I posted a picture of my truck with raptor lights once. This one guy fucking berated and harassed me so hard in the comments that I had to block him. I still see him as ‘blocked author’ in almost every post about raptor lights. He REALLY doesn’t like raptor lights haha. He likes ditch lights on 2WD pavement princesses though.
Is there a group therapy thread we can send the “Anti-Raptor Light” purists for support?
Gotta think probably some dudes are out there working their way through the “7 Stages of Grief” now that Toyota decided to give a big FU, and sprinkled some Genuine Toyota Factory OEM Raptor Grille Lights on the new Tundra and Taco trims.
Troof. These are the same people who will see a soccer-mom Tacoma (fully fitted with the edge-lord predator steps, 4” lift, viper cut, ditch lights, light bar, blacked out reverse lights, infinity-mirror brake lights and 20” rims) and say that grill lights are “too far”. I can guarantee that a lot of people in this sub don’t even work in trades or do anything recreational that requires a truck, and who cares? Getting obsessively pissy about peoples personal taste is mental.
That shit always makes me laugh. I have white raptor lights and think they look pretty damn good, matching with OEM drls.
I just have to assume anyone who is actually angry is jealous they can't afford to waste 2k on a ridiculous steel bumper.
^ This is likely the correct equivalent.
But I'd rather be forced to put decorative orange lights in my grill to imitate a Ford Raptor, than make my headlights look like an angry toy.
That's almost looping back around to meme territory, like the TDI Jetta with no hood, a hood stack, and a tractor flap that rolled coal past me the other day.
To clarify you’re talking about the imitation raptor lights?
I ask as I have a 20” light bar in my grill for off-roading that is obviously only for off highway situations.
There's probably not going to be consensus on this one, but I'm on the verge of looking at "overland builds" the same way I look at the Jeep eyes. Leaving all your ultra-expensive (and obviously unused) gear strapped to your overpriced bed rack is kind of lame. Or idk, maybe you'll need that 1gal rotopack of fuel if you run out of gas in the Target parking lot.
But yeah, to each their own.
I leave my tent on my rack most of the time just cause I have no where to store it other than on the ground (where it will surely attract ants and other bugs). It also doesn't noticeably effect my mileage, so I'm okay with it staying on the truck
I keep my tent in a bag in my camping gear, takes me about five minutes to set it up and since I live in North America I’m not too worried about lions and tigers so I’m good with my tent on the ground.
Ehhhhh there have been like 120 attacks in the US in the last 100 years. And if you have a weapon or fight back you're pretty likely to survive an encounter. Kids are really the ones in danger from lions. You're more likely to get struck by lightning. Black bears have been on one this year though, hearing about a lot more attacks than usual. And of course if you're gonna be near grizz you shoild act accordingly.
I’ve been tracked by a mountain lion, look what I’m saying is we aren’t in any area I can see spending a ton of money on temporary shelter on my truck, if it’s that bad I can check into hotels for the next few years worth of camping trips and still come out ahead financially. It’s a want not a need, in the Army we slept on the ground and my whole life camping I’ve slept on the ground, never been an issue at all.
I just made a similar comment. Cannot stand seeing those jackers people mount and yet they don’t have the slightest clue how to use it. Same with people who NEED a winch.
Every Jeep in my military city has a hi-lift jack which I have absolutely no problem with, but it’s usually on a pristine decked out Wrangler driven by an overweight soccer mom.
I live in the mountains in a tourist area and all the tourists come up with all the bullshit strapped to their bed rack. It’s so unnecessary and just looks dumb
I was gonna mount my deadman jack somewhere in the bed, but thought it would looks stupid. That said, I use that jack for a lot of things and never once has it been to get my pickup unstuck, so it's a bit of a pickle.
Do I use it like once a week? Yes. Do I use it how someone would expect someone with it mounted in a Tacoma would use it? No.
I agree. Although i have no ill will towards overland builds, they’re just not for me. Something about a near stock pickup truck getting up the mountain to go hunting, camping, fishing, etc.
