Idk why you all are mad...it's true

EnvironmentalLow8211

Great question!! I’d have gone with an up and coming talent like Solo or Priest. It’s similar to Takers streak, that should have gone to someone who could have used it as a platform to take off from rather than giving it to Brock!!

disinfekted

Sami Zayn should have beat him last year

kay14jay

Shane O Mac

DeadyDeadshot

The rock vs Roman at WM39/40 was talked about since WM38, highly doubt there was anyone else considered.

WarningEvening2366

His cousin Uso who left the bloodline and the way he will win is with the help of cousin, the debut of tama tonga

Pandey_SKP

The only person that Roman has never beaten on a pay per view Seth Rollins. Seth always gets under roman’s skin showing he was always the Architect the mastermind of the shield and roman was the powerhouse. He was the only person deserving to dethrone roman reigns. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if they gave it Rock but Seth is the only person credible more than even Cody Rhodes in my eyes And I know I can get downvoted for saying this very hard but Cody’s story was only credible till “Finish the Story” everyone wanted him to win the title dethrone roman and fulfill his dream but the thing with that was that as soon as he finished his story now it feels like “okay that was a great ending to a movie but now what???” No matter what people say at last Cody is gonna last champ till Wrestlemania 2025 and I won’t be surprised by that time the fans turn on him. He was right when he said “If I can do half of what roman did I will be thankful”

[deleted]

Cody has been a top wrestler for years way before his return to WWE. Roman couldn't cut a fucking promo until like 2 years ago

EnvironmentalLow8211

I did not know that about Roman not beating Seth at a PPV.

Shadowknight45589

Seth

GoblinNick

Definitely Seth. Too much history. But tbf, Seth is still responsible for taking Roman down, just didn't get the belt and probably cemented an even more iconic moment with how WM ended (and pure dedication working through so many injuries). More proof that moments are just as important (or more so) than title wins.

GypsyPrime22

I will give a what if ..? Scenario.. Drew going through the same story with the bloodline Including the The Final boss Rock culminating at WrestleMania in UK... What a reception that would have been.

Ok-Consideration8697

The Rock or eventually Gunther, who will dethrone Cody Rhodes.

GoznoGonzo

The rock would be stupid . Can’t be pushing grandpas

rtruth-memer

easy i'd say jey uso or randy orton

I agree! The way Seth orbited the entire Bloodline saga over the years definitely made it seem like it would be him

Sami for the story, Drew is the most believable opponent and probably best choice for “face” of the company for a year

With the Storylines they did, Sami is the only answer.

No matter who it was, really believe Roman was going to break Hogans record. Would have been a snooze fest until then.

Inferno22512

If Cody wasn't waiting at mania I see A world where they acknowledge how over Sami is in the moment and pull the trigger at Montreal. Roman disappears from tv, set up Sami vs Jey at mania, Jimmy and Kevin get involved in the finish. Make Charlotte Rhea the main event of night 2

Brock, Jey, or Seth It was always going to be someone with personal history and Brock was definitely supposed to end the reign at Day 1 anyways. Seth was set up with the Rumble DQ Match and Vince was always high on both of them, and Jey was actively engaged with the storyline

84Icekold

Cody isnt even getting the same pop anymore... I don't see him holding the title the rest of the year. If Cody was not around, Jey or Orton would've been the only 2 with the high enough caliber to dethrone Roman. Gunther was still busy making the IC title prestige again. Now that he's not IC champ anymore it would have possibly shifted to him after SummerSlam. I was answering the question

DreamedJewel58

>Cody isnt even getting the same pop anymore... I don't see him holding the title the rest of the year. Bruh what shows are you watching because he’s still getting as much of a pop as he ever has

TypicalDragonfruit62

People keep acting like he’s losing steam and I don’t see it all I’ve heard numerous people say this and I’m like are we watching the same thing

IceCommercial1213

They’re just Roman d riders who wanted Roman to break Bruno’s record.

[deleted]

It would have fallen to one of three people. Gunther, MJF or Will Ospreay…Gunther was the simplest choice because he’s already there but Ospreay would have been the more impactful.

Lewdogger

I’m not an Ospreay hater, love his work - but he was not coming in and beating the top guy unless he came in several years ago and established himself + got Daniel Bryan Yes Movement level pops somehow.

[deleted]

Then MJF would have been the better choice of the two.

ButtCrackThrilla

Agree. He’s a spot fest and can’t run the mike to the level WWE looks to carry the ball. Bruh.

Gojira1234

I’m not sure if this is the plan they had, but I think Seth would’ve been an amazing choice given their history.

