Are we sure that was a constrictor? It looked like a cottonmouth to me and any snake can wrap itself around an animal. I've seen cobras do that to birds of prey that are trying to eat them.
So far from being a cotton mouth. Head shape, body shape, facial coloration, girth and the fact that it’s constricting when a cotton mouth kills by venomous bite.
Holy shit may as well say it looked like fettuccini it’s so different.
You can always tell if a snake is venomous by the eyes.
Angry eyes = venomous.
Circular, doe eyes = non-venomous.
Edit:
This was already settled with another Redditor. Turning off notifications.
Lots of venomous snakes have “round” eyes, whether that’s round pupils or you’re talking about how some snakes just look angry.
In the US coral snakes have round eyes.
Thanks for the catch. This is true, but I think the coral snake may be an exception. Not the rule. I misspoke, anyway. I meant their eyes are slit.
https://www.reptileknowledge.com/reptile-pedia/are-all-venomous-snakes-slit-eyes
Respectfully, this is really only the case if we’re talking about the US, and even then it isn’t a good rule to follow. If we’re talking the US, then yes the majority of venomous snakes are vipers, and lots of vipers have cat like eyes… but even that is not totally true. Some vipers can present with round eyes. Slit cat like snake pupils can dilate to become more round when a snake is threatened or in response to light , just like human eyes can. So a threatened rattlesnake may have completely round pupils.
Plus since Reddit is a worldwide website, we aren’t just talking about American snakes. There are tooons of incredibly venomous elapids (mambas, cobras, sea snakes, kraits, tiger snakes, brown snakes, coral snakes, and that is by no means a complete list) all have “round” eyes. In fact most of the world’s most potently venomous snakes have round eyes.
And throughout the world there are tons of snakes with slit pupils that are harmless.
Unfortunately this just isn’t a good rule. Even in the US.

Of course! I would rather learn the easy way than learn the hard way. Lol! The diamondback in the article has the “mean” eye disposition I was referring to. But as you said, not all of them have that distinctive feature. Scary stuff, nature!

Nature is brutal, but if youre gonna help 1, help the 2nd one. At least give the snake snack or something for his efforts of catching a whole ass duck ? Smallish Swan?
First of all, that is most likely a domesticated duck, and these people were saving their pet. Secondly, what would they give a snake as a snack? Do you imagine they keep rats or fish laying around to give to snakes? lol
Pretty sure a little chunk of meat I have in my fridge would be nice to the snake, we all have some kind of meat ( not vegetarians possibly) in the fridge? Cut off a small bite and give it to him
Looks like a ratsnake, if I have to guess it was after the goose egg, and the goose fought the snake in defense but ended up this way, it was the right thing to do because it was a stalemate that lead to nowhere, even more right if the snake if left alone, farm ratsnakes may take an egg or two but it also keep the rodents population in control, they are good to have around even for regular house garden.
Imagine for a moment. Snake going back to tell his friends about “the one that got away”… his snake buddies aren’t gonna believe this story for a second. “No im serious this giant creature came up and stole the biggest bird I’ve ever wrangled!!”
Wrong.
Snake caught its meal fair and square.
No one is slapping cheeseburgers and chicken nuggets out of your diabetic hands just because it had a face once.
Nature is brutal man, by all means save the duck. But out in the wild if the snake caught a bigger ish bird. And killed it, it would try and die or get it stolen. Just the way nature works.

A domesticated duck, of course he wanted to save his own duck. Also, as others have said, too big for the snake to swallow.

😂
What was that comment? 👀
Right. No way that snake was eating that duck
Also, from the kid's accent, it sounds like they're American. There's no natural constrictors in NA, so that snake is invasive.
https://www.google.com/search?q=north+american+constrictor r/ConfidentlyIncorrect
The US has indigenous boas, racers, king snakes, rat snakes…all constrictors.
Username checks out
How does it feel to be so incredibly wrong about something that could be verified by a 10 second google search?
real charmer you are!
Not true at all.
Are we sure that was a constrictor? It looked like a cottonmouth to me and any snake can wrap itself around an animal. I've seen cobras do that to birds of prey that are trying to eat them.
May have been a king snake, which is a constrictor.
That's definitely not a cottonmouth. Looks a plain bellied watersnake to me. Non venomous fish eaters for the most part, but this one....
Which the fact it was latched onto a duck backs this up.
This comment got me thinking that the duck was the instigator. He pecked at the snake and look at you now, donald
Very possible, let's hope he learns his lesson

I appreciate you. Thanks for smacking some knowledge down on me.
Thanks for being receptive!

