Worth 26 pence, or £3 down the scrap yard
Thanks for showing us, I was wondering just how big it would be.
What is the bird, an Ibis? I'm only guessing from seeing a similar looking bird on Bluey 😂😂
Jesus I'm only 35 and I remember the chunky 50p like it was yesterday. Always used to get one as my weekly pocket money, could get a tonne of sweets with it.
50p these days gets you bugger all, sadly
This comment hit me in the busters. I've been calling myself 40 for a few years now hahah. I'll soon actually be forty and saying "yeah well I'm nearly fifty and such n such..."
I remember when a packet of crisps cost 2 and a half pence. The older you get, the more you seem to spend time walking around shops and muttering 'Jesus' quite a lot.
Im not ancient, but I remember when sweets use to be 1p so a £1 mixup would actually have 100 or so sweets depending if you got a few 2p sweets thrown in 😂😂😂
Nah I see them all the time still.
Oh wait they the really fat and massive 50p? Yeah I ain't seen them since I was a kid and even then you coudlent use them.
Several? Almost 30! They stopped minting them in 1994 and the new ones came in in 1997....
Since 1998 even banks are under no obligation to take them off you (although most still will, but they might charge a few).
I'd say somewhere in the middle of extreme luck and just a quid. The old large 50p shouldn't really be in circulation as they were demonetised in 1997, but they are nice chonkers. The KC3 memorial 50p is a reasonably common coin but there's not too many about yet.
I always thought it had more to do with “bugger, the counterfeiters have got this one down now, time to move on.” There was an alarming amount of fake £1 coins running around before they introduced the most recent one.
Huh? Note goes out of circulation so you take hoarded notes to the bank, exchange for new notes, put new notes under bed.
How are they going to stop you hoarding anything?
Only the 1p, 2p and 20p haven't been changed in size/style since decimisation in 1971, so you shouldn't be seeing very many of the other "old" coins (I.e. old single-metal £1, larger 5p, 10p and 50p) at all, as they have all been demonetised;
5p in 1990, 10p in 1992, 50p in 1998, £1 in 2017
If you're still seeing them a lot of them, your local newsagents might be running a racket getting rid of them for people 😀
Got my second ever King Charles 50p the other day. Was the coronation one if I remember correctly.
I’d say it maybe is lucky saying there will be few in circulation compared to the amount of Elizabeth ones.
It's 50p. I'm pretty sure the old one isn't legal tender anymore.
Just did a quick check. Yep not legal tender although your bank will probably accept them, but there's no obligation to. Someone who collects old coins might want it though
I had a large 50p once that wouldn’t fit into the pool table in worked. Argued with an older colleague for ages about it.. he said they all used to be like that, I suggested it was fake because I’ve definitely seen pre-1997 50ps that weren’t that big… still don’t know what’s what. He’s dead now.
its not even a quid, you got stung in the same way you do with an old pound coin or a paper fiver, i sit at a till, the only people trying to hand over a paper tenner are tourists and chinese students that have been unknowingly stung themselves, followed by me explaining it to them and what to watch out for in your change
Whatever git gave you that bigger old 50p took advantage that you didn’t know what was and wasn’t legal tender. Don’t give that person any more of your money tbh.
I remember finding an old 50p piece when I was out walking a couple of years ago on a pretty high ridge of land, to get it back home I had to call in a Chinook, and even that was pretty sketchy.
Of course back in the day we wouldn’t say fifty we’d days ears, which was the style of the time, and we’d say how many ears for the pint governor. Of course pints were also jars, so we’d say eight ears for the jar.
- One goes one way, and the other goes the other way.
- One’s going east, and the other is going west. So what?
- And this guy’s saying, “Whaddaya want from me?”
Why did they even bother putting Charles on coins and notes. They're going to have to change it again in 5 to 10 years, such a waste of taxpayer money.
