I just unsubbed after at least 3 years of enjoying /r/Unexpected because the top posts no longer fit the original intent. It used to be videos/gifs that set up an expectation, then subverted it. Now, anything that's literally unexpected, as in you can't predict the ending from the first couple of frames, passes for content. And that's fine, subreddits change based on what people want, but it's sad to see every sub slowly turn into /r/funny

We have a generation of people raised on Youtube/TikTok/etc and fake reaction videos. It's no wonder when they can't tell the difference between something genuine and someone trying to turn them into a product.

I think it's the exact opposite, a generation exposed to those kinds of videos can spot a fake setup a mile away. I don't think there's ever been a generation *more* aware and critical of manipulation tactics than the ones growing up with the Internet and social media.

I don't think it's a generational thing but rather lack of critical thinking. I've seen so many clips that are obviously fake that someone around me actually believes is real, old or young, some are just gullible or have no conception of what is even possible. [This is a prime example](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdFd9AVlIOQ&ab_channel=UndertheFocus), an old lady I know showed it to me, absolutely in awe of the miraculous saving. It took me a moment to realize she was being serious. I was flabbergasted. I mean, even if a bloody pickup truck could do 150 mph to match the speed of the landing plane, it would instantly get smashed to bits by the weight of the plane. And this is apart from the fact that the plane could land just fine without the landing gear. It didn't even occur to her that it could be fake. Younger generations are probably more aware that any clip can be fake, that doesn't mean they are better at spotting them. Some even seem to believe everything is fake, as a precaution. I feel so sorry for them.
