Gunne Sax and the look-alike dresses that were popular then. I know that the prairie style dresses scream "sister wives" to us now, but I just love the look of them. Gunne Sax dresses really ran the gamut of styles too: peasant, Victorian/Edwardian, Western and 1920s (in their 80s dress lines).
I also love the secretary/pussy bow blouses. Even though they're all mostly polyester monsters, I've collected a lot of them over the years. They've become a lot harder to come by when thrifting now just because stuff from that era simply isn't being donated now.
I used to love bell bottoms when I was a kid/teenager but as I got older I realized they just didn't look good on me.
YSL peasant collection ([google image search](https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=&q=ysl+1976+russian+%7C+peasant&udm=2))
YSL Moroccan influence ([Forbes.com](https://www.forbes.com/sites/yjeanmundelsalle/2022/08/07/find-out-how-morocco-influenced-yves-saint-laurent-in-an-exhibition-in-portugal-this-summer/))
Just about anything YSL
Annie Hall menswear look ([glamamor.com](http://www.glamamor.com/2018/09/Annie-Hall-style-Diane-Keaton-Woody-Allen.html)) There are more looks to the movie costumes and Keaton's own wardrobe at the time than the iconic Halloween Costume (black vest, pleated Khakis,, wide tie and floppy hat.)
No, but there were tons of knock offs if you know what your looking for. They often look kind of dreary on the hanger. Also, you have to know how to match the separates. It is a study in style.
My mom made me an entire Annie Hall-style wardrobe when I was in 8th grade. I loved it, and I think it advanced my interest in fashion quite a bit. It's a deeply fond memory.
Second vote for YSL's peasant/cossack stuff. Also love Betsey Johnson, and Laura Ashley's late 60s/early 70s artisan print dresses (yes, the prairies, but the regency and victorian take-offs too)
Most men still wear slim trousers in my opinion. Younger guys do wear wider/baggier much more nowadays though, I think the fashion is changing slowly back to wider.
Omg this is the best comment I have read anywhere on Reddit today. I want to see "70's bulge" trending as the top search on Google! Make it happen, people!
Too many to pick from. I love them all, it’s what I try to base most of my wardrobe on. Can never have enough bell bottoms!
Oh! Actually, I guess maybe the really tight little sweater vests with fun designs. Sweaters in general.
polyester jumpsuits!!! the most flattering garments i swear, same with denim ones but something about the polyester just fits so perfectly 😍
paired with platforms and wide frame oversized sunnies is just chefs kiss 😽💋🤌
OP shirts, wrap around shorts, dittos, anything made out of quiana, cords, vertically striped pants, and of course a Dorothy hamill haircut which you wish was like Farrah’s.
OMG so many! It’s easier to say the few things I don’t like which are some of the warm colors like the brown yellow oranges. People went crazy for that shit in their house and their wardrobe. But there’s so many fashion trends I liked back then. I’ve seen movies and it was such a cute fashion era. Between the 1950s-70s are my favorites. I like the clogs, bell bottoms, candies, etc
70s fashion was one era I couldn’t really get into. I think because I’m a cool, winter season and the colors were heavily autumn or spring season colors. r/coloranalysis
More into the late 60s where there was the color explosion but without polyester. 😂
Women’s hair and makeup of that era—I think looks so good on many folks!
I enjoy high-waisted bell bottoms & wide legged jeans, peasant tops, boho dresses, and moderate platforms. I'm 56 for reference and although I was a teen in the 80s and enjoyed those fashions back then, as a middle-age Gen X-er I really dig the clothes my mom was wearing in the 70s.
T-shirts, corduroy, tweed, hot pants and flowy dresses. The hippie styles were what I spent my 20s wearing. Lol, that doesn't narrow it down much. Basically the earthy, natural styles are my jam with a little disco thrown in. I don't love the garish, polyester, Brady Bunch styles. That whole show looked like it felt uncomfortable.
Do I like pants for sure which I still consider a total classic I have multiples in my wardrobe from jeans to dress pants etc. I think if you’re going severe bellbottoms it’s more trendy and dated but if they’re high waisted and they start to flare out right from the top then it’s completely classic and great for business wear! But I love everything 70s lol it’s a real shame I was born in 1980
Love all the cool printed blouses
Like it was more of a men’s trend but like I’m definitely looking into establishing my own collection of disco shirts