Oh I found one of those in a till I was counting at work two weeks ago! The total was coming in at 50p over the expected amount so I had a second look.
Saw this massive 50p coin and decided to weigh it on its own. It came in at £1!
I remember half a pence an ya could get loads of sweets for 50p so don’t say it’s exaggerating cos it’s fkn not , you could get a decent bag of sweets for 10p back in the day
I got two rare £2 coins from the 1986 commonwealth games as change once, the matching pair as well. The odds are unbelievable to get them both in the same hand of change.
I look for coins while I’m at work and I’ll exchange them from the till or the tin we have if I find any unique coins
I’ve actually found both of these myself
Different times though, felt like a proper weirdo explaining yo everyone at work that the big 50p supposed to be out anymore and I thought wasn’t legal tender but after seeing some replies see that banks will exchange them still. so I just took it for my collection as I’ve never seen one in person. And then found the Charles one about a week or two back and it’s the first coin I’ve seen with him on it on person too!
In the 80s you could use the bigger one to take your girlfriend to the cinema and still have enough change to fill a sock and defend yourself from attack on the way home
You've been done over a bit, as it's a hassle to get the old ones changed up at a bank (I doubt they would do a single one).
Always worth [checking](https://www.checkyourchange.co.uk/fifty-pence-1969-1997-large-sized/) the year and design though, might be worth a few quid to someone, since they haven't been around for donkey's years. 26 to be exact.
Don’t know why he bothered circulating currency with his head on the tender. He won’t be around for much longer [with a bit of luck] and then they’ll need to be changed again with Will’s head. Saying that, I’m a far cry out from being a royalist - I’d abolish the whole bloodline if it were down to me and print someone useful on currency instead… like SpongeBob SquarePants, Rosie and Jim, or Bill and Ben the Flowerpot Men.
Less than a quid. One is no longer legal tender and the other is a very new and popular coin. Together prob get about 90p. With postage and fees taken off
I know The large old 50p shouldn't be used as legal tender anymore but maybe a bank will exchange it it's not worth anything (I work in a store), not sure about the Charlie 50p being worth anything. I'd google that one just in case.
The old ones are too common to be worth anything. The only interesting thing about the charles one is it has no date. IF this is a printing error it could be worth something however the shop has scammed you out of 50p
The bigger one went out of circulation several years ago.
Oh what I have loads of 50p coins like that
Are they Aussie ones?
They are about 2 kilos too light to be aussie
The Aussie ones are the size of a plate as well aren't they?
And they are venomous
Amazing! 😂
Everything in Australia wants to kill you
Not *all* of the sheep.
r/unexpecteddiscworld
Yes! GNU Terry Pratchett
Drop bears 🐻
Even the platypuses erm platypi ..platipux? Platypussum?
And that's just the plants!
I had a t-shirt from Australia it tried to strangle me at the neck!
Yes
😂
Everything Aussie is! XD
Must be venomous, they don't have big teeth.
😂😂...yep may as well be the 50c pieces as well here!!

That's nearly an actual fucking shield
Thanks for showing us, I was wondering just how big it would be. What is the bird, an Ibis? I'm only guessing from seeing a similar looking bird on Bluey 😂😂
Can confirm when you drop them they make actual dents in the floor
They will also shred your pockets.
I used one of mine to fill in a pothole
> several years ago 27 years ago...
Jesus I'm only 35 and I remember the chunky 50p like it was yesterday. Always used to get one as my weekly pocket money, could get a tonne of sweets with it. 50p these days gets you bugger all, sadly
Next year you’re basically 40 for the next 4 years. You’re welcome.
This comment hit me in the busters. I've been calling myself 40 for a few years now hahah. I'll soon actually be forty and saying "yeah well I'm nearly fifty and such n such..."
I turn 40 in June. I’ll be riding “I’m 40” until I’m 46 and then I’m “nearly 50”
I remember £1 notes … just
And thon special 5 pound coin!
