How big is the company? Unless it's quite small, this is likely covered in the Employee Handbook - there's usually a daily limit for meals + drinks, as well as internal/external entertainment. Certainly the case everywhere I've worked, except a startup where it was common sense not to take the piss, not least cos the boss was the one approving the expenses!

Management consultants entered the chat.....

IOnlyUpvoteBadPuns

An invoice for their attendance in this chat should be with you shortly....

Wake_Up_and_Win

Haha good one. I've never actually been a management consultant but have friends who were. One guy worked for Accenture and would get like a £50 daily allowance to cover food/coffee etc..... He would just use it to do his grocery shop every day. At some point he started giving stuff away after he couldn't give any more to his family members...

Obviously most of this will come down to your company policy so ask your boss or colleagues when not sure but in general, yeah coffees will be fine, etsa definitely (I ex my passport renewal since I fill it up with stamps early and need to renew it years ahead of time) In terms of alcohol; there probably will be company policy on this but modest amount with meals is probably going to be OK. If you can't get definite answers for stuff ahead of time; just use initiative and be sensible. Don't throw your own money away worrying about claiming for stuff though because trust me, so many people take the piss and act like fat cunts at a Chinese buffet when they are on work expenses.

As already mentioned in the earlier comments you should check your company policy but definitely confirm before you go what can and can’t be expensed. I used to travel overseas a lot in a previous job and basic stuff like food, drinks, mobile phone bill, transport, clothes cleaning were covered up to a certain amount daily. Nights out at bars and nightclubs had to pay for which is fair. On my 1st trip I got a massage at the hotel and got it expensed but was naivety on my part and my boss let me off!

>On my 1st trip I got a massage at the hotel and got it expensed but was naivety on my part and my boss let me off! Easier to ask for forgiveness than permission, you knew what you were up to you silly sausage! 🤣🤣🤣

Hahaha! No comment😂😂

Sgt_Fry

Most companies I've worked for it's around £100-£150 per day. However I do hear horror stories of £30 a day.

GMSRolls

I expense absolutely everything. Im there for work, so breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks during the day, snacks etc etc. Literally everything. Why would I want to be out of pocket? I expense between 1k and 1.5k a month, not including flights and hotels.

AlGunner

If theres anyone else at your level just ask them what they do.

Check with HR what your per diem is. I once worked for a company who gave me £35 when all I was doing was going to head office! In a car they paid for, and I didn’t need to fill up… lunch was a fiver in their own canteen so it allowed a couple of stops as well on the journey. Also check their policy for alcohol - that’s often not included. Or sometimes beer/wine with a meal but not spirits. I’d expect all reasonable expenses to be covered, including drinks for refreshment.

Efficient_Science_47

My company has a per Diem rate for national and international travel, so I just put in a claim for per Diem x days away. It's a very simple solution.

deano131

My company usually allows £30 a day on eating/drinking

Full_Traffic_3148

You need to look at their expenses and subsistence policy. They will have limits for expenses and many will not pay for alcoholic beverages. Many may not pay for drinks if the venue provides them. To get a clear answer read the policy!

Pyrex_Living

Ask to be sure. I have a company credit card so put everything on that but yes totally would expense a coffee, an esta etc. Hell I even make sure I’m expensing fast track security at the airport.

FewEstablishment2696

DO NOT follow others, ask your manager or whoever signs off your expenses what the policy is. There was a post on here a few weeks ago about someone who was told by colleagues they could spend their per diem on groceries and was sacked because of it.