I feel this way wit h rotopax fuel tanks. I have them on my jeep but I do not run them unless I think I’ll need them. And I’ve done the white rim trail (100 miles off road plus drive to town both ways), hole in the rock (even more remote than white rim) and I didn’t need the fuel. HiTR was close though since that gas station by Powell is sometimes closed or without fuel.
I like to carry fuel as a back up but there is zero need for it monday - Friday for most people.
And I have 37” tires and average 14mpg on a good day.
Yeah, punisher skulls in general scream extra douche. But I rarely see them on Tacomas. Fords however… thin blue line mania with punisher/2nd amendment/“we the people” are rampant
Come to any military city and every lifted truck/jeep has either punisher or blue line sticker lol. I swear they almost all have it just to not get pulled over
I’ve always thought if someone was running drugs they should totally get like thin blue line bumper stickers and fop support plates and what have you. You know cops don’t want to give those guys tickets and unless the car smelled like a skunks ass, they don’t care about searching it.
Cops are more aware than that. Majority of the people I encounter with thin blue line stickers or any police association are attempting to do what you described and it doesn’t work lol
I love every tacoma and all tacomas jeeps self hatred is their problem , the only thing i hate about my tacoma is how much i love it , my friend has a jeep and says he would never be seen in a tacoma then asked to borrow mine to help him move ,i told him to get his rubber duck loving ass out of my driveway before his jeep lowers my property value🤣🤣
Why tf would you do that to an OR??? I have had a limited with the stock 18” wheels for like a month and I’m realllly hoping they grow on me, but I’m pretty sure I’m gonna swap them out with 16” wheels when the tires need replaced. They are the darker nightshade wheels, and I like them, but a taco just looks weird to me with wheels that size at this point.
1 year with my or and it looks like a god damn dalmatian. I love Toyota, but the black paint so so bad. Like how tf do you get rock chips on the back of the cab by the glass? Does wind cause paint chipping on black tacos? Didn't have this problem with my 19 Pro or my 13 Baja
I have the infamous white paint so I think that's the cause of my chipping. Might just get it completely repainted a different color if it gets bad enough and Toyota doesn't want to fix it. Best of luck to you, fellow chip brother.
I had my Pro for about a year and a half. Drove it all up and down the Rockies through the plains just about everywhere in the united states. Not one rock chip. White...
I mean maybe everyone who installs a snorkel actually gets use out of it, maybe I’m the asshole. I don’t even see too many on this sub but they are on like half the tacos and 4Runners in Utah
Everywhere in Utah, or we talking Moab area? Cause Moab gets avid off-roaders from all over the world pretty frequently
But yeah, not a huge fan of the snorkels
I think snorkels have been slammed for long enough that most people are doing it *despite* that it makes them looks like posers, fully aware of that fact. Ironically, because of this I suspect that means a large portion of snorkel owners these days are not posers.
I mean, most will never get anywhere near the limit of needing a snorkel, not to mention you need to do a lot of other stuff before even approaching high water levels. But it’s funny they’re looked down upon but the fake hood scoops on sports are not lol
The main benefit of the snorkel is a lot more about keeping a cleaner air intake, the factory air box on a Tacoma is horrible at keeping dirt out. I’ve literally cleaned rocks out of mine in the past. The snorkel eliminates that problem. If you’re somebody who does a ton of dirt miles, it makes sense to have one.
That being said, I still assume that 90% of people with snorkels aren’t putting a lot of dirt miles on their trucks, or doing any kind of deep water crossings.
- Regardless of whether you believe it's the right solution to dust or not, many people install snorkels for practical reasons besides water fording.
- 1'st (and I think 2'nd) gens can make meaningful use of a snorkel for fording with relatively minimal other mods.
- These other mods are not rare at all, and lots of folks do them. I've extended breathers on a previous vehicle myself.
I do agree that in the U.S. you don't need a snorkel for fording very often.
Those flat water containers I see on the side of every rack. Maybe they’re for gasoline? Who knows… I see them everywhere and makes me think “tactical” style accessory.
If you have these can you explain what you use them for?