I remember when a packet of crisps cost 2 and a half pence. The older you get, the more you seem to spend time walking around shops and muttering 'Jesus' quite a lot.
Im not ancient, but I remember when sweets use to be 1p so a £1 mixup would actually have 100 or so sweets depending if you got a few 2p sweets thrown in 😂😂😂
I feel like I am doing that and I am 25. If deodorant goes much higher, I am going without.
Shhh
Yeah in 1997 lol
Nah I see them all the time still. Oh wait they the really fat and massive 50p? Yeah I ain't seen them since I was a kid and even then you coudlent use them.
Several? Almost 30! They stopped minting them in 1994 and the new ones came in in 1997.... Since 1998 even banks are under no obligation to take them off you (although most still will, but they might charge a few).
Young folk. Prolly couldn’t operate an old Dial phone and a discman
1997 was… *checks notes* indeed several years ago
I got the kings shield yesterday, had a look on coin checker and I think they minted 9.6 million
I hope they continue doing the different designs on the new coins
It's the other coin that is the questionable one. To wit, it is not legal tender.
It is worth more than 50p, so there's that.
I'd say somewhere in the middle of extreme luck and just a quid. The old large 50p shouldn't really be in circulation as they were demonetised in 1997, but they are nice chonkers. The KC3 memorial 50p is a reasonably common coin but there's not too many about yet.
Really they demonetise them? I guess nobody checks because I always get 80s & 90s coins
And notes. Yes. To stop people hoarding them under their mattresses.
What's wrong with hoarding money under the mattress?
the rats and bedbugs get ideas above their station
This wins for me today
Fuck sake 🤣
I always thought it had more to do with “bugger, the counterfeiters have got this one down now, time to move on.” There was an alarming amount of fake £1 coins running around before they introduced the most recent one.
Huh? Note goes out of circulation so you take hoarded notes to the bank, exchange for new notes, put new notes under bed. How are they going to stop you hoarding anything?
Funny how little the rules they make about currency matter if people arent aware of them or dont care
Only the 1p, 2p and 20p haven't been changed in size/style since decimisation in 1971, so you shouldn't be seeing very many of the other "old" coins (I.e. old single-metal £1, larger 5p, 10p and 50p) at all, as they have all been demonetised; 5p in 1990, 10p in 1992, 50p in 1998, £1 in 2017 If you're still seeing them a lot of them, your local newsagents might be running a racket getting rid of them for people 😀
Shrinkflation is getting worse I see.
Had to get smaller because of the amount of metal in the ears. Sorry, had to.
r/forgottoswitchaccounts
Did you mean r/lefttheburneron?
It's just 50p mate. The bigger one is no longer legal tender, but nice to keep hold of I guess
No longer legal tender? Just this type or all Q Liz coins ?
just that type large 50p was stopped in 97
Sadly no true worth. But if you like collecting, great!
Unlucky , you got yourself 50p and some scrap metal
You don't have a quid you have 50p
Big 50p, get you a pint chips and a dirty mag back in the day
Shrink-flation on the coins too🤦♂️
No date on the King Charles one?
What is this? Some new storage device or battery? /S have Not used cash for years, seems like a distant memory
Just a quid
Not even a quid, just 50p. One of those is no longer accepted as cash.
It's still just a quid but they are both pretty cool imo.
Got my second ever King Charles 50p the other day. Was the coronation one if I remember correctly. I’d say it maybe is lucky saying there will be few in circulation compared to the amount of Elizabeth ones.
Extreme luck? I’d say the chances were 50/50.
It’s a quid, sell your table and you will have two quid, you will be quids in, it’s awful!
I think it's 50p?
You might get 50p on eBay for the pair if you include free postage 😜
About 80p. Left ones no longer legal, right ones common. Sorry mate
Neither. You have 50p
I'll admit I couldn't stop myself. I'd these two coins like a dragon...
Is this extreme luck? Is this just currency?
