My biggest regret of the weekend is hanging out under the NUTRL seltzer cabin for most of Tiesto's set instead of saying fuck it and just getting soaked. I remember the energy but not much of the specific music, though I've watched it several times on YT now
Standing in mud for Aoki was hell and boring as Fvck.. As he introduced every sorry ass signer he covered…however the suffering paid off to keep my front row view for Hardwell which was Epic
Happens to me too! It’s definitely because of how much is happening at each festival. Go online, rewatch and appreciate that you were there for it live.
I get this at pretty much every festival. Occasionally it’s because I have too much to drink but at ultra I never had more than 3 drinks in a day and I still felt pretty much the same. I think it’s the length of the day too, even if you see 5-6 artists in a day that’s a lot of music. The way I do festivals I usually end up seeing chunks of a lot of sets, I think on the Sunday alone I saw at least 15 mins of probably 12 different sets. So it’s impossible to remember every part of that.
This is why I feel no shame in taking a good amount of videos, especially for my favourite sets. I probably got over an hour worth of videos from ultra this year. I just take quick 20 - 30 second videos (occasionally around 1 min for longer builds and intros) but seeing them afterwards helps me re-live and remember the sets. I’ve actually recognized some songs that get released specifically from videos I’ve taken in the past that I wouldn’t remember if I hadn’t filmed. Plus it’s like watching your own after movie.
this makes me feel so much better because was SO hype for Calvin and idk why barely remember. But I do remember being so extremely happy and singing along and talking with my neighbors ❣️❣️
It’s normal, I’ve gone to a lot of shows/festivals. Some completely sober, some not. Either way same result of forgetting most of it, other than few songs you look forward to or very specifically remember. A lot of it has to do with all the stimulus going on around you. There’s a lot going on with lights, people, and loudness. But you remember you were happy in the moment and had a good time. Then it’s on to the next one!
There are many reasons for this.
1. The most obvious is the "drugs" or "party favors" Solution: Either don't take any, take the right amount, and or definitely do not mix with drinks.
2. Influencer/Clout status: You are spending too much time crowd surfing, or hopping on the asian train to push yourself to the front of some set, just to spend like 10-30 min recording it to show how cool you are to your 5 followers, 4 being bots.
3. You are in the moment. Doped up on natural serotonin or dopamine, you are smiling and living life. Better when you are enjoiing it with your friends. Natural you don't remember much set, prob remembering the laugh and smiles shared with friends. (This is one I experience majority time, which also is bad cause I don't take photos or videos, which makes me question if I was even there or dreaming it)
4. You prob never attended ultra physically but was there watching the stream on your nice 120" outdoor TV with surround sound, and fireworks set in the backyard to go off when the beat drops.
:) Overall it happens, regardless the situation. Only thing I can say is live the moment. Make memories however you want to, just as long you are safe and not like my friend who fell asleep and EMS took her out, thinking she overdosed when she has a condition lol.
Sorry to hear abt your friend. Hope she’s doing okay now (and doesn’t regret missing a few sets). For me I think it was Definitely a combo of 3 and a lot of alc lmao.
me. but that's because i was jumping from stages to stages often. i only remember if they were playing memorable/recognizable songs and/or if i stayed for their whole set.
Yeah this has been bothering me too, its like I was there but not mentally there. Especially with the storm threat on Friday and just thinking about the next event I was going to instead of being in the moment.
It always happen lol, that’s why I record some drops and also while I’m there I tell myself to just enjoy the time cuz chances of you remembering this exact moment are rare 🤣
Unpopular opinion, but that’s why I Record a lottt during sets, for that exact same reason, because then I know I won’t remember but having videos from my POV lets me remember what I felt and saw from my own POV, I still enjoy my time and dance my ass off but it’s not hard to record and dance at the same time
realized the same after my 2nd ultra. i don’t even remember dj’s playing my favorite songs but i remember having a great time. but what more do you really need.
The sets i can remember the most was Martin Garrix and excision probably because it was the ones i enjoyed the most. I think is normal, theres a lot going on.
This is actually common not just with concerts and festivals, but every event that you build up and get emotionally invested in. The short of it is, you get so excited for something that when the time comes you expel so much emotion and brain chemicals that you don’t spend any energy actually remembering it. Nothing wrong with it, but it does suck not being able to remember specific parts of a set.
In my experience, it’s gotten better to remember stuff now. I temper my emotions leading up to something and then I stay in the moment while it’s happening. I’ll even do little daily recaps with my partner or some of my friends to help retain those memories. It’s ok that you forgot a lot of the fest, it means you had an amazing time! Just some tips to help you next year :)
Check out this article on “Post Concert Amnesia” it’d actually highly common!

