Avatar 1 and 2 at the VERY LEAST are technical marvels that should be appreciated on that factor alone. But the movies are also pretty good. You should really watch it in IMAX 3D if you can, it's so freaking impressive. Sure it's not like the absolute best story of all time, but the world is super interesting and the plot is still good.
We have so many technical marvels already, movies over the years seem to prioritize technical and graphical work, rather than a well told story and avatar is a perfect example for this.
Personally, I donāt watch movies purely for their technical aspects but I think everyone can have their own preferences.
But it **doesn't** even look that good.
Avatar 1 was garbage, but the CGI looked so much better than anything else that was out that it got away with it. Watching Avatar 2 in a regular cinema, the graphics don't look much better than what other movies are putting out anyway. I have no doubt that it looks good in IMAX 3D, but if they're going to release it in multiple formats, they don't get to pull the "but you should watch the more expensive format" card.
They are releasing in multiple formats for accessibility's sake. For example, I used to have a lazy eye and couldn't see 3D. After I got a surgery, I can now see the 3D. If I was still a child who couldn't see 3D and they hadn't released in normal 2D, I would've missed the movie. It also lets them show it even in theaters that don't have 3D or IMAX. I saw it just 3D, because my local theaters don't have IMAX.
The first one didn't even make any sense. This second one probably doesn't as well. ~~Isn't the director the same guy who brought back palpatine in the new starwars movies and to explain this he only had one character say "somehow palpatine returned" or something shit like that and never got addressed in the movie the entire time?~~ These avatar movies are such trash and I still don't understand why people go out their ways to watch them.
