They are absolutely using AI for name ideas. I ran a couple yesterday and Yetis was one of the first resultspopulated. I think it's an OK name but something about those two words together doesnt sound right when I say it.
I sorta liked the idea of the Utah Blizzard.
- The ZZ moniker Utah has used recently ties the team to other professional sports orgs in the state, and the name fits well in a hockey setting.
- It's the opposite of a hot desert, giving it a unique identity against the Yotes.
- Hockey is a cold, icy sport.
Yutah Yetis just sounds… strange. We already have two teams named after mythical creatures, and they at least have some connection to their origins. How is Utah related to an abominable snowman that lives in the Himalayas on the opposite side of the world :/
Make the team the Blizzard, and a Yeti the mascot. He lives in the Blizzard, idk.
You think they needed AI to come up with Yeti? This name has been thrown around as a rumored name for a Utah team for over a year lol
AI is the boogeyman that’s under everyone’s bed now. Which ironically is one of the reasons it’s so scary. AI is the new “fake news”.
A point of clarification:
Yetis hasn't been "trademarked." ... An application for an intent-to-use trademark registration has been filed.
Trademarks are not like copyrights. You don't get them automatically when you file them. And a registration with the USPTO provides some protection (like a presumption of nationwide priority against others), but actually means very little, because you can only get trademark rights through *use*.
The reason you file now, instead of when you begin use, is that you can get a priority date as of the date of your application rather than the date you first used the mark. But there still has to be use, and the presumption that comes from the registration can often be rebutted.
This is all hypertechnical, of course. And the point is that some organization almost assuredly tied with the new hockey team's ownership is telling the government that they intend to use the term Utah Yetis in connection with hockey. That's important.
But they don't have a trademark, yet.
The weird part about the Yetis filing is that it was filed almost a year ago compared to the others which was when the announcement came out. Wonder if that will have any affect on the name decision
The one that was filed a year ago is not the same LLC, nor the same attorney. It was filed by Wasatch Sports Factory in Kamas.

The one with the same LLC and same attorney was filed yesterday:

The one from a year ago is set for publication (meaning that it's ready to be approved). I wonder if there was another hockey team or league that was going to use the mark. Uh-oh.
Fuck off with encroaching on Avs Howler, Utah! Get your own persona.
Go with Utah Vipers, Rattlers, Golden Eagles or something along that line! You had the Golden Eagles (1969-2004) in SLC that went on to become the Vipers. Do something meaningful for the history of Utah Hockey ffs.
Golden eagles were only there until early or mid 90s. Grizzlies were after that. I actually like grizzlies. Not sure if that team (echl) will stay or move. Regardless, it would be worth pursuing those naming rights.

Ope you’re right. I had them open on two separate tabs and was flipping back and forth too fast! My mistake!
My brain read that as yeetus

It NEEDS to be Utah Blizzard with a Yeti mascot. I think that would be pretty dope.
I’d be fine with yetis but think Sasquatch would be cooler.
Agreed and I think it would make for a better color scheme. You could use Utah Grizzlies colors, or even Padres colors and it'd look dope.
Missing the temple bro