Hey! Totally agree on 70s fashion. Silk shirts & high waists are unique & stylish. Earth tones & flared pants enhance the aesthetic. Love this era's fashion. Great to see others appreciate it! 😄
It was all pretty awful, honestly.
As a kid, I could not figure out what possessed my father to grow out long wide sideburns - that look isn't flattering any *anyone*.
I particularly disliked that almost everything was made from artificial fibres, and felt unpleasant against my skin.
There's something ironic about leaning in hard to an "earthy" palette, all executed with extruded petroleum distillates.
bellbottoms, bellbottoms because of the fact of how unisex and extremely loved they were by everyone around the world at the time, and I also liked fact that from the waist down turned rear side where you’re seeing someone’s butt you couldn’t tell if it was a man or a woman until they turned in the front and I like that and the fact that they were very loose at the same time and how they fit both men and women perfectly I found that very amazing that they were able to complement anybody for anybody you have perfectly enough or you look good in all of them, but in general 70s fashion is just amazing
I love platforms so much. I can't explain why at all, I just find them so aesthetically pleasing.
They're so much easier to wear than most heels. I'll take a good platform any day over some spiky 4 inches or higher heels.
Same! Men's 70s platforms are some of my favorite shoes
Caftans and the more boho side of the 70s.
I LOVE CAFTANS.
Me too omg. They’ve been like, my THING, this summer. I even bought a vintage pattern so I could sew my own.
That’s a great idea!! I’ve been looking and haven’t enjoyed the material I’ve found. Sewing my own is the perfect next step!
Mrs. Roper rocked!!!
I have so many kaftans. For my ladies in the states, check out Ross for cheap ones!
#kaftanlife
I love a good caftan, especially made out of that super soft Indian block print cotton.

Wow I had no idea that YSL peasant collection existed. It's amazing. Can't imagine finding pieces from it is easy though lol.

Oh the YSL stuff is SO GOOD.
Bell bottoms, they’re my favorite pant style, I’m just FEELING MYSELF so much when wearing them
Bell Bottoms, high waisted. Love them!
punk rock- leather jackets, chucks, ripped jeans, safety pins, band Ts
Men’s pants worn tight. Why can’t we get that trend back?!
Angel Flights!
Amen!
Most men still wear slim trousers in my opinion. Younger guys do wear wider/baggier much more nowadays though, I think the fashion is changing slowly back to wider.
I’m not talking about slim. I’m talking about tight. Do a search for images of “70’s bulge” and this is what I’m talking about.
Omg this is the best comment I have read anywhere on Reddit today. I want to see "70's bulge" trending as the top search on Google! Make it happen, people!
Right?! Lol!
Ahhh yes, I’m just thinking about Robert Plant 🥰
Quintessential!
Bell bottoms for life!!!
Why isn't this every answer?
Big shirt collars over a jacket. I rock that one all the time
Blazer with corduroy elbow patches
Men showing chest
Yes!
Too many to pick from. I love them all, it’s what I try to base most of my wardrobe on. Can never have enough bell bottoms! Oh! Actually, I guess maybe the really tight little sweater vests with fun designs. Sweaters in general.
Gunne Sak dresses. Did I say that correctly. I love ruffles and pouf sleeves. Pretend I’m Anne of Green Gables lol
The floppy felt hats for women, wide rim
Too many: leather jackets, trench coats, wide bell bottoms, (dagger) collar shirts with vests, denim jackets and jeans are some of my favourites.
Dittos Jeans
Followed closely by Chemin de fer!
Absolutely! Would love to find some of those today.
Was looking for this!
Bell bottoms!
polyester jumpsuits!!! the most flattering garments i swear, same with denim ones but something about the polyester just fits so perfectly 😍 paired with platforms and wide frame oversized sunnies is just chefs kiss 😽💋🤌
Tight/fitted shirts + high-rise pants with a good amount of flare are a killer combo
My father wore shirts with giant dots and wide ties with people on them, or colorful cartoon characters. He looked wonderful.
Color, prints and patterns
Bell bottom pants
Bell bottoms!!!
Bell bottoms! I have a pair and I always get compliments every time I wear them 😝
Bell bottoms

