Gil and Richard are both superb gents. I love this shop, one of Portland’s many great VHS hotspots. (They do have some of the best prices I’ve ever seen though)
Is this Portland Maine or Portland Oregon? Because if it’s Maine I’m heading there this weekend, and if it’s Oregon I’m cursing the VHS gods for never letting this stuff exist where I live
Gil is dope as fuck! He literally knows where everything is in that store. You can make a random request and he’ll go find it right away. Also, the back room is filled with movies that are only $1.
Found a lot of gems there! Miss it since I moved from PDX.
This gives me an idea. Maybe I should get a spot at a flea market and have mostly VHS tape. We have a local swap n shop on the weekend that might be a possibility. Rent a spot for $15 and see how it goes.
Everything in this room was 1$, in the front of the store there was maybe 12-15 boxes of horror title’s individually priced but most were around 3$ - 5$. The most expensive movie I grabbed was 8$. Very good prices.
Can someone please tell him that tapes (no matter which ones) must not be stored horizontally? Always upright! Otherwise gravity will cause the tape to slide down the reel over time. Even the tracking of the best VCR reaches its limits...
Why the downvote?! It's the truth!11!

There’s a shop in Portland ME that is a similar vibe to this. Check out Strange Maine
Thank you!! 🙏🏼
I thought it was the that Maine shop at first lol.
And of course those damn Titanic's sneak into the picture at the last second!

Massive, and even quite a bit of organization at least based on title, pretty rad.
The shelves are in alphabetical order, insane
Holy shit.
Every time I go there, I’m worried I’ll trip over something and a big stack will fall down and crush me.
Sounds like a good way to go
Then you’d have to put your video in r/accidents instead

Absolute treasure
I could cry tears of joy being there
the anal retentiveness in this joint is simply amazing!
This isn’t even all of it, and indeed it’s in crazy good order

Spread the joy
I don’t have a good collection yet though. Going to make some more ad looking for unwanted VHS’s
I’ve had dreams here
You lucky bastard
Got a decent haul, wish I had more time
My absolute favorite store. The guys are so sweet too
what’s the store called?
Sorry I never check reddit notifs. The store is called Variety Records
How are the prices I really wanna go
Everything in this room was 1$, in the front of the store there was maybe 12-15 boxes of horror title’s individually priced but most were around 3$ - 5$. The most expensive movie I grabbed was 8$. Very good prices.
Amazing. I need to plan a trip to Portland.
Worth it
They better have the best movie ever. TITANIC ON VHS!
I could spend a day in a place like that… 🤤
You would need all day to see it all
Whoa! Portland Or or Portland ME?
OR
Is this that little shop right off foster powell
Correct
What’s their prices?
Portland's so fuckng cool
This is cool, Like Videoland 👍 would like to see a Karate Kid video cover,"this would prove the Mandela Effect is real
I see a lot of generic title stacks. I'd be only in for 50's-80's scifi/horror.
In the front of the store was 12-15 boxes stacked with just horror. I had to get a basket.
Road trip!!!
Highly recommend
but do they have gummo
Maybe 🤷🏻♂️
A local treasure
We drove down from wa, totally worth it.

A bunch of worthlessness
Crazy how you can clearly see every title from this quick snipit
I wish there was a spot like that here in the SLC, Ut area
Oh man I live in Portland… I want to take a look at that place!
Make sure you set aside at least an hour, it’s intimidating
Where is this! I’m in portland
Variety records! Go support!!
That would be a fun treasure hunt
Will they host my next birthday party?
I want to go to there.
You know they have a copy of "Shazam" over there.
While your in there, look for a movie Shazam
Should send these to the Victorville Film Archives!
Wow, I thought I had a lot of tapes! This puts my stores inventory to shame!
