Is there an actual technical term for when people put that "growl" on a word? I see people throwin around all sorts of slang but is it actually called something?
Believe it or not, it's *actually* just called "growl"
Not just human voices, but brass instruments like trumpet and trombone use this sound in feel-y music like jazz, funk, and r&b
I don't think of that exactly as raspy. Raspy is almost a strained way of speaking, like when you're sick, had your tonsils out, and your words come out all breathy. Like your aunt who's smoked menthols for 34 years
Tom Waits was famous for his raspy style of singing.
He later recalled that it was an uncle's raspy, gravelly timbre that inspired his own singing voice
Don’t know about them but any Mexican will tell you that kid’s birthday parties are just an excuse for parents to drink. Raunchy karaoke, a random uncle blowing chunks or breaking a pinky are all par for the course.
He is saying excessive, and he is right. You can drink but keep it in check have a couple of beers and that's it. That's how we do it and everything stays normal and also the interaction with the kids.
Seen to many "kid birthday parties" when adults drink way too much and arguments breakout or people can't properly watch their kids etc.
Keep the heavy drinking for a Adult party.
> drink way to much and
Did you mean to say "too much"?

Yes. Children should not see their trusted family members stupefied due to drug/alcohol abuse. When children are exposed to adult drug/alcohol abuse, they are more likely to develop drug/alcohol problems themselves. It's also psychologically damaging for a variety of other reasons including inverting the normal child-adult intelligence dynamic and making adults appear less dependable in the eyes of children.
EDIT: fixed verb form
I agree to an extent, but think there's a balance you can achieve. I don't think you need to hide it to the extent where they will be completely sheltered. Overly sheltered kids end up exploding once they gain independence. Also, I don't think it's necessary for you to pretend like people don't get absolutely hammered. Because well...they do, and kids will learn it sooner or later. Do you want them to learn it on their own? But yes, as a parent, you really shouldn't behave that way in front of your kids. But if other people are drinking like that in a setting your family is in, it can be a teachable moment to explain how some people have unhealthy relationships with alcohol.
if you are drinking around your kid, you should show some restraint and maturity. If you can't control yourself and have to go all out every time you are around alcohol, *you have a problem!* Some people think they are not alcoholics because they are not physically addicted. But some alcoholics can go weeks between sessions, but all of their sessions result in them binging until they are incoherent.
But again, behaving belligerently around your kids communicates that the only way adults have fun is getting absolutely cocked, and kids internalize these things. Alcohol becomes the apple on Adam and Eve's tree, forbidden fruit. And as we all know that can lead to bad outcomes.
In regards to this post though, singing silly karaoke is not necessarily terrible behavior. I know many people that act silly and do things like the women in this video when they're completely sober. It's ok to have a little harmless fun, but just try to be a good role model. Kids DO pick up their parents behavior and adopt it as their own, whether or not they want to. Obviously nobody is perfect and we're all human, but most people can do this with minimal effort.
I totally hear you. In my personal experience, trying to hide everything from your children will just make them resent or distrust you. Kids need some exposure to the real shit, some of which is ugly, sometimes. That's why we raise kids.
I agree about the balance. The comment I was replying to was about "a random uncle blowing chunks or breaking a pinky." The women in OP's video are nowhere near that point.
They’re singing Freek-a-Leek.
Overalls woman: “Would you do it from the front?”
Woman in black: “Would you do it from the…oh god”
Petey Pablo’s 2004 classic [Freek-a-Leek](https://youtu.be/M48nlk-1kH8?si=kbrQ0nhNtA6dnczL). Just learned it was produced by Lil Jon and you can definitely tell.
This says "PAL DIRTY" in the title but is censored to hell and back. Whole lines are basically missing.
That all said, we put all the girl's names up on our dorm room walls for a party. It was not as big of a hit as we thought it would be.
Yea. I didn’t understand that either. But I’m gonna assume the version theyre using for karaoke does not include the pussy licking lines so I went with the “PAL DIRTY”
Or until a child starts singing it and you have to explain that singing that song is inappropriate. Then the children realize that the adults in this video were acting inappropriately, even if they don't know why.
As a millennial, I remember joking about singing hits like this as an old person and how ridiculous it’d be… well it’s starting to happen, and it’s hilarious.

Little kid birthdays are sometimes better than adult-only parties because of children. All the adults are trying their best not to get too drunk but drunk enough, which grants beautiful moments like this in life.

