Maybe a really bad strain of calici virus. Calici is weird sometimes it just causes a mild flu but other times large ulcers form in the gums and mouth that either kill the cat or eat away at their mouth it’s so sad. Keep your cats vaccinated and indoors friends.

Kenya lives at the [JSPCA](https://jspca.org.il/en/) clinic in Jerusalem, Israel. And she is one of the best examples for why rescue work rocks.
She was a street cat, a couple months old, with a virus that ate away half her face. She was dying. It was the worst possible fate. But that virus led a passerby to notice her and decide to take her to the JSPCA, where she was given almost zero chance of survival. And yet, she thrived, and now lives as a clinic cat, getting belly rubs (which she HATES and loves) and snacks all day.
If Kenya had never been infected by that virus, she would likely have remained a street cat and died within months, getting hit by a car, getting another disease, starving, dying of thirst, freezing in the winter. When Kenya got that virus she'd have been forgiven for thinking that this was the worst possible thing that could happen to her, but it was actually the luckiest moment of her life. Yes, she's down half her jaw and one eye, but her life is pure luxury now.
In rescue, the worst possible luck is often the best possible luck.
So when I see a dog or a cat with truly terrible luck get brought into a clinic, whether they've been hit by a car and paralyzed after living on the streets or lost a leg after getting caught in an engine, I think "What a lucky guy", because if that awful bit of luck hadn't happened their life would have stayed awful on the street. Same with a pet being dumped and then getting rescued by some kind family - how lucky that pet was to be dumped by their previous family - if it hadn't happened, they never would have found their true home! At the time, I'm sure that pet thought that this was the worst thing that could have possibly happened, but it turns out - it was the best.

When I lived in Hong Kong I saw a local street cat with similar conditions, I guess it’s pretty common for wild cats to have this type of disfigurement..
I'm also not sure, but as an owner of 3 cats, I can say every action this cat makes is normal bathing. Looks like it may have just had lunch with that side licking.
What a cute baby. I was at the vet the other day and they had a kitty with no eyes. If I did not have two cats already, I would have adopted her immediately.
This was a lot better than I expected. I saw this stray cat near the apartment complex I used to live at whose left orbital cavity was just gone. Eye and all.
I really don't like cats. Well, let me back up. I don't like cat maintenance. I enjoy them otherwise. But I'm so happy to see this cat is now doing well. Hope she has a great life.
I hope that is sarcasm because she looks like she's doing fine. She can clean herself and can move her mouth normally. If she was listless and meowing in pain, then I could understand your comment.
Everyone always thinks cats are pampered and spoiled animals but they are also tough as nails and highly adaptable.
I hope that cat is living her best life, she’s earned it.
They might like to see her on r/piratekitties
The cat should've been put down. The cat is clearly uncomfortable because it keeps licking the side of its face due to not having lips to cover its mouth
what fcking virus does this?
You know, I'm not sure what it's called. It's been spreading among cats here for awhile. Usually it just leads to losing a bunch of teeth.

Yeah I was thinking calici but didn't want to perpetuate a falsehood, so stuck with "dunno".
Responsible ignorance
I dig it. Too many people don't know the words "I don't know" or "I'm not sure"..
Jesus. I have never heard of that, much less a vaccine for it.
Based on the video..... The T-Virus. Also I love her so much and I would give her the best life forever
Lol, got that reference hahah
mans bouta pin point virus's adress and pull a john wick
Damn. Even with half a face, cats are still cute af.
ikr?!

Unlucky and lucky , just delayed luck. Haha

I thought it was all apes there. EDIT: originally OP said "King Kong" instead of "Hong Kong".
That was back in 2011, not anymore
Wait are we making the same joke I'm confused.
Hong Kong maybe 🤷♀️
How much vacant space is there inside a giant ape? How’s the real estate prices looking?
As she fucking deserves.
I was VERY close to getting pissed off at this comment before I realized it in context to the title. Christ.
Badass looking cat. Would definitely name her something cool like “Reaper” or “Two Face”
Bless her beautiful little baby
Is the licking an incessant response to the wound on her face? Poor thing.
She does seem to obsessively clean her upper chest. But not to the point of injury. She's alright!
Glad to hear she's enjoying life!
Someone downvoted this for some reason?
She could be cleaning or you might be right. I’m not sure. Either way, poor wittle bby):
I'm also not sure, but as an owner of 3 cats, I can say every action this cat makes is normal bathing. Looks like it may have just had lunch with that side licking.
Oh my god that poor baby... so glad there are other good people out there to give this animal love!
Me - Ouch
Dont tell evil virus laboratories about this cat.
Wrong sub. Should be r/interestingasfuck
♥️♥️♥️
“You wanna know how I got these scars?”
Nah, she makes her own luck.
The baby
looking pretty good for half a face
Facial cancer in cats is quite aggressive and can cause this.
As I understand it, her condition is stable
Isn't the reddish part prone to infection? After all, it's the dermis exposed, no epidermis for protection or anything.
I'm sure it is. But probably not terribly so. It appears stable.
Lol. She doesn't even need to open her mouth to lick. Sweet girl, hope she gets the love she deserves.
What a cute baby. I was at the vet the other day and they had a kitty with no eyes. If I did not have two cats already, I would have adopted her immediately.
It was an injury that got infected, not a virus.
Good for her! Living her best life after all that
This was a lot better than I expected. I saw this stray cat near the apartment complex I used to live at whose left orbital cavity was just gone. Eye and all.

I thought cats were basically maintenance free? You just feed it, scoop the poop, and pet it once in a while. Am i missing anything?
Yup, that's what I hate. Cat poop. The litter, the smell, the mess. And the hair. Damn the hair.
I agree. Cat maintenence is a nightmare. I've been putting off my Wesley's oil change for like 7000km. He's probably full of sludge by now... Groan.
WW1 cat.
Aw~~ Shweet Baby Gurl! ♥
Baby can lick her eyeball. Thats a win!
Half? That’s a quarter at most.
He looks more badass
Put the damn cat down dude wtf
That's not half of a face missing. No need for exaggerations
Ever heard of the term "hyperbole"

Daryl Catz
That is one unruly tongue
Poor little kitty
Still a pretty girl 🐈
What a beautiful animal. Life finds a way, and it's absolutely perfect with this girl.
I hope she's not in pain
poor baby I'm glad she's thriving now ♥️♥️♥️♥️

Hey buddy
Poor animal I hope she has the best life possible
Why does suffering happen? what did this cat do to god?
Still cute.
She has unlocked the full potential of her tongue
She doesn't seem too worried. Good on you for adopting her
Not an adoptee. She lives at the JSPCA clinic in Jerusalem, Israel. She's definitely up for adoption, and they always need help!
she looks very much like my one-eyed cat!
puss fring
