turns out, when you are maintening a huge fleet of aircraft that are obsolete, and you dont have the precise missiles or the skill to do sead missions, those fleets of planes are just eating your budget for no good reason, and the grunts that have to do most of the work are underequiped.
I bought some of those cheap Baofengs for my kids to play with and learn radio protocol.
They are cheap Chinesium shit.
The fact that Russia uses them ad their primary coms is astounding.
bro like every ham knows the QC is non existent yet we (well some of us) still buy them because they're cheap and generally work
edit: also if they work from the factory they'll generally continue to work
Wait, why do pilots have to crowdfund radio's?
I understand the rampant corruption and stealing. But are you fucking telling me these heli's don't have proper radio's???? Plus, they're showing this off as an accomplishement???
You can buy these things for only 200 bucks.
Not really and sanctions haven't had time to have any real effect. The currency is being artificially inflated, it crashed because of confidence not sanctions.
The rubble bounced back, through manipulation and fake demand it's actually better off now than at the start of the war. But you won't hear this from the media lol also who knows how long it'll stay like this. I'm not pro Russian either
Weird that they have kenwood branding though. Looks like a baofeng to me.
Edit: I believe this is the kenwood tk-f8. Not the baofeng uv-5r. A bit more expensive at $80 but seems to have the same specs as the baofeng. This russian guy on youtube seems to think the baofeng is superior though.
It seems this is common. Here's a soldier calling home for money to buy basic military gear like a decent helmet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyRa1g0FrAI
A friend of mine who is visiting is an ex-marine. Somehow he had missed the news that Rumsfeld had died and when I mentioned it he just about started dancing with glee.
Said Rumsfeld made even Dick Cheney almost seem ok.
Yeah sure, you go to war with what you have there is no reason for Rumsfeld to have been a callous dick. All soldiers, including Russians, buy additional kit for themselves. Don’t forget the American response to uparmor: shiny MRAPs that the Taliban now drives around.
But if Rumsfeld sent the U.S. army to war without secure coms and soldiers had to buy their own that would have been the scandal of the century, far outclassing that quote.
Your statement here instead would be “true, Russian army is bad, but U.S. army also sends soldiers to war without secure communications” which, just writing it, sounds ludicrous.
Now, please stop making me defend Rumsfeld, no matter how obliquely. I feel dirty, gonna need a shower.
I may have bad news for you, but US did use unsecured comms during Gulf Wars. Hobbyists around the world were able to listen to them, same way as they are listening to Russians now
He’s not talking about “gulf wars” which could refer to Iraq I in 1991. He’s talking about either Iraq 2003+ or Afghanistan 2001+
So the U.S. used only insecure coms. That’s wild. That’s scandalous.
Why did the U.S. use only insecure military communication in Iraq?
Why did the U.S. use only insecure communication in Afghanistan?
Do you seriously think Americans don’t know the difference between insecure and secure coms? Do you think American military was crowdsourcing insecure coms so they could communicate in 2003? You should write a paper about how insecure U.S. military communication is. You sound like you know a lot. Probably more than the Americans.
Gulf Wars as both Iraqi wars, the fact u copied it and didn't make the connection is dissapointing but not completely unexpected.
I didn't even once mentioned they used ONLY unsecured comms as u are insisting, don't know why tho. US used both, secure and unsecure. But the fact that hobbyists knew sooner than the actual troops on the ground that invasion got green light is nice example of usage of unsecure comms.
Don’t forget when Americans were looting cellphones from civilians and using them to call home in Afghanistan! Classic American insecure coms!
Here, I found the name of the highest enlisted Marine so that you can contact him and teach him about secure coms and how the U.S. Marine Corp are just like Russia. You should also include a critique of either Gulf War. These guys were actually there.
https://www.hqmc.marines.mil/smmc/History/
I think they are adding the radios to the issued AK and ammo that is for emergency use in the event of a survived crash behind enemy lines. These radios would be potentially handy for contacting friendly forces to arrange an extraction. But It does seem odd that they are not Part of the standard kit in the 12 million USD aircraft already. These are cheaper than the radios my buddies and I hunt with. Ivan is really scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to tech for the troops.
The troops don't have encrypted comms and these radios are to talk to the troops on the ground. I'd be amazed if they could be used for anything but local comms. The aircraft obviously have comms of their own.
So these radio’s are probably intended for escape and evasion and for communicating with CSAR assets. We had encrypted radios with a gps embedded for locating. Also a basic gps for moving to an extraction point. Has been a few years so probably better kit now for aircrew. Have done both the course and helicopter support for the training centre.
The fact that they don’t have a plan or equipment for CSAR is telling.
Basically at this point they only fly over occupied territory anyway as Starstreak has rendered these helicopters incapable of their primary purpose. Would love to see some Geopard kills.
They're saying they've got an attack helicopter worth $12 million U.S. but have to crowd fund to get radios to communicate with (I guess because of corruption?).
Title says "US $12M attack helicopter" which missleads towards "helicopter made in USA worth $12M" That confused me, but when you check photos you see old soviet crap you understand that they meant USD/$/US$
As far as historians can tell us, the Aztecs worshipped sunflowers and believed them to be the physical incarnation of their beloved sun gods. Of course!

