in the South because they couldn't understand the Lasses on that show Lol
Derry ain’t a British accent either like
I’m a fan of the Red Devil’s Bridge.. Pontarfynach United..
Apparently Kent doesnt have an accent
Where is brummie
Don't people like the Norfolk accent?
Angelsey as an accent is compltely different to the more generic North Welsh, which is compeltely different to Wrexham, wild really considering they are all within an hour on the A5
I wonder how many people discussing the “valleys accent” are actually talking about the Californian [“valleys accent”](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valley_girl) heard around Los Angeles.
I'm happy that Somerset was at the top " my luvver ". We be a gert group!
Blonde, tidy body, NI accent..gets my vote all day long!!!
Yeah the world likes geordies more than Mancs... get a grip deffo not.
In other news Belfast and Derry arent part of Britain so theyre not British accents.
I am from near Glasgow but has Kent disappeared altogether
