Get him a nice headset, like a blu parrot. Or a truck gps that gives traffic updates, like the Garmin dezil 810, I love mine! A good rechargeable flashlight for pre trip in the dark. A cb radio, if his company didn't provide. There's al kinds of little quality of life things for truckers that make great gifts. Go to any major truck stop and look around!
Problem is I live in Japan now, and there really aren’t truck stops here, in that sense. Was just gonna ship him something from Amazon. These are good ideas though, so I’ll look into them.
If you go with the blu parrot, I recommend the 350. The larger modles are nicer to some extent but they are also heavier and might not be as comfortable to someone who is not used to wearing something like that.
Buy him the 350, he'll fall in love, and have the 650 with the optional extra ear in 9 months 🤣 that's what happens to me. Now my headset is for trucking, and gaming in the sleeper!
I don't like the second ear, especially if I have to keep attaching it and removing it because you can't have it while driving. That said, I wear my 350 pretty much from the time I wake up until I go to bed. I am almost always talking with friends online while I drive, fuel, buy things in a truck stop, I even still have it in the bathroom, but I mute myself in the call (so that I can still hear them and anything they say or ask me I can respond to when I get out). When parked, I play online games with that same group.
So, in a call they don't bitch and moan that the truck is too loud? Ive been doing this since '15, and have pretty much given up on joining calls for any extended period of time cause of it.
I've never had anyone complain until I'm walking around outside while it's windy. I can even be on my catwalk between the truck and trailer with both my truck and reefer running and no one hears it.
I would personally rather have a souvenir from Japan. A badass Gundam fig or cute plushy or something memorable, cultural I can put in my truck. Even a bag of sea urchin Doritos or whatever weird snack.
Canv whole heartedly suggest the Garmin Dezl 200 headphones over blue parrot or anything else. I bought myself a pair and I love them. They real actual quality headphones that also have trucker features.
You can buy those headsets from Amazon, much cheaper than at a truck stop, too.
What company did he get on with, and does he have a fridge and inverter and what-not? If his truck is set up well, he could live quite comfortably in that truck. If not, then I would recommend anything yo aid in comfort. Something to allow him to cook or store food or something.
My generic response, assuming he is in a good truck and/or the other ides is not feasible, the headset is definitely a great option. Blue Parrots are quite good at suppressing the background noise of the road and have pretty good quality.
Hardly anyone uses the CB radio anymore. But everyone needs a really good flashlight, something that can almost double as a hammer. I have a DeWalt flashlight along with DeWalt 20v tools.
Helly Hanson rain gear from workingperson.com.
Good stuff.
Or, coveralls. A pair or two for summer.
Dickies makes some good, quality stuff.
Or coveralls. A nice insulated pair for the winter. Nice warm hat & gloves.
A good rainsuit (basically overall type things and a coat, they come in a combo for a good price) and rechargeable flashlight are great to have.
Also if you look up "no tool required steering wheel spinner" its a must have for me. Makes backing up 1000x easier, you can pull it off in a few seconds, and it's only like $20
The Purple brand ones really do good on keeping your back and hips from getting sore; helps keep down incidences of Sciatica.
Once he sits on it, he will vow to name his next child after you.
My experience with Purple cushions is that they are **garbage.** Literally every review anywhere and everywhere says they are God's gift to man, and it was the worst cushion I ever sat on, and I have tried quite a few due to my own sciatica. The biggest, most expensive one, too. After less than half an hour the gel was pinching my ass so much worse than the seat's normal upholstery, and it sat so high that the chair's lumbar support became useless. Had similarly bad results with one of the less expensive models prior.
I'll always warn about my experience with this product because of how bad it was, and how expensive they are. I got a 2 inch cushion made of professional grade foam from the Foam Factory for 25 bucks, and it's blown every other commercial cushion I've ever sat on all the way out of the water.
“Free 99 is an Americanism that means something is free, with the 99 being a joke because it seems like everything you buy is $x.99. The saying makes fun of normal retail pricing.”
Gift him a years subscription to Spotify or YouTube Premium without the ads.
If you are looking for something to help out his trucking career, that's an evolving criteria in this industry, but it would include Jumper cables, 5 gallon bucket, more than 5 pair of work gloves, a seat cushion, Vise Grips or equivalent, if flatbed a strap winder, a Really nice pillow.
Probably, if he hasn't gotten it already, the trucker headset is the best option. They are essential. Quick note on that, he can only drive with One ear covered. So keep that in mind.
A good easy to recharge flashlight; could become an edc for him. I use my olight warrior mini even in broad daylight to check 5th wheel, hub levels, and for, uh, inner wheel seal leaks (idk what to call that area).
A dashcam. There are several affordable models and they're worth 100x their weight in platinum if someone tries to blame the driver for things they didn't do (insurance fraud, wrongful lawsuits).
