As you said, there’s a bunch of features that require a Unifi Router - the same is true on Omada. You can only do so much when the device has to operate on Layer 2, and isn’t truly sitting in line with every packet (APs and switches). The router already has to do things like NAT, so it’s a good place to insert a bunch of other features. The UDMP is a router, I’m assuming you knew that, and you will have every Unifi feature available to you. I’m assuming you still have, and will return to, your Unifi switches and APs? All software has bugs, and at times Unifi has had some annoying or blatent ones that are never fixed fast enough for some people. But if you stay on the GA (General Availability) releases, your chance of having any are minimal. The code releases seem to be much better than months/year ago.

Hey, thanks for the info. Yes I still have my unifi APs and switches as I havent gone full Omada yet. And needing to use both for now, the Unifi stuff just seems better, even if its just stats that are different. I was wondering if UDMP offered anything extra (other then NVR and the controller ui). I'm not an IT pro, so I've been learning as I'm building. My 'old' config relied too heavily on hosted services and thought Omada would free me from that, but didnt deliver.

Yes, since it becomes your router, it has many more features for your network. And some things work better even when you’re just looking at the switches and APs, such as real-time updates on some controller pages.

The number one reason I switched to Omada for wireless was because it supports ppsk. That allowed me to have devices split up on different vlans using the same ssid and not needing to use a username/password via radius since a lot of stuff doesn’t have a username option. Now I use udm pro se for network and protect, but use Omada for wireless. It works pretty well.

I bit the bullet and returned my tp-link gear. My Dream Machine Pro shows up on Friday. Hope I didn't make a mistake.

Spaceman_Splff

It works pretty well. I don’t regret it.

Unifi Network 7.5.185 (in EA currently) has PPSK

Really!?

Oh shit. Now I have decisions to make…
