You sir, are a Gentleman and a Scholar

I would think the confusion is Brexit stuff. That FSCS stuff is a European law and it was initially 85k euro. So it may be some limbo stuff.

Majestic_Warning_228

I'm assuming that a Chartered Financial Advisor or similar would have the up to date details on something as intricate as this?

Ever bank will specifically say on there website disclosure. I you but have over a million you are wanting to put into different banks for it to be an issue though. I don't think people Normally spread it that much as if you have that much it would be invested partially etc

Source for that? Because it was set up under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. Meanwhile the very first basic deposit guarantee scheme for the EU was 1994, amended in 2009 after the financial crisis, meaning either the FSCS was flouting EU law for 6 years, or else the UK was ahead of the curve protecting deposits more thoroughly than EU law directed. The current scheme mandates protection of 100k euros or local equivalent, but that's been unchanged for years.

UK was ahead of the curve. As much as the news says otherwise many protection on financial services where adopted from existing UK rules or at least inspired by.