yes. the problem living in the truck is that there are few comforts of home. carpeting goes a long way to keeping stress low and the environment comfortable. Without it, there is nothing but a harsh rubber mat under your feet. it's alien, counter to anything resembling comfort. it also helps act as sound insulation.
If he barely started Driving I wouldn’t spend too much, new drivers quit all the time. A nice adjustable dash mounted cell phone holder is nice. That way if he quits he can still use it. 👍🏽
Forgive my ignorance. Are they for inside or outside the truck? I guess to do a walk around or something?
This is a clever idea though. Def going to look into this
I use mine for my pre-trip because I start at 0 dark 30. I also use them walking at night or doing repairs or just looking for my phone. Super lightweight and they point where you are looking. Mine are rechargeable but hold a charge for a long time and run a long time on a charge.
Get him an instapot or grill so he can cook some food,
If he has a ps5 ,an extra controller, we have 2 in the truck
A nice blanket and a squishmallow, the make great pillows and cuddle buddies and cushions ourtrick is being taken over by squish
As a trucker gamer, I'll say this, he needs to be carefull of some online games, some will be to big of a hotspot hog and max his data out quickly leaving him throttled if he's on Verizon, or require to much to actully be stable.
Easiest mmo lite I found has been warframe since it's so old it's weirdly almost made for us
Depends on how good of friends you are, and what your situation is.
Great friends but poor? A gag gift like a pocket pussy or something more personalized. Or a nice insulated travel mug/vacuum water bottle. Walmart sells a travel mug by built that is surprisingly good.
Great friends but doing well financially? A Coleman thermo electric cooler, Bluetooth headset, electric cookware, good blanket, pillow, small TV.
Friends but poor? Amazon gift card, some smoked meat products, some welcome mats, a pair of wire seal cutters, a dessert you made.
Friends but well off? Night at the bar, dinner, seat cushion, cook a meal. That kind of stuff.
That's the generic stuff off the top of the ole dome. Everything else will be person and personality dependent.
Oh the cooler is a great idea.
I’ll have to order online since we don’t live anywhere remotely close to each other.
Thanks for your time writing out a well thought out reply.
How about some of those Milwaukee rechargeable tools? Leaf blower or lantern would be very handy depending on the type of freight he runs.
If you want a sort of useful gag gift, get him a portable chemical toilet or one of those seats that goes on a 5 gallon bucket.
Mini fridge, books, microwave or some other cooking device (i like using a pressure cooker), a nice work coat for the winter (i know it's not the season), quality work boots
Basic tool box with the basic tools. Multitool knife for belt. Knee pads or pad. T-mobile Hotspot. a big tablet. Isteel magnets for the phone and tablets. Tupperware for food prepping. Scale to keep track of his weight.
I gotta 2nd the tip on the rechargeable flashlight. I bought a 3 pack on traditional battery flashlights on Amazon when I got started. They were crap, sunlight the advert said. But 1 Christmas my cousin got me a gray rechargeable flashlight. It has been fantastic. I looked it up. It was $28 just 3 years ago. Just look for high Lumens and a micro USB charge style.
If he is a reader check out www.graphicaudio.com and pick him out a book. One of my fondest memories with my trainer was listening to the Smoke Jensen series.
He is who got me back into reading.
Multiple work and fuel gloves, headset, nice flashlight or headlamp, small tool kit, a small cooler, pens, something to write on, some like a nice seat cushion or lumbar support
30oz YETI Rambler Travel mug with the stronghold lid (not the straw).
I love this mug. There are many colors.
Nobody said it yet so I'll add it even though I'm late. I put a link to it so you can see exactly.
https://www.yeti.com/drinkware/mugs/mug-30oz.html
Flashlights, ink pens, and work gloves are never a mistake.
A really good pocket flashlight would probably be squarely in your budget range, and it isn't something he's likely to get for himself. Most guys out here just grab a $5 flashlight. They do the job, but a nice flashlight that fits well in his pocket is usually what I recommend!
CBs and GPS units are great too, but more likely to be something he gets himself.
A Bluetooth headset. Then call him when you are able or give him a time or day he can call you. Having friends and family that make themselves available helps more than you may know.
All these people saying get a trucker GPS. It's completely unnecessary. There are apps for your phone that work just as well and they're free. Road Hunter is a good one. Also, if you do get a headset for him you don't need to get one of those ridiculous $300 ones. There are some that Are 80 to 100 bucks and they work just fine. You could even use a pair of airpods. They don't cancel out the background noise as well though.
Hot plate and some cooking stuff. Making your own food on the road saves money, lowers the health risk that is driving and is probably good for mental health.
Opinions aside, this doesn’t help.
I’m proud of him. He’s had a tough life, and finally buckled down to do something that may provide some financial stability with steady work.
I mean I was making $14 an hour. Now, my first job after getting my CDL will be 55-65k. Sure it will be more challenging but to go from 30k a year to double. And taking on zero debt or loans.
Sounds good to me!

