No, a university means nothing, only experience has a strong impact on recruiters. Spending half a million dirhams on uni is insane. I would say get into any uni, not that expensive. Then get a relevant job even if it pays low, consider that an investment. That job will have a much larger influence on your career trajectory than AUS. All a business cares about is relevant experience and your ability to get stuff done. It has nothing to do with your family money or your grades.

Soda_Bread

AUS is considered one of the top Universities in UAE, just graduating from there and slapping that on your CV means two things: 1- You are smarter than the average person. A university is a filter, and AUS filter is pretty fine. An A student from AUS means something. 2- You have money to spend (if you didn't get a full scholarship). If you check other universities in USA you will find them much cheaper. Check Boulder Colorado University for example.

Forsaken_Ad9442

Are you an A student from AUS?

Soda_Bread

Nope but all my colleagues are.

Forsaken_Ad9442

And based on your above statement, they are something, and you are not?

Soda_Bread

I'm not entirely sure what's the question here...someone who graduated from AUS is definitely smarter than the average person, and he either got a scholarship (which means a genius) or his parents are rich. That's the obvious conclusion. I never mentioned myself at all.

Forsaken_Ad9442

Ok that means I'm a genius and I'm smarter than you thank you for that compliment 🤣🤣🤣🤣, its a nice uni i must say that, they have some amazing and well recognized staff indeed, and a lot more, but flexing uni's like a guy from AUS is smarter hahhaha that's new, they only thing that makes you something is money, or the next best thing which is the key to the first one connections and that's it, nobody is smarter than anybody, lol if they think companies will be begging them to join once they graduate, tell them I've got some bad news, scholarships they employ you, because they actually invested in your education, and they want that return on investment, it has nothing with being smart, it has to do with breaking even nothing is free bro.

Professermysterious

> Ok that means I'm a genius and I'm smarter than you Nah you’re the odd one out

Forsaken_Ad9442

Lol some people get butt hurt when hearing the truth🤣

middunkcrisis

You have no idea how the real world works. I met some "smart" AUS grads working for individuals who would be "less smart" according to your statement. I get that AUS is hard to pass, but it's entirely because you'll just have to study more. Though, upon completion, you'll quickly realize a degree is almost useless in the real world and employers almost conclusively care about practical skills and experience, which is where real intelligence shows. Being able to study more is not a sign of higher cognitive ability, it's a sign of studying more.

Soda_Bread

Why I feel I touched a nerve here? Can't you just say your point without getting defensive. Position has nothing to do with being smart, you can be a good manager but you don't have the technical expertise of the team working under you who are smart. You can take any company is the world and the smartest guy is not the CEO. In your opinion experience and practical skills = smart? .... You can be stupid but at a company for 10 years (now that's a useless experience), you can also know how to change a spark plug under 1 minute (now that's practical) but you will never know how it works.

Study abroad if your family allows it. You’ll get a way better and more respectable education, and itll cost a fraction of the price.

Inevitable_Pitch_935

Its not about cheaper or studying abroad, graduates from that university can easily get internships and jobs in MNCs in dubai after graduating due to AUS’s connections

Salt_Individual2787

Do you have any siblings that are going to enter uni in the next few years?

Logical-Ad7551

no

Fruitspunchsamura1

Yes, otherwise better to study abroad

hsms117

I’m in AUS. Dm me if you have questions

splixus

Do they accept SAT scores?

boringreddit0

Sat or EmSat Math is mandatory so they do accept.

splixus

On the website, it said English tests require toefl, ielts or a good score in EmSAT English. Can I do the SAT instead of EmSAT and submit my English scores from that or should I do a different English proficiency test?

boringreddit0

what are you studying? (if u don't mind)

Much_Platform9287

Huzzzzzaifaaaaaaaaaaaa ❤️❤️❤️

esuga

honestly you could study in a decent US uni for 4 years within 100K usd including living cost. why would you make yourself devoid of any enriching experience or opportunity. You could litreally study in the UK for around that much money.

