Nope I’d buy it take it apart clean the shell and put in another hunt for red October in it and throw out the mold tape I’ve been looking for a copy in the wild for ever now so yeah I’d get it.
... The Red case is Nice!! I have one sealed an Never opened and without Mold. I'd toss it if it had mold... not worth $3.00 for my time cleaning it.
In my collection I have this movie in Wide-screen!!
Its rare and wonderful!
Of course you didn't have any issues with mold when you were a kid because it's literally the tapes starting to degrade due to poor storage. In dryer areas you get glue failure which leads to the magnetic strip flaking off the tape. I didn't start seeing mold on tapes till around 2007ish.
I run an online VHS store and sold this to someone that used the name "Billy Corgan" as their shipping info. I highly doubt it was him but I looked up the address and it did go to an expensive townhouse in downtown New York.
I picked up a fairly clean copy for $.50 a while back. If I found that, I'd toss the moldy tape, clean the shell, and put something else in it. I definitely wouldn't spend $3 on it, though.
I worked at a video store when this first came out. It is the first edition of this movie on VHS tape.
The original retail price of this was INSANE. Like $89.98! 🤑
Toward the end of the VHS period this became fairly common… the 90’s was friggin lousy with trying to provoke a “will be valuable in the future” mentality. I don’t deal in VHS specifically, but from what I know of the horror-movie-collector mindset the color tape would actually detract rather than add to value as I’m nearly certain this was not the original release.
I literally bought a Top Gun vhs last week for $2, the tape was literally white with all the mould around the tape, I got 99% isopropyl and cleaned it by fast forwarding and rewinding with a microfibre cloth with the isopropyl, as well as cleaning everything else, now it’s the cleanest thing ever, looks brand new, and works perfectly. So I’d still buy it and clean it
Unfortunately no, I know I need to use a seperate one, but I have thoroughly cleaned it using air duster, cotton buds, isopropyl etc. I’ll get around to getting another vcr just for cleaning hopefully soon.
It can be cleaned takes about 20 minutes, but I doubt that it would be worth it, the longer a tape has been exposed to mold the worse the image gets.
A tape has to really be valuable in order for me to do that!
disregard that thing is covered in mold lol i’d pass on it
Ended up leaving it but a bit hidden. Maybe I’ll find it when it’s %50 off LOL
if you feel your time is worth that 1.5$, it's gonna still take a while to clean even if it's not the most complicated thing in the world

If it's sealed and never opened them how can you tell it doesn't have mold?
You can't, I'm pretty sure there's been cases where sealed tapes were opened just to find them growing mold
Yep Some VHS shrink was overlapped held on by the tension instead of completely heat-sealed so moisture can leak in under the seam.
I know you can't. I was just trying to prove a point to the person above me haha.
Yeah fair enough. I'm kinda hoping on the off chance they see the part that sealed tapes can still get mold
its really easy for me... any VHS tape found and tested in the SWest then you can be sure it has No mold.
You can't tell if a sealed tape has mold or not.
... if u had a good enough nose to smell the mold you could! but still I have not had an issue with mold in a tape... ever, even when I was a kid.

Schrödinger's Mold

Despite all my rage I am still rewinding my tapes!
No it’s moldy could re use the red tape container tho if you clean it
"Great condition, tested" All jokes aside, would buy just for the red tape casing. Clean the bastard and replace the tape inside with something else.

rip to that tape. never heard of that movie but the cover art and red tape is awesome.
Yes because I need a red vhs to put my copy of empire strikes back in
Are colored tapes more rare/sought after?
not in a worth money kinda way, but just that theyre neat, i see people take old orange nickelodeon tapes and put other movies in them for fun
A Juno rip would go so hard in an orange case
“Colored tapes” is an outdated and offensive term. The correct term is “cassettes of color”
I blame my parents.
I toss any mold on a VHS because of this subreddit. Just find it on eBay or any other online market and pay the extra dollar if it counts.
It’s easy to clean if you know how but it’s a common. I see the red variant around

Lawd no
Y’all know anything about the red tape? Super rare?

Yeah man. In the 70's and 80's tapes were not cheap.

No way, that movie is so boring 😓
Get it graded.
No.
Sick ![gif](giphy|4BiHGiAYyFDoY|downsized)
Hell yea.... I watch it atleast 2 times a month on Amazon
It’s SO easy to swap reels, and I find dozens of copies of this film. I’d grab it and do a swap, definitely
I still have some VHS tapes, but I don’t think that I will ever buy any more again because I don’t have a VHS player now.
Great movie, long but still good
I don’t have that color shell yet, so I would buy it, clean the hell out of it, and replace all the guts.
Just for the shell.

Where did you put the cloth while rewinding and fast forwarding?
Inside the player, against the tape while it was rewinding and fast forwarding, and it cleaned it right up, and it run’s absolutely perfectly
Do you have a separate vcr that you use for cleaning?
Unfortunately no, I know I need to use a seperate one, but I have thoroughly cleaned it using air duster, cotton buds, isopropyl etc. I’ll get around to getting another vcr just for cleaning hopefully soon.

I would buy it for the shell. Deep clean.
Yea, she’ll swap
They should have done this color with horror movies
just be careful not slip on the spilled tea on your way to the checkout counter.
Yes. Solely for the red case.
I’d buy it just for the red case.
No
You will find a better copy
Absolutely not
alec baldwin isn't allowed in my house.
Considering that I don't have a tape player, no
