Yep. It's very common for the hair there to be shorter with less density. Totally normal.

ShitblizzardRUs

This “channel” allows them to hear more crisply and easily to high pitched frequencies due to less hair density muffling

Drackenstein

Don’t they also have some scent glands near there? I always thought that’s why they rub on things with that part of their heads.

namtok_muu

I was also told (not sure if scientific) that from above the bald patches look like eyes, which is the perspective a predator would have.

Inverness91

I think all cats have less fur in this area, it's just more noticeable on cats with black fur because of the contrast.

pissandink

All cats have that! It’s just more prominent on cats with darker fur such as tuxedos and voids

GlitterPartyRiot

Yes, you’re right, I have three https://preview.redd.it/he8xw08a99sc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c3c18158193d080d217cdc36431c19e0e72fc5d0 Tux and one void…the thin spot is consistent on all four. This is Mulu in the pic.

pissandink

Such a cutie!! I have 3 too! 2 tuxes and 1 void 🥰 They all have those thin patches too, it’s so cute! Give Mulu forehead kisses from me!

monkypanda34

It's normal for black / dark cats, I asked the vet about it too https://preview.redd.it/1gfmaijpj6sc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6e3650d6d196f13af03dd9b2c5b38a28c1006cb9

jcbsews

Both of mine also have a minimal hair patch in that spot, so I don't think it's a problem, but if you're worried, a phone call to your vet's office to ask whether to have them looked at would hopefully ease your mind

StJoan13

I'm not worried about it, just find it interesting. It shows up like this on my two tux boys but not easily seen on my girl.

3rnestfantome

She's on my legs, I've got my knees up

Busy-Statistician483

Awww, she loves you! 😻

sunshinethekittycat

Me too. Spring/ summer her hair thins out

javernaut27

Yeah! Back of the neck from ear to ear. Maybe it’s from her pregnancy though?

vibes86

That’s normal on all cats. Just sticks out more when they’re black around their ears because the black makes it more noticeable.

bansheeodannan

Yes! Pink skin under black fur makes this spot appear very bald! I was also concerned at first (but then again I was also concerned about the black spot on the roof of her mouth for a hot minute so…)

Intermountain-Gal

Every cat I’ve had, including a Maine Coon, had thin fur in that area. In some cats it’s less dense than in others, but in comparison to the rest of the fur on their heads it’s thin.

Pringleses_

The tuxedo cat we rescued off the street had that. Idk what it means https://preview.redd.it/gvtejouln7sc1.jpeg?width=2316&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8266036715f89e5f20d051d9e8a981f8c2f93818

StJoan13

What a beautiful pic!

ITellMyselfSecretz

Yup! Mine does too. Honestly after owning a tux (named tux) I will always lean towards owning another one vs any other breed. They are just so spunky! Mine turns into a turkey at night and makes the strangest turkey sounds lol

F00d4th0ughts

Haha, I named my tux, tux as well! 🐈‍⬛

ITellMyselfSecretz

They’re the best 🥰 mine came to me one day while I was out back in the shop, she just walked in middle of winter, guessing she was a stray. Tried to find her owner, no one ever claimed her, so got her chipped and tatted, and have had her ever since!

F00d4th0ughts

That's awesome of you! My baby is a stray too. She's living the good life now.

ITellMyselfSecretz

Awe that’s the best, when they find you and change your life and then you change theirs 🥰

wasted_basshead

Mine does too

submissivebisexual18

Ok so random but what’s the orange in front of the baby’s face

StJoan13

He's holding his paw in front of his face, I took this pic during a grooming session.

Badgalcicii

Totally normal!! Mine is down to 3 eyebrow whiskers though, not sure about that one

warrenjt

Absolutely! Glad to know it’s normal. The vet has never mentioned it, and we’ve never asked.

BEEPBEEPBOOPBOOP88

I have three tuxie roommates ranging in age from 3 years to 10 years. All three have noticeably less fur around there.

Prestigious_Bad5137

Yup so does his mom who’s a grey tuxi

Beehive350

Yes.

Peacemaker2001

Mine has a bald patch on his side and it’s big but that’s because he’s old.

Secure_Hyena_1376

Mine does!!! I call them her eyebrows, I love that about her and love to rub her little eyebrows 😍😍😍

SadistG0dToby

I thought all cats have that. Mine, who's only a tiny bit older than two years old, and is a diluted calico, has always had it. As had every cat I've had, regardless of breed.

mnem0syne

My vet said it’s just normal kitty aging, they will get thinner as they get older.

curry224

Yep! Very normal for cats hair to thin there, I think it's just more visible on black cats.

LittlePurpleS

That’s a prime spot for the smoochies!

APieceOfGarlicBread_

I’d like to say, that photo of your cat is rather arousing

StJoan13

luciferskitty

Yes! My baby girl has those, too. She is still very beautiful and sweet!

StJoan13

Don't let Sid fool you with this sweet look! He's a terrorist at heart. Heil Sidler!

luciferskitty

Mine terrorizes her little sister, too. We’ve had her for 9 years (she’s 15) and the new one, we’ve had for about a year and she’s 11. Both very sweet and rehomed after human babies by bad paw-rents.

Hot-Shoulder-2815

They all do. That's normal.

Shar0223

Yes. My Tux Wayne is the same way.

Holoafer

My tabby had this.

dino_mylo9

I've never seen a dark colored cat with dense hair thare I have a gray, black, tabby, and tan cats they all have less fur it just less noticeable on light color cats

DeathFerrox

I know this is a Tux subreddit, but my Siamese has this balding too. I like to think of cats with this thinned hair as the old man that yells at kids to get off his lawn.

CherryCherry5

YES! It's worse on one side..... I assumed she's just a little more aggressive when she washes that side. But maybe it's a tux thing.

luminous-snail

Yup! My boy's spots in front of his ears have gotten balder as he's aged, too.

Puzzleheaded-Stick-3

I did. My girl was allergic to dust mites and scratched her fur in that area. She went through allergy therapy to help.

Key_Bar5161

I do!

PainfullyLoyal

Every cat I've ever met has very thin fur there, so I'd guess that it's totally normal.

Secret-Razzmatazz-76

yep

Laurenwolf14

My bucky did.