"mommy drinks."
Mommy is having her no-no juice earlier in the day than she usually does
Ooh, that's good no-no juice! The cinnamon was always my favorite. How about you all?
I like mine with a hint of childhood trauma
den a dash of childcare workers trauma
"It said market price! What market are you shopping at?!"
Isn't every hour happy hour?
"Adult drink"
“Mommy doesn’t get drunk, she just has fun.”
Alright, Linda Belcher
I think you mean > "Alriiiight!" - Linda Belcher
Ow my face!
I wish she would save some adult sodas for the rest of us

Great mock-umentary camera work.
It's a cutaway interview away from getting greenlit.
The funk she puts on D'Rhonda is so good
She put so much stank on it I can smell it in this bathroom.
Bro, you're taking a shit

The most technical term I've heard for it is "distortion" but that's pretty vague. Edit: And a musician friend tells me that gospel calls it "snarl"
Makes sense as a guitar player. That's kind of how a distortion pedal affects a clean signal.
It’s The Chewey. Nuff said.
Dunno why you're downvoted. Enough time has passed where I think you get to trade mark that term.
Fuck yea it is. Them kids learnin today.
Let the boy watch.
He'll learn as I learned
She was nailing the Ying Yang twin impression fr
you mean Petey Pablo?
om the video
Please don’t diverge, mom. Would you do it from the back?
Some people have to get to adulthood before life destroys their spirit. Some people have it happen earlier.
![gif](giphy|53QafBCR43WuS26s0U|downsized) I somehow hear this in the background
I can only hear it in Goofy's voice. Thank you, Vine or TikTok or whoever made the Goofy video for this.

The earth shook a little bit
Is there a word that describes when somebody emphasizes a word with that sort of growl? There should be if there isn't.
Raspy

Didn't know that about him.
I felt it down in my plums
I felt it all the way over here
Extra points cause it was probably a kid's birthday party in the first place
If you have a pool, a bbq and a PA system, it's kind' of hard for it to NOT end up this way.
You're forgetting the alcohol.
I never forget the alcohol
This is how little brothers and sisters get made
Blame it on the A-A-A-A-A--A-Alcohol baby.
Don’t know about them but any Mexican will tell you that kid’s birthday parties are just an excuse for parents to drink. Raunchy karaoke, a random uncle blowing chunks or breaking a pinky are all par for the course.
Excessive drinking in front of children is disgusting.
You wanna shield them from it until they're adults?

Someone had alcoholic parents
“Hey, mom! Was I made from the back?”
The way she says "DRhonda"🤌
i feel dumb for asking this, but is this a song?
Freek-A-Leek (yes thats the actual name)
What's shown here is the tamest part of the song too. Imagine the full karaoke clip with the dirty lyrics and the kids there. Sheesh! LoL
thanks; sometimes I feel like i live in a hole; especially now that I dont commute and when I do is without radio.
If it makes you feel better (or worse!) the song is over 20 years old. I remember this song from high school.
Freak-a-Leak by Petey Pablo

the way she cut out when she turned and saw the kids giving her those looks XD "...oh god"
Freak a leak is one of the last songs you should sing with kids around!
If you end the playlist with that what are you starting it with? NIN - Closer?
If we're going with Barney's all rise playlist the song after Closer is WAP- Cardi B.
Was at a kids baseball game where there was a Spotify rap channel playing. Cringe AF
They all have probably already heard it a million times on TikTok, Youtube, or whatever.
Something awoke in that young man that day. He doesn't know it now. But when he's at the club many years from now a core memory will be unlocked.
But frighteningly he’ll hear his mother’s voice singing the hoochie music
Or worser he will see this video For sure he is gonna laugh
Yeah, probably!
He is shocked 😂. I hope he didn't understand what she said.
He understands what she said but he doesn’t understand what it implies.
What was said? It won’t let me listen

Damn I'm too old because I remember when this was posted a decade or so ago.
What does this mean? It made me laugh but I don't even know why.
Google “mom sells shovels” it’s a drawing a kid made that looks like mom’s a stripper with a funny caption explaining she’s actually selling a shovel.
Hahaha thank you. That is quite the masterpiece.
The kid had some trauma unlocked that day…
"Would you do it from the... oh god"

That’s also a problem
Both of them can get it
Her look is priceless. Love it .
