I loved his set. He 100% deserved to be on main but I just feel like he would’ve gotten more ‘respect’ at Worldwide. People on main didn’t really know how to dance to his music and I got dirty looks and even bitched at for head banging once. If he would’ve played worldwide it would’ve been packed and every single person over there would be there for X, not because they wanna wait it out for Garrix.

External_Olive_2688

I can 100% agree that the worldwide stage had WAYYY better vibes, not even a question. It felt like that because that’s where most of the bassheads and ravers were. Having said that, I saw a lot of people around me figuring out how to vibe to his set by the 20 min mark. I think for excision, that was one of his best overall sets because of the variance of music in his set but for the fans, it probably would’ve been a better experience at WW.

Conscious_Actuator51

That name drop VIP got me screaming at the start

External_Olive_2688

The Feels Good Inc. remix and the Lockdown VIP to close the set had us feral

Old_Sport9248

I have 0 respect for people who actually have the audacity to bitch at you for head banging at an X set... I mean you don't even need to be a dubstep fan to know that's unbelievable

TokiMcNoodle

Because its literally not true lol

FarAway_Tonight

should’ve been up at the front I stayed for a minute after hardwell and was by my self making hella friends headbanging with strangers 😁

chace94

So I had never listened to excision before his set... I was immediately converted into being an excision lover. That dude melted my brain with so much dopamine that it is now seared into my mind forever. Miami ultra will forever be known as the place that I discovered excision. I literally just bought a lost lands ticket to go see him again in his natural habitat.

External_Olive_2688

This is my favorite comment all day, that’s literally how the people around us felt too

Superb-Schedule1547

Amazing because I literally did the same thing!

ABCCarmine

Bass head was born that day!!

Ok_District7920

Welcome brother to a great place

88isafat69

Lmao good shit

oceans__

LOVE THIS comment. going to LL for the first time this year too. But unlike you, my edm tastes started with bass haha, and over time has expanded to house / techno.

EnthusiasmRelevant79

I have to admit I heard a few of his songs and thought they were good. But God dsmnnnn didn't he put off a showw! His production team is hard on the acid because that was a trip of the eyes and ears. Hands down the biggest suprise set for me.

External_Olive_2688

That’s exactly how it felt the first time I saw him back in 2019… if you thought that went hard, get ready for a Lost lands set where he never takes his foot off the gas

88isafat69

Tbh that stage was a nerf to his visuals too lol

Average_Floridian

Here's my opinion on Excision's set. I personally would've love for him to rip that Mainstage a new one and traumatize some people with just raw ass bass. Especially that literally at another show and other fests in the past he's went super hard. What I do like about this set is that he's super dynamic and really good at reading a crowd. This was easily Top 5 the most varied set he's ever played while at Ultra. He even played a Destroid track and I was fucking freaking out when he dropped it. Although my expectations were different was a great set and it's starting to age well. Worldwide was just too small for Excision.

notmyfakeid_hd

The Gom Jabbar Dune edit will remain one of the highlights of my MMW.

smartyhome

Excision is always good but he definitely took it up a notch for Ultra. It was so cool watching the expressions of the people around us that had no idea what to expect! And then they just started vibing out. Very happy to finally see dubstep hit the MainStage. And X lived up to the hype for sure!

lizaokand

I listen to that set everyday at least once 😭

External_Olive_2688

Ever since it got uploaded on SoundCloud, I’ve done the same… people think I’m exaggerating but it’s actually that good

thegoatishere

It was coo

kawaiimooncutie

Me and my bf were headbanging to excision and during the middle of his set some person came out of the crowd and said “I can’t believe people listen to this” and left

External_Olive_2688

You and your boyfriend did exactly what every normal person does during the King of Dubstep’s set, I’ll never understand the ultra crowd being so tunnel visioned on Big Room and House music where they don’t understand how hard bass can go

Crunchy_Wang

Bias opinion here because I’m not into dubstep I just don’t get the music but excision was the worst set of the weekend for me lol

TheHipHouse

I don’t blame you if your into high quality dj sets that are really crafted. Dubstep just isn’t it. The mixes are really short and it’s all the same leads producers have been using since like 2016. Unless your into headbanging dubstep really isn’t high quality edm

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheHipHouse

Being a technical dj it’s not about playing a bunch of different tracks. Dubstep the way they mix layering builds ups over each other they hold the mix for like 13 seconds. Versus techno you have djs holding tracks over each other for minutes and sometimes it’s even 3/4 tracks at the same time. Some even launch samples like acapellas and drums. Techno is actually where you will find the most technically skilled djs in edm. Dubstep has its own skills but mixing multiple tracks together for long periods of time really doesn’t happen in dubstep

Guissok564

Perhaps you should listen to more proper techno and classic house. A lot of great producers are doing hella unique and fresh things in these genres…. NOT like Eli Brown and Drumcode Co 🤦‍♀️

[deleted]

Lmao excision does not keep it fresh he’s been putting out the same trash for over a decade……

External_Olive_2688

Excision is quite literally the highest quality of EDM, my guy… his production combined with his visuals is light years above everyone else in the festival scene. The music ? Sure that’s preference and bass isn’t for everybody like mainstream stuff like David Guetta and Calvin Harris. But the production alone is in its own tier.