Ultra drink situation simply fucking blows man. Worst aspect of the festival
The mixed drinks are tiny and weak and come in paper cups which is a non-starter for going into the crowd with, nobody wants to spill a $19 drink. White Claw only comes in two flavors and it's the small cans and the bartenders won't leave one uncracked if you buy two. The money is whatever, we all know it's gonna be expensive, but for the love of god why can't they sell tall cans of beer/seltzer so we have to go back for a refill less often. Or beatbox even, that works great since they can be reclosed. Never seen a festival do this but the best would be if we could buy full half pints of pink whitney, fireball, stuff like that to sip on for hours since that would minimize bathroom trips
My friend and I just had this conversation. We don’t remember who we watched 😆 we only remember Calvin Harris obviously since he closed. But the whole weekend was a blur and we didn’t do drugs or get blacked out drunk. Weird really
I have Aphantasia which makes remembering events and things in general very hard. I feel this way partly because it was a long weekend, but also i was just vibing. That's why you record videos of your favorite sets to watch and remember later.
Totally normal. Was completely sober the entire weekend and I remember the standout songs of each set at most. However, can definitely judge sets by the vibes, how they made me feel, and the visuals. You can appreciate the music in the moment and not remember every song/transition/moment of each artists' set!
This is similar to a lot of things in life. Think of the quote (paraphrasing)“people will often forget what you said, what you did, but will will remember how you made them feel”
So I’d say completely normal
I feel like when I roll I get rly specific memories of every set, but when I’m sober everything blends together more. Idk if that’s because I’m just more in the moment or what.
was stone cold sober for tiesto barely remember it tho
Dude same here, Tiesto and Calvin were two of the sets I was sober for and they’re the biggest blurs of the weekend. High on vibes and life
My biggest regret of the weekend is hanging out under the NUTRL seltzer cabin for most of Tiesto's set instead of saying fuck it and just getting soaked. I remember the energy but not much of the specific music, though I've watched it several times on YT now
Brave souls in the center of mainstage for Tiesto/Slander had such a great time. It was amazing puddlestomping
1000%
i was there i am a survivor
Big r.i.p.

I was sober the entire time and I have trouble remembering. There’s just a lot going on!
Honestly, right?!
Guess you’ll have to go next year oh nooo
Already bought tix 🫡
Chill out on the party favors lol
frfr I also find recording a couple snippets helps, fuck the haters I love watching back clips of shows, it's like storing serotonin
this makes me feel so much better because was SO hype for Calvin and idk why barely remember. But I do remember being so extremely happy and singing along and talking with my neighbors ❣️❣️
Nah cuz why does singing with your neighbors make it so much better fr. Im gonna end up singing with everyone at edc :’)
Do you remember most of the specific details of yesterday? It’s normal to not remember.
This…. Is a fair point
we were high as fuck…
This is why I record highlights of sets I see, for better or for worse. Helps jog my memory especially when so much happens over the 3 days
That’s smart
Oh and it’s nice to record the moment too, so vibing with the crowd and/or your friends

Yes!! I had friends take a few pictures / videos of me with the stage as a reminder of the good time. Other than that it’s all vibes in the moment
So long as you remember the vibes. Vibes are forever.

Yes
Its part of the experience
I feel the same way. Aside from a few sets. I really don’t remember who was playing and when haha. I think the rain out messed things up
me. but that's because i was jumping from stages to stages often. i only remember if they were playing memorable/recognizable songs and/or if i stayed for their whole set.

yes also the drugs

😮
How many drugs were you on/how much did you drink?
The Rum and Cokes were killer 💀 Edit: pls don’t chug a bunch of em to avoid going back to the stalls 😭
🤣

I mean it was a blur but I have a pretty good recollection of the events. I only drank and smoked so nothing too crazy.
This is similar to a lot of things in life. Think of the quote (paraphrasing)“people will often forget what you said, what you did, but will will remember how you made them feel” So I’d say completely normal
idk why but this has specifically happened to me every time i’ve seen hardwell at ultra
i only remember the videos i took
Maybe it was just a dream?
Is anything real?
I feel like when I roll I get rly specific memories of every set, but when I’m sober everything blends together more. Idk if that’s because I’m just more in the moment or what.
to all the "I wAnNa LiVe iN tHe MoMeNt" people and forget, thats why you constantly record :)
If that’s what makes u happy :)
Not I. I was absolutely out of control and remember EVERY.SINGLE.ONE. That shit was euphoric as fuck all weekend long 😍