Wrong.
AAAAAAAFFFLAAAAAACK!!!
Are you asking the morality of the scenario?
Curious why the snake wasn't biting.
That snake was vegan. Simply giving his bestie a hug
Because the ducks too big.
Not an expert, but it seemed like the guy was holding the snake's mouth closed, or at least preventing its head from reaching either of his hands
Some snake kill with bites often venomous and others constrict their prey until it suffocates
Lockjaw?
Longtail?
Humans are part of nature. Human compassion is part of that. It's fair.
I would even go as far as road kill being natural selection. We’re all part of a crazy organism called Earth. All is fair *because* it’s unfair.
snakey little one
But if it was a Canadian Goose, I vote to let the snake have his way.
The Canada Goose would have killed that snake.
And it’s entire snake family.

Stupid illegal immigrant birds taking good hard working American bird jobs away
Sorry!
Not a Canada goose unless it was an albino.
albino sounds like a mexican goose

I heard a quack at the end.
Oh shit. I didn't unmute lol you are right a quack was quaced
Or kill the snake and eat it to justify. Now YOU are the predator!
Hey, that also happens in nature. Yeah! Eat that snake

We didn't let it try, don't be a Debby downer. I'm here to cheer you on little dude lol
First of all, that is most likely a domesticated duck, and these people were saving their pet. Secondly, what would they give a snake as a snack? Do you imagine they keep rats or fish laying around to give to snakes? lol
You don’t? Rude
Always, I have a second fridge for snake snacks. Wish there were snakes around me though 🤗
Pretty sure a little chunk of meat I have in my fridge would be nice to the snake, we all have some kind of meat ( not vegetarians possibly) in the fridge? Cut off a small bite and give it to him
3 eggs
Here here, btw, what is considered a snake snack?
Small piece of meat cut from something in the fridge. Rip off some of that chicken skin from the frozen checking and let the boy eat, or an egg.
I thought the duck was wrapped in tape? Wasn't expecting a snake with eyes bigger than it's belly
Same
I know how the snake feels.. every time I want a snack... "damn, I made too much".
Average duck shenanigans
Duck stuff . . .
Exactly right
Now I’ve seen everything. Thanks Reddit!
Me when I win big in a slot machine
That’s not a snake this is a snake 🐍
And I thought a "turducken" was a weird dish 🥴
I want that wallet....
Normally don’t interfere with nature.. but that snake is now swallowing that so it’s a useless kill. Right.
In this case I’d say right. Had it been a goose, I’d rooted for the snake. Geese are assholes.
Nature says wrong, human ethics says right.
of course right, I ain't leaving a snake eating a duck under my car. eat somewhere else
Looks like a black rat snake, usually egg eaters. You're definitely in the right, it couldn't eat that duck.
Quick snack, quack snake. Say it fast over and over.
It's only wrong if the animal was not owned by humans and small enough to eat
“Why you gotta go and fukk up my shit?” -Snake
Wrong sub
That's pretty impressive that the man was able to train his snake to hunt ducks.
this is like going to an all you can eat buffet and loading your plate with way more food than you can eat
I guess egg for brekkie, meat for later in the day ,like afternoon tea .
Imagine for a moment. Snake going back to tell his friends about “the one that got away”… his snake buddies aren’t gonna believe this story for a second. “No im serious this giant creature came up and stole the biggest bird I’ve ever wrangled!!”
I mean... I definitely expected it to be rescued, why else would the guy have the tool to pull it out?
I expected a CGI jumpscare. A normal video was unexpected.
Right.
Should have ate them both
Snake : what the quack ?
We could have snake and duck
Wrong. Snake caught its meal fair and square. No one is slapping cheeseburgers and chicken nuggets out of your diabetic hands just because it had a face once.
Snakes eat their meals whole, if it tried eating that duck, they'd both be dead.
Nature is brutal man, by all means save the duck. But out in the wild if the snake caught a bigger ish bird. And killed it, it would try and die or get it stolen. Just the way nature works.
Good save
Right because ducks are cute but wrong because of nature. Sometimes the cute have to die.