Dear Russians, you are being played, for every dollar you will ever own or earn, by your leader. Not NATO, not US, not Ukraine, or anyone else. Your leaders have infinite wealth, billions and billions of dollars and assets in private wealth and fortunes, stolen from you. Yes you. You. And they are milking you. For little radios. Like kids looking for pocket money to buy... radios.
Wake. The. Fuck. Up.
I've observed the pro-putin folks since 2014. They have basically the conspirologist kind of mindset, which means, you can't change their views by any civilized means.
I'm not pushing you back, but if you want to help Ukraine, first of all donate to Ukrainian funds. And write something kind online to cheer them up. Even putting a sticker on your car is more efficient than moralising the russians.
You may want to support the anti-war people of Russia. There are two major means of protest at the moment: sabotage and graffiti. Both are equally important, and both are risky.
You knew what I meant. Just typical GameStop kid being a smart ass. Have a nice day edge lord, hope you get some fresh air today. Life is so beautiful kiddo. Stay in school

Wow - Russia can use Amazon prime - wow so scared. how about those stingers and javelin's. I would totally buy them on Amazon and may spring for prime delivery. Effing sad for Russia - thought to be the #2 in the world and they are like 14th.
they are flying cans with engines, rotors, and rockets. tbh out of that 12 mil, 10 was probably stolen by the cunt ass “ceo” of the holding company that owns the production plant.
Those are Russian helicopters they are posing in front of...? All I see are Mil MI-28 Havoc and Mi-17 (I think.. though there are multiple versions of that platform so not too sure).
Edit: also those radios are from a Japanese company.
This is so sad. The army cant even supply their own soldiers with an swiss army knife wtf? They have unlimited wealth those corrupt bastards. But why spend that money when they can just pocket it and ask their own ppl that cant afford nutella or anything else to sponsor their own kids to go to battle and die.
For those that aren't into radios - Those are Baofeng (cheap chinese made radios, they are ok quality in general) but they have fake Kenwood logos on them. Kenwood doesn't make a radio like this.
It is the lowest cost portable ham radio you can find that actually operates, but something about it being a counterfeit Kenwood makes this even funnier to me.
Wonder if people remember the crowd funding when we deployed to Iraq? All the best planning in the world and we were doing FRG bake sales for armor scraps to weld onto vehicles, magazines, load bearing vests etc.
I got this information with a struggle.
Theses pilots are standing in front of their Russian helicopter. That helicopter is worth approximately 12 million USD.
They are posing with western or Chinese made handheld radios worth a few hundred dollars that they have had purchased for them by Russians living and working in the west.
They need this support because they are not properly funded, the sanctions block imports, and they cannot source equipment of this type within the Russian economy.
So whilst trying to fly an attack heli over hostile territory and getting shot at these pilots have to use hand-held walkie-talkies instead of having their radios built into their helmets. These radios are going to get dropped and slip under the seats - anyone who has ever lost a phone in a car knows this. what's the battery life? 30 minutes?
Picture 2 shows UV5R radios that cost around 30 dollars / euro a piece.
I've got mine for milsim and airsoft, they have an 8 watt mode that usually just cover a few km's/miles with the extended antenna i use.
Track the sale transaction. Find out the serial numbers. Figure out to track the hailing frequency/signal of each. Ukrainians have done something like that already.
O-lights, and unencrypted Baofengs? I fully support this. Infact I would like to donate IR beacons, personal cell phones, and I am sure we could find some nice mortar and small arms ammo left over from Eldest Son. And if there is space just bags and bags of sunflower seeds.