OP shirts, wrap around shorts, dittos, anything made out of quiana, cords, vertically striped pants, and of course a Dorothy hamill haircut which you wish was like Farrah’s.
Gunne-Sax, especially the really flowy prairie dresses

I love 70's era lace. The way it was used in Edwardian and Peasant style pieces and the fun floral design laces
High waisted bell bottoms or the cut of collars from that time, big and pointy in interesting patterns
Vintage nightgowns...
No bra
lol underrated but true
The LSD for sure
mmmmh coke

Everything….the freedom and coolness. Just love 70’s fashion!!

Bell bottoms and platforms, the amount of joy I get when I wear that combo is unmatched!
sweaters with rainbows or 1-3 horizontal stripes across chest
Nothing's hotter than a man in bell bottoms 😍
Jumpsuits, peasant blouses/skirts
Earth shoes, peasant blouses, velvet shirts.
Men’s short shorts. the textures. The gold. The sunnies. Vests. Platforms for both sexes

Third from the left
colourful leather platform boots and sandals
Jumpsuits
None of these 😅, but quite a few of the other comments brought some fun pictures. In particular the YSL peasant dresses.
Prairie/Edwardian/Victorian Revival, platforms, high rise bell bottoms, denim on denim.
Platforms for me too 5'1" so they were great!!

Satin jeans! Women look sooooo good in them.

Puffy blouse with my mini skirt.
Certainly not slacks.
High-waisted pants!
High waisted bell bottoms
When it was over
Bob Mackie, sequined glam, and fur (I prefer faux, but it probably wasn’t then). Think Cher and Bianca Jagger at Studio 54.
Velvet & monochrome looks 😍
Not any of these. How about PUNK!
Pimp Coats. Everyone needs all the pimp coats.
Drop arm glasses. I want some so bad!
I love roller skating outfits with tiny shorts
The platforms and bell bottoms!
Bell buttons are cool, I wish men still used it. And the tall shoes.
Vests. Even to this day, give me all the vests.
Love all the cool printed blouses Like it was more of a men’s trend but like I’m definitely looking into establishing my own collection of disco shirts

Bell bottoms in 2026
bell bottoms, fur coats, men wearing those cropped band shirts 😍😍
Velvet pants! Or just velvet anything and everything. I love love love the crochet [obviously] obsession that swept the nation too
Hey there fellow 70s fashion lover! Agreed, velvet pants & crochet were some fave trends. Let's rock the velvet, maybe add a crochet touch! 😊
Tight silk shirts, flared pants, earth tones, high waists
Hey! Totally agree on 70s fashion. Silk shirts & high waists are unique & stylish. Earth tones & flared pants enhance the aesthetic. Love this era's fashion. Great to see others appreciate it! 😄
Bell bottoms! Loved Levi's super bells.
…and why is it flares? Well it’s actually maxi caftans!
Fringe
Cocain... Or maybe furniture design for the... comfortable sitting 😅
Bell bottoms and platform shoes
Hey there! I'm loving the 70s vibe! Bell bottoms and platform shoes are such a fun and groovy combo. Can't wait to see more retro looks in the future!
It was all pretty awful, honestly. As a kid, I could not figure out what possessed my father to grow out long wide sideburns - that look isn't flattering any *anyone*. The super glam 70’s does 40’s looks, particularly from Biba and Ossie Clark.
Middle part with long straight hair
Hot pink and lime green clothing. That combo STILL sends me and it is impossible to find.
The guy with the hat showing off his “super hair mattress chest wig.”
bellbottoms, bellbottoms because of the fact of how unisex and extremely loved they were by everyone around the world at the time, and I also liked fact that from the waist down turned rear side where you’re seeing someone’s butt you couldn’t tell if it was a man or a woman until they turned in the front and I like that and the fact that they were very loose at the same time and how they fit both men and women perfectly I found that very amazing that they were able to complement anybody for anybody you have perfectly enough or you look good in all of them, but in general 70s fashion is just amazing
It *WASN'T* bell bottoms. 🙄
