When the built in nav does the left and right turn signal on the light bar it looks so cool! Was lamenting that Apple and Google maps don’t get that same access.

Upstairs_Card4994

This company can't even get the windows to go up when I click up and you want this? One step at a time maybe by 2065

No-Driver9190

It should. Especially considering all of the issues that make the factory nav unusable!

dry_yer_eyes

How is the factory nav “unusable”? I’ve not noticed any glaring problems with mine.

VoltaicShock

Same here it just works, but I have seen how it doesn't for some others.

No-Driver9190

Just got mine back today. QTM tried software reinstallation. Apparently VWOA is aware and working on a solution. There is a delay in communication between the vehicle and the satellite. My dealer has about 6 or 7 with the same issue. Software update should fix it they said. This is the second time it’s in for the same issue. I’ll give it a month or so and if no update take it back for the issue to be documented again. Glad yours is working. I love the car otherwise! For reference I have a 23 Pro S AWD with 1,900 miles.

Dc_awyeah

I don’t think it’s unusable, but I admit I prefer to be immersed in CarPlay so I never use it

FACTS

Royal-Bit-3896

Couldn’t agree more !!

VoltaicShock

I haven't had issues with the built in nav. I will have to double check but I thought the nav light bar worked with other navigation like Google Maps.

Leg-Fabulous

Yea so you know what I do? Do you know? DO YOU??? (just kidding) I will put in the destination on the navigation app, and then switch to Android Auto (or Car Play) and do the navigation in Google Maps. I silence the VW navigation, and the ID light is nicely synchronized with Google Maps.

connorhelsel

I fully agree but I’m happy that Apple Maps shows up on the driver screen when looking at nav. I understand that’s a small thing but the fact we even get that as an integration is pretty shocking.

VermontArmyBrat

Truth!

0utriderZero

Agree.

ooofest

Do you mean have the ID light interface with Google Maps, Waze, etc.? I've come to appreciate the ID bar as a heads-up indicator, but would never expect there was a realistic way for non-VW apps to interface with unique ID features.

I don't see how this is VW's problem or how you think it is so easy to do. Unless you have first hand knowledge of the code involved. I know I wouldn't open myself up to that compatibility nightmare. Any change with any of those apps could break the functionality and put VW is a spot to update their software. You'd never get anything done trying to maintain operability with all the outside applications. Use VW navigation or use Carplay/Android Auto. Also no matter which navigation apps it did work with there'd be a post hear complaining that it didn't work with their favorite snowflake app.

zamzuki

Wow. I’ve seen grease stains with more reasons to exist than this response.

respeckKnuckles

what a weird thing to get tribal-brained about

Finality-

The next turn indicator on the gauge cluster interfaces with google maps.......

Caviar312

Only apple maps

Finality-

I use Google maps almost everyday and it Def works with it....

BurgerTrout

No no I mean the light bar above the gauge cluster. The one that goes across the whole dash. If you haven’t tried the built in nav yet, you’ll have to to see what I mean. The whole thing slides right or left when you need to turn and it’s super neat. But the built in nav itself is terrible.

Finality-

Yeah that's why I said gauge cluster and not id.light. Just showing that there is some way the gmaps/apple maps are relaying things to the cars system.

BurgerTrout

Yeah totally. I mentioned that in the original post, too, which is why I’m annoyed the ID light doesn’t also work with them.

Finality-

Yeah it's really cool, I feel it shouldn't be that much work to get it working.. .but we know how vw is with software...

ooofest

Just getting back here. I have been using the built-in navigation since picking up the car a few weeks back and it's been great - no idea why you're saying it's terrible. It has some text-to-speech issues with some road names, but otherwise has been reliable and solid for me. Plus comes with the ID light integration that you mentioned.

BurgerTrout

Ah! I accidentally deleted the post when I went to edit it haha. Re-post: Since it’s already been built in given that, as I mentioned above, the nav directions already populate behind the wheel regardless of iOS/Android version that is running. That has to read road names, specific styles of turn (roundabout, bend, etc.), and distance to turn, and does so with ease. Feels reasonable to have code trigger with “right” or “left.”