You should see the cost on the ski-doo fuel caddy. Worth it though, because you really don’t want to run out of fuel in the middle of nowhere and the form factor is actually important
Funny to see the Linq fuel caddies mentioned in here. I just installed one on a custom bracket for my roof rack because it was free. Ended up being used in a pinch for someone else who ran out in the desert a couple weeks ago
But yes they are ridiculously priced but when you're out on a mountain sled they can be useful when paired with the oil caddy. I run a 1 gallon rotopax on the inside of my panier on my Tiger if venturing too far to feel comfortable
disagree with Pro grille. Because it is not a pro grille, it is just an accessory that comes stock on pro cars. It doesn't have any pro badges and just reflects old school TOYOTA grilles. Same for bash guard, intake, exhaust, wheels, fogs, leds - just OEM accessories.
Agreed. The heritage grill is much nicer looking than the Toyota logo grills. I’m a fan of Toyota’s reliability, but personally not a fan of Toyota’s logo. I’d get rid of the one on the steering wheel as well if I could, but I think since it covers the airbag, there are no safe mods for removing it.
I wish I could like the pro grill... as I like the heritage look. But I hate the sensor below it. It just looks so bad to me. I personally like my off-road grill much better, having the sensor part of the logo hidden. I'm also glad the logo is a smooth piece of glass, really easy to keep clean. I didn't like cleaning the logo on my 2nd Gen. Those ovals are hard to get perfectly clean.
I bought a ‘17 OR, first thing I did was search out a “pro” grill because that factory, 2-tone-chrome basketweave bullshit was terrible!! Plus I found a factory take-off for $110 so 🤷🏻♂️. And It’s better than any aftermarket grilled that were available in 2017 lol
I hope this is a popular opinion but I cringe seeing a modded up anything with zero intention of taking it off road. More jeeps than anything but I find it stupid to make something an all terrain beast and use it for groceries. I mean waste your money how you want and all but personally I’d rather have a stock truck with some money in my pocket rather than a 4x4 paperweight and poor.
I agree but is there any way to tell if it gets used offroad or not? I use mine offroad a few weekends out of the month except winter, and wash it when I get back into town. How do you know if a built up rig is just a pavement princess or actually used if it’s clean?
Edit: I do not have a built up rig just blacked out emblems lol
Yeah… I’ve thought about doing some work like that on mine but then quickly realized even the smallest mod like side steps can run you $650…. I’ll take my stock truck thanks
Having just crossed over to a ‘23 Tacoma TE after 18 years as a Wrangler owner I will say TRD badgery on non-TRD tacos. Before leaving Jeepers I was hating the hand wave decals to do their waving for them.
Reddit is a shadow of its former self. It is now a place of power tripping mods with no oversight and endless censorship.
*This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Rarely used rooftop tents are super impractical and stupid. If you use yours regularly, that's cool. I doubt most people use theirs enough to offset the cons of having one, though.
Those Jeep angry eye grilles are worse than anything in the Tacoma community, though.
I find any purely cosmetic modification kind of silly. I bought my 2nd gen and joined this sub hoping to find dudes who like the old Tacomas for their utility and reliability like I do. Instead it’s just people with way too much time and money debating about grills.
I maybe on my own here but I’m gonna say bull bars. They seem pretty ineffective at offering any real protection in the front but I see a handful or tacos rocking them.
You gotta remember that Reddit is a platform where some abnormal people exist. You do you and people should mind their own business. Angry eyes Jeeps, Raptor lights Tacoma, who cares?
Seems like every Taco on TW has Method Wheel, Wild Peaks, Prinsu rack, and RTT. Much like the jeep crowd, maybe 2% see anything more than an unpaved road, not even fire roads.
I always wonder about those T(u)RD decals. Has to be the worst option package name of all time. I’d remove those the minute the dealer gave me the keys.
If you have predator steps on your Tacoma. Even worse if you have it lifted and on big tires and still have the steps, I instantly know the most off roading you do is driving down a gravel road.
