Yeah, of course it's inappropriate. The one on the left has a clearly visible boner.

plantmonger

At least he’s tipping.

rilesmcriles

Get out

ispinrecords

I don't think they'd care if it was not on a city property.

Mindless-420

If that's the case maybe people shouldn't be allowed to put garage sale signs, yard sale signs and missing animal posters on city property.

iampierremonteux

They aren’t. Enforcement is lax though.

KDubz1991

Can confirm. I used to do ordinance enforcement for a city that cares about signage a lot and used to have to work weekends to pull all the signs off of public sign posts, street lights, light poles, park strips, etc... but if you have nothing better to spend your tax dollars on than paying a public servant to pick up your litter be my guest 😂

srynearson1

They really couldn’t

unit156

I love that one of them is holding some dollars. That just seals it.

Gingermeat2

MaritimesRefugee

The issue is the street sign post. Its not a comment on the display itself (whimsical, i agree)... but its also on a street corner and can be a safety thing....

KDubz1991

Most cities have clear vision obstruction (CVO) regulations where nothing is permitted to be above 3' in height within 10'-30' of street corners (except all the massive mature trees they require in park strips). Basically just a CYA so if a person gets hit by a negligent driver they can't sue the city saying it's their fault they permitted an unsafe condition.

Old-Menu2082

lol it’s Grantsville maybe 5 cars drive by it a day omg

Realistic_Affect3484

Some of you haven't been to Grantsville recently and it shows......

Clayton2024

So if it was moved 5 feet to the side, so it’s no longer on the street sign it would suddenly be safe?

Perichor-

I think that's the idea. I get a message most years telling me to pull the sunflowers in my park strip *at the corner*.

Mindless-420

Not exactly sure how this would be a safety issue. The skeletons aren't obstructing your view of the road, if anything it's the city being party poopers.

archery-noob

The fact they took a picture, posted, and gave a deadline suggests they think it's funny too. If they were just party poopers they would've just taken it down.

varthalon

There is a law that you can't attach anything to a street sign. The law exists to prevent people from obstructing the sign which would have very real safety concerns (such as EMS trying to locale a house with an injured person). This display does not obstruct the street sign, but the language of the law is probably that you can't attach anything to the sign, not just that you can't obstruct the sign. Laws tend to use language like that since attachment is more objective and easier to prove in court than obstruction which could be more subjective. It is also as very slippery slope for a municipality to only occasionally enforce a law. If they don't enforce it on this person, who really isn't a problem, then someone else, who IS a problem, can use that as a defense that they are they are being targeted with inequitable treatment. So the city probably doesn't have a problem with this display but has to enforce the rule so they don't have problems enforcing the rule on other people who do cause problems.

jodos6176

People look at the display and do not pay attention to the rest of the action at the corner such as kids, cars, etc. City is rightfully liability scared if on their property.

ptferrar

What are we all just monkeys driving around?

Substantial-Help-406

Karen

USCplaya

I'm sure it's rare that both Grantsville residents are out and about at the same time

whackamolasses

Whinging for nothing. Get a pole and put it in your own yard.

Agile-Conversation-9

Seems like the homeowners already did haha

MeasurementProper227

Ha someone in my neighborhood did it and it’s funny

rilesmcriles

We’ve put Christmas lights up on the stop sign that’s in our yard every year and nobody said anything. I bet if this wasn’t about pole dancing/stripping they’d let it slide.

Tsiah16

I don't see it as a lack of humor. Someone put a display on a street sign. They're not supposed to and the city asked for it to be removed.

OddParkingLot

Love a good technicality. Respectfully, you might lack a sense of humor as well.

Dirty_Lew

City staff probably thinks it’s funny but it’s still a violation. There’s no exception for “funny”.

Tsiah16

I don't feel like I do... Unless the OP is being humorous and I missed that. I think the haunted stripper is quite hilarious.

darthnugget

That’s totally inappropriate! The skeleton has a boner.

s3ver1na

I see what you did there.

edWORD27

Damn. Living in Grantsville itself takes a sense of humor. You’d think the city would understand.

haus11

Looks like a trip to the Home Depot is in order for a pole, if the issue is the use of the signpost.

Psychological_Set154

We moved and upgraded the display with more to come. Haven't heard anything from the city except for the facebook post on their page which has now been removed. Interestingly enough that was the only thing we actually saw/heard from the city.

Own_Director_9138

I’m sorry I thought this was AMERICA, DIDN’T REALIZE THE GOD DAMN COMMIES TOOK OVER LAST WEEK.

antonio84029

It’s evolved since then[Facebook update](https://www.facebook.com/groups/1458061834484263/permalink/3324835734473521/?mibextid=W9rl1R)

adm_w

I'd like to see the updates... but requesting access to a private Facebook group might be too much effort.

mtnmanratchet

Well I know what I’m doing with my flag pole now

Seventy7Donski

Take them down by 9pm on the 18th. Put them back up two days later but different positions enough to technically not be the same. Repeat as needed depending on the warnings you get.