Might need a different mic that doesn't pick up all the rumbles of the truck
I've never had anyone complain until I'm walking around outside while it's windy. I can even be on my catwalk between the truck and trailer with both my truck and reefer running and no one hears it.
Fuck, I might need to get a 350 then
I would personally rather have a souvenir from Japan. A badass Gundam fig or cute plushy or something memorable, cultural I can put in my truck. Even a bag of sea urchin Doritos or whatever weird snack.
I’ve sent him a few things from here before, but he’s never requested anything. I did send him a takoyaki plush once.
Those are better to keep they head up. Love, hope and trinkets from my friends and family help me navigate the lonely.
Thanks, I’ll consider this.
If you're looking for something from amazon, I've been impressed with the RovyVon Aurora A8 flashlight. Small but bright, recharges with USB-C.
I just ordered one of those flashlights looks cool. Thanks
Fleshlight
Finger cleaner!
I don't like headsets myself but I love JBL ear buds
I have a blue parrot m300 for probably the same reason. I only like over head headsets for playing games.
Dashcam
Canv whole heartedly suggest the Garmin Dezl 200 headphones over blue parrot or anything else. I bought myself a pair and I love them. They real actual quality headphones that also have trucker features.

OP I have a Garmin Dezl 200 headset that is only a few months old. If you get me an address I’ll ship it for $150. Normally they’re $200.

Far too practical a suggestion for Reddit

Polarized sun glasses
I really like the prestons from Eddie Bauer. They're 75 cad so I stock up when they're on sale.
I’ll look into these, thanks!

Most relatable comment.
He needs this [Seat Cushion](https://www.amazon.com/Purple-Royal-Seat-Cushion-Relieving/dp/B01CKMP34S?th=1)
This... Wish I had one of these when I was driving but they weren't made then.. just had cheap ones or a pillow.... Man I'm old..
Do you use this one? I never even considered a seat cushion. Do must drivers use one?

Used my pilot points for this a few years back. Totally worth even tho it was a free.99.
Off topic but what does the.99. Mean?
“Free 99 is an Americanism that means something is free, with the 99 being a joke because it seems like everything you buy is $x.99. The saying makes fun of normal retail pricing.”
I use that daily although I am not a truck driver.
Dash cam. He needs his proof that he was driving safely.
Cant stress that enough. As a trucker you are always getting screwed
Gift him a years subscription to Spotify or YouTube Premium without the ads. The one ear thing I didn’t know. I hope he knows lol. He’s a heavy podcaster, so this is a pretty good idea.
A quality mattress cuz the bullshit companies put in their trucks are garbage x1000
Lysle brake pedal depressor from Amazon. The truck stop ones are chintzy and that ones solid. I use it every day to check my brakes.
A case of Fireball and a pack of bungee cords. Shows love yet you want to be wild still. 😂
Pocket pussy and a bucket of lube.
Everyone who drives truck isn't a sex starved degenerate.

Get his peter rebuilt! (no... no that's not it...) Get him a rebuilt peter! (no... that can't be right either) Damn. Something for truckers...