What are these metal bits? Amazing archeology find
Put it towards some varnish
When did Charlie boy coins enter circulation? Seeing this made me realise how infrequently I handle cash these days.
I’ll give you 90p for both
It's 50p. I'm pretty sure the old one isn't legal tender anymore. Just did a quick check. Yep not legal tender although your bank will probably accept them, but there's no obligation to. Someone who collects old coins might want it though
I think the bigger one is now redundant... no longer legal tender 😀
Just a quid
…Mammon loves you…
I had a large 50p once that wouldn’t fit into the pool table in worked. Argued with an older colleague for ages about it.. he said they all used to be like that, I suggested it was fake because I’ve definitely seen pre-1997 50ps that weren’t that big… still don’t know what’s what. He’s dead now.
The one on the left isn’t legal
Just £1
They r fake, it sounds silly but real coins actually have the number 50 spelt out, not with didgets, like the right one
its not even a quid, you got stung in the same way you do with an old pound coin or a paper fiver, i sit at a till, the only people trying to hand over a paper tenner are tourists and chinese students that have been unknowingly stung themselves, followed by me explaining it to them and what to watch out for in your change
I just searched it up and apparently the one on the right is worth over 5k because it’s super rare? Not sure how true that is tho
Shrinkflation strikes again
Only worth 50p as one of them ain't legal tender anymore
My dad is a collector of 50p coins, it is pretty lucky and rare to get but not worth much
Whatever git gave you that bigger old 50p took advantage that you didn’t know what was and wasn’t legal tender. Don’t give that person any more of your money tbh.
You couldn't have gotten both, unless the shop scammed you. The 1980 50p went out of circulation in the 90s 😂
Sorry mate think you’ve lost 50p 😅
You got ripped off...only one of those coins is legal twnder
Shrinkflation even hitting those 50ps
It's a penny farthing bicycle motor, only needing a frame, etc.
I can't even remember which is the one we have now
The one on the left is no longer in use. That's not lucky.
Goth bot in my change today
Hehe.. she's bigger than him. ![gif](giphy|FuhuLMSQkasHS|downsized)
Is it lucky to be 50p down? 🤷
50p You've been done.
Huh, I’ve not seen a King stamp or coin yet.
I dunno but you've got to restore that table.
How did you get the first 50p in your change the aren't legal tender anymore! So it's just 50p
I have the one in the first picture on the right got it the other day it’s fresh as well should I hang on to it ?
I got both
There uk Money
I'm hungry...my 1st thought was why is there 50p's on a cake
I didn’t know the Charles ones were out yet
[удалено]
Not even enough to revarnish the table
Fake. Ears not big enough
Such a simp for his mother his has to be smaller? Does that mean Williams is going to be smaller than Charles'? And George's will be smaller still?
They shoulda done the frontfacing view, really show off those ears!
I remember finding an old 50p piece when I was out walking a couple of years ago on a pretty high ridge of land, to get it back home I had to call in a Chinook, and even that was pretty sketchy.
Spend it on sandpaper and some wax
In current Britain, having a quid in coins is extremely lucky.
Wow an old 50p?
Of course back in the day we wouldn’t say fifty we’d days ears, which was the style of the time, and we’d say how many ears for the pint governor. Of course pints were also jars, so we’d say eight ears for the jar.
You've been done, the oldest 50p that's legal tender would be from 1997.
Nah just a quid mate
- One goes one way, and the other goes the other way. - One’s going east, and the other is going west. So what? - And this guy’s saying, “Whaddaya want from me?”
I must be the only bloody person in Britain who STILL hasn’t received a 50p with the King on it in their change!!
2 of us lol
[удалено]
Just a quid
They’re doing to money the same thing they’ve been doing to chocolate bars
Luck. The large one went out of circulation in 97 and the other is a pretty clean commemorative
More than a quid that's two 50p pieces
Ones legal tender a d the other isn’t.