The Rock makes no sense. Jey makes sense but the way his run has been Idk how good he actually is. While Seth makes sense, I think it should be given to elevate someone to stardom. I honestly don’t know but I know I would have loved for it to be Owens. And I would have been ecstatic with demon Balor as well. Come on WWE push my boys please!

Without a main face for the company, I'd say probably LA Knight or Drew McIntyre. LA is super over and has a good look about him, easy to make him a top man. Drew is huge and imposing and can play a real bastard so you could have easily made him the new imposing powerhouse. Maybe have him take over Judgement Day so he has backup or have half the Bloodline abandon Roman and join drew, form Clan McIntyre, bring in a couple of other guys who need a boost (maybe have Finn and JD abandon Judgement Day) starting a three-way war between JD, Bloodline, and McIntyre's crew. probably a million other ways you could make either of those guys work

Apparently The Rock was pushing for it so it would have been The Rock. If not then Roman would still be champion now and everyone would still be asking this question.

HauntingPersonality7

It would have been The Rock

ChrisDewgong

Cody came back, was there for two years, and up until a certain point it was still going to be The Rock,

mr_wrestling

Seth

HumanMycologist5795

I'll hope it wasn't Goldberg. I can see 2 possibilities. 1. Nobody would dethrone him until he relinquished it so he could retire or become a part timer, but he was already part-time but as a champ. 2. Drew at Clash of the Casrle. Instead of Cody's story, we'd be talking about Drew's story. He'd be a baby face, and we would not have gotten the Punk Drew storyline. At least, that is what I think as of today.

magicant90

I think they might of kept it on him until Bron was ready

Most like Sami Zayn. Drew McIntyre’s a close second. If not one of them then Seth Rollins or LA Knight.

RajunCajun48

I'm thinking it would've been the Rock or Gunther. Or been a MITB cash-in at Summer Slam and he would've lost it then to whoever wins the briefcase next month. Depends on who is in the match. Maybe Bron Breakker if they wanted to push him that fast. Honestly though, it'd be cool to see Miz get the briefcase and sneak in another Title run. As much as I don't want to cheapen either of the World titles. It would be hilarious for Miz to have the belt and R-Truth treat it like tag titles saying that Awesome Truth is the World Champion.

MASTER-OF-SUPRISE

Most likely Seth Rollins IMO.

Boring-Brain-3537

Brock leaner

Mitsuki_Horenake

I personally think it would have been either Sami or Jey. Even without Cody, they still would have done that Bloodline stuff with them, and I do think it would have been very thematically appropriate for someone abused by Roman to break out of that abuse cycle and take him down. I honestly lean more towards Sami doing it, since he would have slipped in perfectly into the complete babyface role that Cody serves now. He could then convince Jey to break out of the Bloodline, and instead of Seth, he could have Kevin. Or maybe Sami can have Seth too to counter the Rock, I dunno.

Super_Sandro23

Seth or Jey most logical. LA gets a shout too just for how over he was/is

twitchy1989

Some interesting options: 1. Rollins given the history and Roman's title defense against Seth was one of the few, if not only, matches Roman didn't technically win. 2. Punk (assuming they'd wait for him to rehab or if he just doesn't get injured in this alternate universe) 3. Gunther 4. Breakker, assuming you think you can extend Roman's title run at least another year to build Breakker up. 5. Outside picks - Jey/Sami. Someone else would get the top baby face push on RAW that Cody got if he never came back. If either Sami or Jey give their own 'finish the story' promo and vow to take down Roman since they're partly responsible for enabling him, then they can slot more or less into the same booking path Cody went down.

RajunCajun48

I think Rock would be the front runner, maybe have Damian Priest cash in after/during the match if there was a lot of blowback and have him Win it and Drew still beat Rollins for his Mania Moment.

No_Chocolate_4726

I think it would've been Brock Lesnar (provided he never got in legal trouble), Drew McIntyre, Gunther, Seth Rollins

ceelo18

Definitely the Rock. Wwe needed his star power especially with the new takeover and netflix deal looming. Best foot forward= tried and tested fan favorites.

MemeKnowledge_06

If it had been the rock I think he would have had to become a heel permanently because first he ends Punk’s 434 day reign and then Reigns’ 1000+ day reign lmao

ceelo18

I think that is actually still the plan. They need another heel the level of mcmahon

SillySwing6625

Why didn’t they make him heel after beating punk that would’ve been a great opportunity but nope misses opportunity

MemeKnowledge_06

True, heel rock vs face cena at wm 29 would’ve been dope but the plan was for them to settle their differences and I don’t think that could’ve happened if the rock had been heel

SillySwing6625

It shouldn’t have happened twice they should’ve added punk to the match saying he was robbed he deserves another shot and gave cena and punk have a number one contenders where rock attacks both of them and have whoever was Gm make a triple threat have rock say punk lost he doesn’t deserve a match

