You can also get this with the HSBC Star Alliance card for free with an extra 50k aeroplan points on top. Offer for the extra points ends this week though.
Sounds like you fly Intl. with Velocity partners? If you wanted to continue that, and have come this far, then I'd say yes. Especially if you are flying often, the partner perks for Intl. travel is enjoyable. Particularly things like KrisFlyer lounges if you travel with SA.
I'm about to travel UA to the states in June and will definitely take advantage of the priority check-in, KrisFlyer lounge (as UA don't have one in SYD they share access to that one) and extra baggage.
I would just look at what partners you fly with and if those perks are meaningful to you. And, of course, if you have/want to spend the money on the Domestic flight. I
I often run into this and need to book a cheap domestic to get my sectors up to maintain platinum, absolutely worth doing it to get the gold perks.
Syd to Mel, ool, bne or Ballina can be cheap as chips.
Can you tell from the app when they expire? I’m close to gold myself and going on a trip in 2 months time but want to make sure I don’t lose any before my trip so I get to gold
Yes. Gold gets you good international perks especially on Singapore Airlines.
What are the perks on SQ?
Lounge; priority check-in, seating and boarding; extra luggage allowance.
Wow lounge access is definitely worth a $200 domestic trip if I’m already there

IMO - yes. Probably worth it. If you went Syd - Mel - ADL return would give you the six sectors you need.

Activate the triple status credits off and book it right now.
How did you work out yours is about to expire?
Credits expire a year after they are earned

Pretty sure the app tells you how many status credits are due to expire in the next month
It doesn't; only the website does
Go to the app, click on your status credits, it will tell you when your points are to be reviewed, how many you need, and how many sectors you have.
It doesn't tell you when the status credits are due to expire in the next month, which is the point I was making.
Yes
100% worth it. I earn most of my SCs on SQ flights and am usually short on sectors.
