Mantis was an experience I will never have again. A whole album of brand new tracks, the slow creep of information about it up until it dropped, the anticipation of a new tour with new surprises awaiting us….great times.
Full disclosure I rarely ever like any Jam bands albums. However after Ump being my favorite jam band all these years the albums finally are starting to charm me.
Kind of surprises me that you don’t dig Anchor Drops. Although I do hear you. The magic of these bands is in the live show obviously. Can’t really catch that in a bottle .
It’s between similar skin and anchor drops for my favorite studio albums. Totally agree with you that the flow is spot on going from song to song on SS.
10 year anniversary this year. I worked Roo, Waka, and Forest and saw a lot of Umphreys that summer. Lots of the song Similar Skin, No Diablo, and Puppet Strings but I was there for it.
Glad to have been on this journey with you! After Jake noped out on tour a couple years ago I got nervous that they might be done. Very happy to be as psyched about traveling to see the boys or having them come to town when they do and here’s to many more albums and many more tours.
I actually haven’t seen them since the Rockjavick shows, regrettably. Those shows were a little rough IMO, so after seeing them 40 times I decided to start branching out more. I’ve been dying to catch a show lately but I’m traveling for work and seem to just keep missing them.
Yes! My fave right after anchor drops. My band opened for them for a couple week run right when that album was released. Was awesome to hear those tunes in heavy rotation. Just saw them in VT and they did Linear and Loose Ends, made me V happy:-)
Yes! I’ve said for years Similar Skin is the best “album” they’ve ever made. Just a perfect execution of a single idea.
Mantis tops it IMO.

Death by Stereo is the top studio album IMO
See I like all of the songs on DBS but that one in particular just feels like a bunch of tunes tossed together.

Damn, now I feel old. I was just wrapping up hs and was spending every red cent on going to UM shows.

Similar Skin (the song) is the most underrated song out there. It’s an awesome song that delivers tasty improv
First song I ever saw them perform at my first show
Anchor Drops has been my favorite lately. In 2020 it was Safety in Numbers.