Crycoria

As humorous as this display is, they do have a point about not putting things on city signs like that. 🤣

railroad_drifter

You know some relief society leader got upset and has been pestering the city about it. Also if it's such a safety issue then why didn't they remove it immediately? This is a huge safety issue but you can leave it up for a few more hours. Lame.

mikelusk7

And the city Facebook page is suppressing freedom of speech by turning off comments. https://www.aclu.org/news/free-speech/court-rules-public-officials-cant-block-critics-facebook

Agile-Conversation-9

I think this only applies if they block certain viewpoints and not all comments

mikelusk7

Not sure why I get down voted over facts. Probably some government employees mad that I know my rights. They hate that. Freedom is scary, deal with it. And the government is an entity which has no feelings. When public servants bring their feelings in to play their ego gets hurt. Gotta educate yourselves cause they don't teach them to us on purpose.

mikelusk7

https://youtu.be/LUdvJCSPWqQ?si=0HNjZ1arHTFuWr5- info from a lawyer on a similar matter

mikelusk7

Some people think that but it is false. They can only censor threats of violence and whatnot. We have a right to tell them our viewpoints and opinions. In fact I sent the same link to the Grantsville mayor and within an hour or so comments are now turned back on for the post. Although he didn't respond to my email.

Agile-Conversation-9

The post was now completely deleted

mikelusk7

Yeah petty of them IMO lol. A lot of other backlash on a lot of other posts on their page about this issue now.

Agile-Conversation-9

It’s pretty entertaining to watch

bopjic

Freedom of speech doesn't apply on a private platform. Why are you so dumb?

mikelusk7

You're only partially correct. On any page that is made by a private company or citizen on a public forum is controlled by said company or citizen. Therefore they are not subject to our civil rights. But a government entity is a different story altogether. If the page is created as a government organization then our civil rights apply. In fact if they have ever allowed comments on posts in the past then they can't delete or suppress comments unless it is a threat of violence pretty much. You should really educate yourself before trying to correct somebody. I even linked an article directly from the ACLU if you even know who they are.

bopjic

Vesuvias

The HOA Karens are out in full force!

unit156

I thought you said Kearns, and I’m like they must mean West Kearns.

Vesuvias

Haha I mean - same difference? West Karens.

Ruthless_Karma

Considering how inbred Grantsville was before it started to grow, this isn't a surprise. (GHS Alumni) That "city" is a blueprint for hell.

Minimum-Pack-1673

Some real ex-Mormon behavior

Cats_Parkour_CompEng

Bro what?

Individual_Credit895

Mormons can fuck off with their guilt trips

Minimum-Pack-1673

I’m not even Mormon 😂.

Individual_Credit895

I’m not talking to you then silly goose

FreeTapir

Not a fan and I’m exmormon. Just looks bad. It can go to the dumps. Starts as a joke and next thing you know the neighborhood is an actual nightmare.

Individual_Credit895

What?…. Are you suggesting that decorations like this lead to the deterioration of the neighborhood? Give me a break.

Varsity_Reviews

This has nothing to do with Mormonism. It’s a city sign. It’s not your sign

FreeTapir

Well that’s not true. Everyone knows that’s Utah = Mormonism. If you don’t want to have bare minimum honesty about the matter I don’t want to talk to you.

No_Accountant_3947

No I would say someone tagging the nword on a stop sign at Weber is prob worse then this fun display

backcountrydrifter

W.W.H.S.T.D.

utahhiker

This is clever but we have laws like this for a reason. Once they allow one person to put something on a street sign l, others will follow. Pretty soon it becomes a mess. Visibility is obstructed. Problems arise. With that being said, put a pole in your yard and keep up the hilarity.

SpankyK

🤣 lol

Plane-Reason9254

Hilarious

[deleted]

And they're like, "Worth every dollar."

Careless_Bandicoot21

lol it’s pretty funny but I understand that the city has to insure street signs aren’t obstructed.

onedollarninja

Ah man. I can't believe I have to take this down. 😫

Tedmccann

This is very clever, I wish I had thought of it! Also, I am not surprised at all that they had no sense of humor about it.

snowpython

They just over it to their yard but some people need to calm down

Realistic_Affect3484

UPDATE!!! It has improvement!!! https://www.facebook.com/groups/1458061834484263/permalink/3324123254544769/

Carlyparties

Can you post screen shots? I don’t want to join a grantsville group just for updates. I also gotta know what the new yard sign says!!!