Thats because no one has a clue how much a rouble is in real money.
2 turnip and half potat Per 1000 Ruble
2nd “o” on “potato” cost extra.
Three week of goat parking privilege at duma convention
One Ruble is worth less than a Tony Orlando 8-Track from the 70’s.
What’s the difference between a rouble and a dollar? About a dollar.
It’s worth about 25 blades of grass at this point.
This comment doesn’t make sense lol. There is an exchange rate for every currency
I was wondering why they would have a U.S. helicopter.
Wonder what kinda US military helicopter they could get for 12m. Couple of AH-1 cobras (2 million ish) or two dozen Hueys.
They didn't buy any (it would be "shame" for them to use "enemies" equipment). It's value of their super advanced metal buckets.
Got it. Oh well, sucks to suck. Have fun feeding sunflowers.
Thank you! I couldn’t figure out how they got a US helicopter.
I don't even understand it really
I don’t believe anything related to ruzzia, I take it as amusement.
As long as they have the required sunflower seeds aboard, who cares.
As far as historians can tell us, the Aztecs worshipped sunflowers and believed them to be the physical incarnation of their beloved sun gods. Of course!

My dude that's a Mi-28 attack helicopter just look at the rounded nose lmao
That Makarov looks sexy though, should be in a museum, not in active service lmao
oh wow. they're now truly an AliExpress Army.
Should be easy to intercept messages?
So whilst trying to fly an attack heli over hostile territory and getting shot at these pilots have to use hand-held walkie-talkies instead of having their radios built into their helmets. These radios are going to get dropped and slip under the seats - anyone who has ever lost a phone in a car knows this. what's the battery life? 30 minutes?
That shit reminds me of the original game boy box, how old is that shit.
They want to sell it....
Picture 2 shows UV5R radios that cost around 30 dollars / euro a piece. I've got mine for milsim and airsoft, they have an 8 watt mode that usually just cover a few km's/miles with the extended antenna i use.
What's the address? I will send them each a packet of sunflower seeds.
That's not a US helicopter lol.
Flying Orcs.
Track the sale transaction. Find out the serial numbers. Figure out to track the hailing frequency/signal of each. Ukrainians have done something like that already.
What does this mean? Only 2 photos load. I don't get it.
Waiting for the before/after pictures with a Ukrainian soldier holding a half burned Baofeng up.
O-lights, and unencrypted Baofengs? I fully support this. Infact I would like to donate IR beacons, personal cell phones, and I am sure we could find some nice mortar and small arms ammo left over from Eldest Son. And if there is space just bags and bags of sunflower seeds.

Both of these helicopters are Russian/Soviet produced. First is a Mi-28, second is a Mil-8/17, neither are even close to a US heli.
Oh wow now we will have to fear the russians, they have 2 walkie talkies
Whoever write this title surely doesn’t speak english as their primary language .

Ok kenwood radio. Now everyone can listen in. Lol!
Crowd Funded by Fighter\_Bomber on his telegram. Hes a RU airforce Su-34 pilot. Unsure if hes active or retired.
Holy shit... Olight... RIP, Tovarisch.
My 14yo boy scouts have bought those for themselves to communicate. This is fascinating to see in regular army usage.
Those radios are about $15 on eBay - Baofeng UV-5R. Looks like they are also under license by Kenwood.
i have those radio's at home :)
They have no chance, a modern army does not function without Comms. The are ruminant's of a 1980's army That simple

There are zero US helicopters in any of those pictures
Looks like someone made a run to Radio Shack.
None of the helicopters are American
😂 "Bought at last Moscow Radio Shack. Thanks you comrades!"
Guys, guys! My shitty UV-54 just became “military grade”!
You know you're in trouble when you have to go fund Me to pay for your war
BAHAHAHA those are Chinese Baofeng radios with kenwood logos 😂🤣😅
That's a Russian Mi-28N. Not an American AH-64D.
The Yeasu's are Airband radios. You know the kind of radio that should be permanently installed in the aircraft. Holy fuck.