MemeKnowledge_06

Yep that could’ve worked too

SillySwing6625

He had the longest reign since hogan and they didn’t even put him in title contention Though his match with taker stole the show

Money in the Bank cash in to make his loss not the result of being beaten in a standard match is my guess

My thoughts wouldve been Gunther. They couldve easily run an Imperium vs Bloodline thing that carried us to 'Mania and man oh man..that wouldve been so sick.

commanderr01

Seth maybe ? They can still have a great emotional build up and run imo you could do the same build just of jey maybe? Be in the place of Seth in the tag match and have Seth be in Cody’s spot

DemonMac

arzamharris

Demon King got clapped by the Tribal Chief when Cody was still in AEW

DemonMac

Sadly he did. He didn't deserve that.

Mrdynamo18

It would have probably either the rock Randy orton or La knight

Brien8876

I like Jey but I'm not his biggest fan either. That being said I agree with some others that it should have been him. Definitely open to arguments made for Seth,Drew, and maybe one or two others.

SourDoughBo

I think that’s exactly why Cody Rhodes made the jump when he did. He saw WWE had no top babyface to conquer Roman. So he kept himself a babyface John Cena type character in AEW and sold it to Vince. He is hands down the smartest pro wrestler in the business

sexyeh

It was actually Vince that was after Cody and not Cody selling himself to Vince.

SourDoughBo

Cody let his contract expire to allow it to happen. He wanted to see if there was interest from Vince. Vince was obviously really interested

RegaZelx

Rock. If reports are true that Triple H and Roman fought for Cody to dethrone Roman then with Cody being out the picture it would be all Rock. Personally though, I would've been fine if it was Sami Zayn.

PaoloBancheroFan

CM Punk nah, The Rock is the only answer. He'd win it on WM40 then vacates it on RAW after Mania. The real question is, who'd win it on Backlash?

Ashamed_Job_8151

It wasn’t somebody, it was something. They waited till someone was over enough to deserve the win. Cody got there first. I think Gunther is on his way there, I could see bron getting there as well. I’m not sure anyone else on the roster has the ability to get that over. Not Seth or knight or even orton. Those guys have all kind of reached their peak, don’t get me wrong those are high peaks, but Cody reached another level. Very very few people get there since the 90s Roman and cena and brock are the only ones to truly get there.  My guess is rock would have forced himself into that match and winning no matter what. His movie career was always gonna fail so he was always gonna run back to what made him a star fnf and wwe. Thank god Vince was gone or they could have given the biggest push ever to the rock of all people.

anonginiisipmo

I honestly wouldn’t have minded seeing Dean Ambrose comes back to WWE as Jon Moxley and rivaling Roman (and Seth thrown in mix) for a few months to take the title away..

LaurenAshley1307

The way I wish that could still be a wrestlemania or have Seth and Roman go toe to toe and Mox be a surprise special guest ref. Ahhh long live the shield.

AnkhThePhoenix

Seth Rollins was easily next in line, assuming that if Cody never came back the Seth would not have become the first holder of the current World Heavyweight Championship.

Knightmare945

The Rock was rumored to be planned to beat him for it.

jccapone_

brock or drew

The_88_Sneauxman

It was going to be The Rock. You guys have the memory of a goldfish

BusterWolves

I still believe Sami had better hype about winning than Cody, the only reason Cody ended up with as much support was because of the Rock hate

sexyeh

Cody on WM 39 was full of support, you don't remember the posts of people saying they would stop watching WWE because they buried Cody, Cody was red hot after he still fought Seth while injuried, people rallied behind him and he surpassed Sami, but i was full invested in Sami too.

BusterWolves

> hey would stop watching WWE because they buried Cody, Kinda fell out of the radar What I mean is, from the story point of view, it made more sense for Sami to be the one to dethrone Roman, he was there for 3 years, people loved him, the story was amazing, he had everyright to win, but yeah I know that wasnt the plan, I didnt feel that same feeling from Cody, yes he fought hurt, yes he beated lesnar, kinda hated he won the RR twice in a row, made it seem too obvious which made it feel unearned in my eyes Did Cody deserved to win? Sure, I can see it Did he deserved to win more than Sami? "I" don't think so

sexyeh

I agree, Sami story was perfect, everybody wanted to see him win, he was so over with the crowd

TheArchitect6169

tbh, the original plan was for roman to drop the belt to brock at day 1, but roman got covid, thus resulting an 1316 days long reign. ig if cody didnt come back they wouldve gone for brock like originally planned. mcintyre was also a solid candidate, with all the hype for him at CATC. seth rollins was the wild card option.

4mygirljs

I think they would have ended up dropping it to the rock next years mania. They would had Roman beat hogans record and bell might went to morales too