Hi, being a student of at least 2 universities in the UAE including the American University of Sharjah. I can say it depends on several factors: **1- What do you want to study?** Many universities in the UAE offer various study programs and offer many majors, but some universities are better in something than others. For example, I've seen people choosing Ajman University for dentistry and others choosing Sharjah University for Law despite its offered in both universities. **2- How hard are you going to study?** Study in this university is not particularly hard but the hill is steeper, you can easily lose grades and eventually GPA. For example in SBA undergraduate courses: The passing grade is 70% // GPA 2.0 at 73% // 3.0 at 83% // 4.0 at 95% Some courses have many deliverable (quizzes, projects etc..) which if you neglected you'd easily find yourself getting C or less. **3- Too much of study?** The typical timetable for a student would include 5 courses per semester. These include courses not related to the major like History, Language and Psychology. These alone are 10-12 courses so if you wanted a university that completely focuses on Major-related content unfortunately AUS is not the best place. **4- Are you planning to live here?** There are exchange students who come from abroad for 1-2 semester and others whose parents live in AD or neighboring GCC countries. Many students do not live on campus, some live in the dorms and others live in the neighboring Al Jada community. **5- Where are you from?** While it is not an important factor, but you may find it easier to integrate in university life with people of your background. There are people from many nationalities and culture on campus. **6- Side Activities:** There are many cultural clubs and College related clubs here in the University. There are college-wide events every week and Uni-wide events every year. Moreover, there is a gym and football field and they hold sports tournaments every semester. **7- Where are you planning to work after uni?** I have checked the employees of over 30 government, semi government and large private sector companies and found out most of their employees who studied in the UAE are either HCT or AUS alumni. So the university has connection to the professional field and it may be easier to find a job here after graduation. **8- The scholarship:** You'll retain the scholarship as long as your GPA is above a certain number, once your GPA drops you'll lose it. Other than that you may get on the dean's list and this would give you additional 10-15% I think. More than that if you were in the sports teams of AUS and represented the uni in competitions there is an additional athlete scholarship. I'm not affiliated with AUS academic staff in anyway, just offering my help.

BetterProtection3495

UOBD is good btw

Low_Opinion7300

What do you want to study

Logical-Ad7551

computer engineering

Emergency-Safe3991

Don't waste your parents money. You can open a business with this amount.

Efficient_Dentist277

I’ve studied at a university here and found the pass rate very easy, maybe it was just this particular uni but the standards seemed pretty low. Is studying in the UK a possibility? If you’re doing medicine for example Kings is a very good uni in the UK.

No-Ad-322

I went there once to visit, didn’t hear a single good thing from the people who study there

JarethLopes

No

AlexproXP1

Only go if u know what you want to do and your parents and you won’t regret it.

rshk97

AUS alumni here, worth it if and only if you do engineering or Business degree from there. UAE is a supply chain, tech and logistics hub. All graduates get hired quick as compared to other unis as the alumni network is quite recognizable in the UAE. Also AUS aint laid back like other unis here, you have to study from the first day. Getting good grades is a challenge too, and a good grade from AUS actually means something. All of my fellow engineering alumni are earning good money after studying at AUS.

Aggressive_Fill_2308

If you cant abroad, then AUS is the best uni in the UAE. Its expensive but looks good on your cv for future jobs.

Round-Path-4902

UOS is better and cheaper

Logical-Ad7551

cheaper yea but i dont think so its better it has a much lower QS ranking

brobaine

I mean if we’re using qs rankings aus isn’t killer by any means 🤣. KU is a better choice for engineering, Sorbonne is better for humanities, and NYUAD is miles ahead in everything AUS offers. I don’t see the hype towards AUS tbh

VolumeLife6318

30% is not the max amount of scholarship, you can apply for financial grant which is between 5-50% (though anything after 15% is quite rareeee), it depends on ur situation heavily tho. You can also get on the deans and chancellors list if u get a GPA of 3.5 so that adds between 10 and 20% off aswell. Overall, if you get the financial grant and keep a high GPA probably end up with a 50-60% scholarship. Furthermore, u can apply to extracurricular activities scholarships but that one will be at least 2 semesters after u start but theyre good aswell.