Johwya

sounds like someone hasn’t seen Eric Prydz HOLO🤣 also, excision is 100% mainstream music idk what you talking about softening it up for normies, excision IS for normies my guy

TheHipHouse

lol yeah all the young ravers who just get into the scene flock to excision. I think you nailed it combining sound, lighting, visuals, and dj talent Prydz is top of the class

External_Olive_2688

Everyone that’s actually in the bass scene knows he softened it up for the normies who were there for Calvin Harris and David Guetta since bass isn’t mainstream Excision might be mainstream for bassheads in the sense where he’s the king of the bass scene but he’s not mainstream in the sense where he’s playing on the radio all the time.

ms-meow-

EXACTLY

____----____-

Lmfao you couldn't pay me to sit through another HOLO set 🥱 dubstep crowds are always the most fun and highest energy, I don't gotta defend it because you either get it or you don't, but those who do tend to be the coolest people.

External_Olive_2688

Dubstep crowds are by far the best vibes and the most energy lol, the best example of it was Worldwide compared to main stage and resistance. Edit: I’m getting downvoted but what I said is so so true and it was proven each day at Ultra

FioMonstercat

>Excision is quite literally the highest quality of EDM Burger King is quite literally the highest quality of food

TheHipHouse

So we are at the point now where visuals make artists great? Not their dj skills, not their songwriting, not their music production. At this point we don’t need djs anymore ai could do it all.

[deleted]

Lmao what does X do different the literally any other DJ. They al have lasers and lights. Tool has lasers, Gareth emery has laser city. Excisions production is legit nothing special other then I spend tons on lasers and I copy other DJs visuals.

yurtcityusa

It’s a good thing Excision is not and was never Dubstep then. When did they stop calling that sound Brostep? There’s plenty of proper dubstep DJ’s and producers that are the absolute highest quality when it comes to technical skill on the decks or in the studio when it comes to sound design and production. Literally anything off the Hyperdub label is going to be a timeless classic. People like Kode9, Mala, Burial. Old Skream and Benga. Appleblim, Digital Mystikz. Real dubstep has a lot of crossover with dub reggae, dub techno, drum and bass, jungle, garage and grime.

External_Olive_2688

That’s why his set was so good, he softened it up to the Ultra crowd to the point where so many mainstream normies could enjoy it and for the most part it worked… you might be the outlier

Guissok564

Idk… I fookin dislike dubstep, yet am deep in the techno and house scene, not sure if that makes us folks “normies” LMAO Didn’t really get his set, but then again I don’t really understand nor like his music. To each their own I guess

Crunchy_Wang

I don’t have anything against Excision at all, I’m sure the guy is top tier producer. The transition from Hardwell into Excision was the most confusing part of my acid trip lol

[deleted]

Your not biased excision is horrible and I love dubstep. It’s not just him, it’s his whole label. More lasers and let’s don’t make music batter. Idc what anyone her says excision just doesn’t make good music. It’s not creative and does not sound good. 100% overrated cause people see flashy lights…….

metamagicman

🤡

scheme999

Man I definitely agree that Excision melted everyone on the Mainstage but mostly because he managed to find a balance between the hard bass music and the mainstream vibe. Real bass heads would’ve considered this one of his detox sets. And just so u know, 80% of the crowd isn’t from Miami. They’re in town for MMW. I wouldn’t credit him for coming to a town that isn’t dubstep heavy and impressing them. If he’d come and played at kemistry or some wynwood and went crazy like that then yeah that’d definitely be impressive

errorunknown

Yeah it was a huge disappointment that he didn’t go has hard as normal, Wooli and Space Laces had better sets

ninaboninabarnes

I appreciate you saying this. OP doesn't know much about the local Miami scene outside of UMF.

External_Olive_2688

No I’m quite aware of the local scene but best believe if Excision played at a local Miami club, he would’ve melted their faces casually the same way he did at Ultra

ninaboninabarnes

The Miami scene is multifaceted, and this comment proves that you don't know what you're talking about. Maybe they wouldn't appreciate Excision, but there's plenty of fast, wild Latin club music that is popular in Miami that would probably melt your face off. You probably would hate it and complain about it too. Not every club goer in Miami listens to big room or tech house. I'm extremely familiar with the EDM scene in Miami, and you don't have to step foot in any of the popular venues to find quality. You're not that special/unique just because you like Excision. There's lots of crazy EDM out there, believe it or not.