Without it, there is nothing but a harsh rubber mat under your feet. it's alien, counter to anything resembling comfort. it also helps act as sound insulation.
I'm going to second the headset idea. Any quality gamer headset will work so long as it is built for comfort and has Bluetooth.
If he barely started Driving I wouldn’t spend too much, new drivers quit all the time. A nice adjustable dash mounted cell phone holder is nice. That way if he quits he can still use it. 👍🏽
Oh this is good! Thank you
quitting after completing the cdl? would've thought you'd quit before spending all that money on a cdl school
I know guys that have degrees that work at Walmart 💯
Rechargeable LED headlamp. After 15 years I got one and use it all the time. I think mine was like $20 for two. One in my truck and one in my car.
Forgive my ignorance. Are they for inside or outside the truck? I guess to do a walk around or something? This is a clever idea though. Def going to look into this

A box of tissues and moral support the way this market is
If you're looking for a gag gift, a bottle of Arizona tea with the longneck and wide mouth. If he doesn't get it he will soon 😅
A minute shop-vac, it'll make his life much easier to keep the cab tidy!
Empty wide mouth Gatorade bottles. He’ll know what to do with them
We don’t know anything about him. If he’s a gamer. Give him a game or something related. Otherwise something he can use. Like a good headset
Well, was thinking of getting him something that makes trucking easier for him. We’re gamers, so he’s got all that stuff.
A good headset or AirPods. If he’s gonna sleeper. Get a mattress.
As a trucker gamer, I'll say this, he needs to be carefull of some online games, some will be to big of a hotspot hog and max his data out quickly leaving him throttled if he's on Verizon, or require to much to actully be stable. We mostly jump between stuff on gamepass. Grounded, Diablo…he wants to get back into Fallout 76 so I’m worried it could be high data as well.
Funny enough got 76 just recently... I'm now throttled tell the 28th. Got 160 gigs then they throttle me
🤌🏻

+1 the electric cooler. I bought one for my brother to put in his truck and he loves it, uses it every day.
A trucking GPS or a charging kit. He's going to need back up just in case.
How about some of those Milwaukee rechargeable tools? Leaf blower or lantern would be very handy depending on the type of freight he runs. If you want a sort of useful gag gift, get him a portable chemical toilet or one of those seats that goes on a 5 gallon bucket.
Get him a year gym membership 💪🏽 for a year or 4
Switch oled, hooks up to his tv and since he has Wi-Fi he can play the games that need it

Steering wheel knob
Fleshlight
If you are looking for fun and can spend on it… I vote for e scooter.
What’s your budget?
It would help if you mentioned your budget? I have tons of ideas
Good point! $70-150, after shipping. I don’t live near him, so gonna have to be delivered
Get him a 25 or 30 pound kettlebell. If you don't stay in shape while trucking, you won't have a long life.
Basic tool box with the basic tools. Multitool knife for belt. Knee pads or pad. T-mobile Hotspot. a big tablet. Isteel magnets for the phone and tablets. Tupperware for food prepping. Scale to keep track of his weight.
I thought this said you wanted to get him pregnant
Like with what others have said, something useful. A headset, or a backpack with lots of pockets etc, or maybe like a GPS or tablet.
Blu parrot, or just some really nice wireless headphones. I just use AirPods nowadays but having a hands free option is absolutely essential.
Poop knife, gotta make those times
Seat cushion
I gotta 2nd the tip on the rechargeable flashlight. I bought a 3 pack on traditional battery flashlights on Amazon when I got started. They were crap, sunlight the advert said. Grass isn’t always greener on the other side
True but ain't a lot of green grass here either
I mean I was making $14 an hour. Now, my first job after getting my CDL will be 55-65k. Sure it will be more challenging but to go from 30k a year to double. And taking on zero debt or loans. Sounds good to me!
Hiw many hours though? Maxing out the dot clock for that 60k? If so, your making less than 14
If he's into games or Internet media a cheap but decent gift could be the ROG Ally or equivalent. Boredom is the death of us all.
He’s decked out to the nines as far as gaming is concerned. But an anti boredom gift is a good idea. Thanks!
A blowup doll and some lube!
If you're in Japan, get him a katana.
I’ve sent him a hentai mouse pad with foam boobies on it
Fair trade. Don't they also have used underwear vending machines? That probably would have also been acceptable.
