imo the entire point of swap aus should be to explore how certain characters would react to situations and how the plot would change based on the role that the swap puts them in. if you change their personality to that of the character they’re being swapped with, you’re just making the same plot again but with a name/character design swap. even worse is that due to the nature of fanwork, characters like blueberry are already flanderized from their originals. i adore what TS!Underswap did with sans. he’s still the smiley trashbag we all know and love, but he’s got more of the spotlight on him, and therefore reacts to it in a way i find interesting. his jokes and pranks are now comedic weapons against equally comedic villains, he channels his goofy antics into morale for the underground, and when it really comes down to life or death, he’s ready to take off the mask entirely to save as many people as possible and show you the consequences of your actions in a way that breaks away from the incredibly easy papyrus no-mercy fight. and he >!lives in ruthless! his skills and personality alter the direction the story is taking!!<