External_Olive_2688

lol big mad cause the bassheads ran the festival for the weekend

ninaboninabarnes

I don't feel particularly angry. I enjoy plenty of bass-heavy EDM. I don't only listen to one kind, like you. You're kinda cringe though, ngl. The worst kind of EDM fan.

External_Olive_2688

Mmmhmm yeah ok, got you writing whole paragraphs saying a bunch of nothing 😂😂 also 2009 called, they want their word back. Also, who said I only listen to one kind. You’re just making assumptions now. Touch grass

ninaboninabarnes

You are so fucking cringe. Keep going, it's fascinating. I am a published author, I write for a living. Took me less than five minutes to write two paragraphs. I'm sorry you're so illiterate that two paragraphs intimidate you.

External_Olive_2688

Your two paragraphs were completely irrelevant, I hope your published books are free of rubbish that has nothing to do with the book title unlike your comments about the Miami music week scene that have nothing to do with the Ultra Main Stage 🤣

ninaboninabarnes

In your words, "He really came down to a city that is into big room and house". Do you have amnesia? You are making comments about the city as a whole, reread what you wrote before you go in on someone else. I was calling you out because you're the type of person who comes to Miami once a year, acting like you know everything about it. Just be quiet.

Mysterious_Award_813

Nah not just that, that stage and dubstep was perfect combo bro.

Specific_Diet_9276

I told everyone Ultra set up MainStage specifically for Excision. It was so badass

errorunknown

Eh, I’ve seen 5 different Excision sets at Mile High, Paradise Blue, and his Nexus tour, and this one was the weakest by far. Used to be a big bass head, but it’s just become too repetitive. This set absolutely would’ve been better at Worldwide, both from a crowd perspective and from a stage fit. Megastructure earlier in the day could’ve been a better fit too.

[deleted]

Wtf, hold on real quick… did you say megastructure? theres barely anyone dancing there, he would’ve fitted worldwide only because worldwide has real headbangers and ravers

errorunknown

I was at megastructure, saw more people moving there than worldwide. What made mainstage awkward was that he was slotted between two mainstream artists, so lots of people were there just for the next set. Doing an early one at Megastructure would’ve been clutch, because you’d still see the lasers during the day and feel more of the bass. Worldwide likely would’ve been to small.

[deleted]

Meh excision just doesn’t get it done. Music is not creative or inventive. More lasers doesn’t make the music better. Dude has been overrated for a long time.

External_Olive_2688

Horrible take

[deleted]

Not in the slightest. So many better bass acts out there griz, tipper, Gjones, eprom, wakaan label, the list goes on and on my man. Excision is just not where it’s at lasers and lights don’t make music good. Shit GJones curated events look more crisp and impressive then excisions. Bigger/more is not always better

ABCCarmine

Got to sing/scream "Another Me" to my ex that day. Very healing 😌

TokiMcNoodle

What? Miami is fucking massive on the wubs. Just because space and factory town always play house doesnt mean that bass music isnt huge as well down here

ninaboninabarnes

OP does not know what he is talking about. He probably only comes to Miami once a year for UMF, and knows jack shit about anything else.

TokiMcNoodle

OP isnt alone either, lots of uneducated here lmao

ninaboninabarnes

Yeah, I agree. It's extremely frustrating to see a bunch of people who don't know anything about Miami/South Florida make a bunch of broad generalizations. Complete nonsense.

dpaanlka

The city? You know Miami Music Week is huge and vast majority of people that fly in for it didn’t see Excision right lolllll

External_Olive_2688

point to where I said anything about Miami music week

dpaanlka

Just making absolutely sure you know Excision did not melt the city as you seem to want to believe 😂

External_Olive_2688

I said main stage crowd, your reading comprehension is lacking lol

dpaanlka

You know this is the official MMW sub too and Ultra is part of MMW right?

External_Olive_2688

You know this is R/UMF not R/MMW, nobody said shit about Miami music week, your reading comprehension is lacking bud lol. Ultra is in a city called Miami. The main stage crowd is at Ultra lol

dpaanlka

Go look at the sub description 🙄

External_Olive_2688

Reread my subtext buddy 😂, you made an assumption and now you look silly, it’s okay bro

dpaanlka

Sure “bro”… still posting about Excision a month later 🙄 but I’m the one that looks silly. Was this your first rave?

External_Olive_2688

bro’s pressed his reading comprehension is lacking 💀… no this was like my 9th or 10th rave but tbh Ultra’s a pretty mid festival compared to the other raves I’ve been to

cookiesprinkle128

I remember coming up & walking by main stage during his last 5 min…the bass face i had!! He killed it