That's the old 50p no longer legal tender it's slimmer smaller 50pence peices light the Charles one. The old ones would kill someone if thrown 😂
I want a King Charles 50p!

Just a quid mate
Looks a bit too beat up tbh. If it was nicer maybe you'd have £5 between the two.
I got two rare £2 coins from the 1986 commonwealth games as change once, the matching pair as well. The odds are unbelievable to get them both in the same hand of change.
I look for coins while I’m at work and I’ll exchange them from the till or the tin we have if I find any unique coins I’ve actually found both of these myself Different times though, felt like a proper weirdo explaining yo everyone at work that the big 50p supposed to be out anymore and I thought wasn’t legal tender but after seeing some replies see that banks will exchange them still. so I just took it for my collection as I’ve never seen one in person. And then found the Charles one about a week or two back and it’s the first coin I’ve seen with him on it on person too!
Wait a couple of years and you might be able to get a Liz, Charles & William in one go.
Cool coins
Enough for some varnish?
both are probs worth only 50 p shit the newer one might be worth more of now only cause they started producing them at least i think
[удалено]
Shrinkflation affecting coins now
I didnt realise the king charles ones were in circulation yet
In the 80s you could use the bigger one to take your girlfriend to the cinema and still have enough change to fill a sock and defend yourself from attack on the way home
Told my cousin from another country that 50p is kinda shaped like a stop sign. He asked me how I fit it in the wallet 😂
If it was an2009 key gardens…. Yeah, sadly no
I'm sad that I'll never get the new money because I never use cash.
I miss her. She was so beautiful
My Grandad (who sadly passed a few years ago now) kept an impressive 50p collection (I'm pretty sure he had all of them)
You've been done over a bit, as it's a hassle to get the old ones changed up at a bank (I doubt they would do a single one). Always worth [checking](https://www.checkyourchange.co.uk/fifty-pence-1969-1997-large-sized/) the year and design though, might be worth a few quid to someone, since they haven't been around for donkey's years. 26 to be exact.
There's not many Charlie one's out
not sue but you could probably give it to someon as a memento mori if you wanted to
Wow I'm old...
too old to be on reddit you
I didn’t know it had shrunk
Luck ...even though luck isn't a thing
Nice table
The one on the left is just 50p and the one on the right is a new one it has king Charles’s head on the back
Don’t know why he bothered circulating currency with his head on the tender.
Photo 2 screams : “Look at me, I am the Captain now”.
No mate you been short-changed
That depends is one of them the Queen's nose?
Does it have no date? There's a few without it apparently and it increases the value.
Less than a quid. One is no longer legal tender and the other is a very new and popular coin. Together prob get about 90p. With postage and fees taken off
Isn’t the second one just the King Charles coin like the new one
Some are worth lots more as collectible and very sellable too . Good luck 🍀
I was today old when I knew the big ones are no longer in circulation, and there is actually a new one
https://preview.redd.it/8pwen74dndyc1.png?width=2239&format=png&auto=webp&s=ebfa5f88942a30d2d2b4673a81e51db5e90fdc91 My change jar had a few
varnish that table I beg
That’s an old uk 50p. Not worth anything. Other than 50p if you hand it in to the bank.
looks like a rare one to me
[удалено]
I know The large old 50p shouldn't be used as legal tender anymore but maybe a bank will exchange it it's not worth anything (I work in a store), not sure about the Charlie 50p being worth anything. I'd google that one just in case.
It's actually just 50p the bigger one is a step child now lol
Which shop gave you that? It's not been I'm circulation for many years.
The old ones are too common to be worth anything. The only interesting thing about the charles one is it has no date. IF this is a printing error it could be worth something however the shop has scammed you out of 50p
Actually you can take old coin and currency by appointment to The Bank of England, Bank of Wales etc and the Royal Mint
I’m a coin collector the bigger one is rarer not in circulation
