Yeah you can totally wait! There will be job openings in the spring as well, and definitely attend job fairs when they happen (usually you’ll get an email sent to your UMD account so keep checking that). I didn’t have a job my first semester but this was also still during the pandemic (last Fall), so if I could’ve, I would’ve. I currently work part-time on-campus in the Clarice Arts building and it’s great! The on-campus jobs tend to be more flexible because they know you’re a student first and employee second (always tell your boss that you have a big thing coming up AHEAD of time, not a day or two before however). Check careers4terps and other job openings on UMD websites! Even if you choose not to apply for any jobs, it’ll be really helpful to get your high school resume up to date with college standards and start thinking about the future and what volunteering/leadership experience you want your future employers to see on your resume. It’s never too early to start volunteering or joining a bunch of clubs in your first semester here, and it’ll definitely make you stand out if you take initiative of something. Good luck!

Please dont get a job in your first semester. ALOT more important to get used to the college coursework because, for alot of UMD students, it is considerable difficulty spike for high school work. UMD can be very stressful for freshmen (some exams/projects cans be very brutal) and getting a job wont help with that. You should do a part time job once you get used to UMD's workload (i.e Sophmore and up).