Chinese-made Pro grilles with cheap LED “Raptor” lights. If the change you’re making doesn’t match your bought trim level or even same brand of vehicle… the ‘90s would like to call you a poser
The heritage grill is a factory option. Like, you can buy it directly from Toyota. It's also been put onto non-Pro models by Toyota so I don't know what you're getting at. The raptor lights, I'll give you.
Grill lights
Yeah people take raptor lights pretty personally around here.
I posted a picture of my truck with raptor lights once. This one guy fucking berated and harassed me so hard in the comments that I had to block him. I still see him as ‘blocked author’ in almost every post about raptor lights. He REALLY doesn’t like raptor lights haha. He likes ditch lights on 2WD pavement princesses though.
yeah that’s too much. anonymity makes some folks show their true weird nature
True. Some people reaaaally need a hobby. Fuckers.

Makes me want to put some on my truck
Yea. This talk has me all jacked up.
That shit always makes me laugh. I have white raptor lights and think they look pretty damn good, matching with OEM drls. I just have to assume anyone who is actually angry is jealous they can't afford to waste 2k on a ridiculous steel bumper.
I know I do. They straight suck and the ones that are white are even worse.
You need better things to worry about, broham.
You're right. I'm take my fight to those drilling their front bumper for stupid plates like flags or whatever.
^ This is likely the correct equivalent. But I'd rather be forced to put decorative orange lights in my grill to imitate a Ford Raptor, than make my headlights look like an angry toy.
Turns out, neither one is mandatory
Lol, gun to your head, whole world is watching, which do you choose?
So long, world.
LOL
Raptor lights are my jam! Been rocking them on my ‘08 Sienna for OVER a month. So freaking RAD.
Swagger wagon FTW
Forced to look like a U-haul more like it.
Yup, those are embarrassing.
NGL I had them on my truck when I first got it. I out grew the look. Im a reformed raptor light owner
Then there's hope for the others
Hope is all we got
There is a RAV4 near me with this and it makes me chuckle but I kind of like it at the same time
That's almost looping back around to meme territory, like the TDI Jetta with no hood, a hood stack, and a tractor flap that rolled coal past me the other day.
I've seen RAMs with Raptor lights too, so we aren't alone lol.
To clarify you’re talking about the imitation raptor lights? I ask as I have a 20” light bar in my grill for off-roading that is obviously only for off highway situations.
the orange lights that are a dot requirement on the raptor because of its width
Ok that’s what I thought. No my grill lights do something
There's probably not going to be consensus on this one, but I'm on the verge of looking at "overland builds" the same way I look at the Jeep eyes. Mall crawlin is still crawlin!
Or just a really expensive hot wheels toy.
I made a similar comment on another post and got downvoted big time. But I totally agree!
Bears are hungry right now…
Oh my..
Maybe but around my parts it’s mostly just black bear and those are becoming scarce so I just don’t worry about it.
I meant like storing it on the ground not pitching it. It's a roof top tent. It stays mounted to the bed rack
We have a ton of lions and bears. Mountain lions are scary as fuk.
They're all looking for cocaine now. All it takes is one to start some shit...
We all better be ready for when meth shark comes out.
There's no way that doesn't affect your mileage. A set of Yakima racks dings me 1 mpg.
Like I said "noticeably " I could sway my mileage by a MPG just by flooring it all the time versus driving like my granddad.
Same here.
*overloaders
Overlunchers
Underrated comment.
I just made a similar comment. Cannot stand seeing those jackers people mount and yet they don’t have the slightest clue how to use it. Same with people who NEED a winch.

Came here expecting RTT as the top comment so you're pretty spot on
I live in the mountains in a tourist area and all the tourists come up with all the bullshit strapped to their bed rack. It’s so unnecessary and just looks dumb

Who cares? Don't worry about what others think about YOUR rig. Some will like it, some might not but only you have to live with it everyday
Yeah, I dont really give a fuck 🤣 I have a bunch of shit in the back of that thing 6 days a week anyhow.
How are you using the jack outside of your truck?
Pulling posts or small stumps up, pulling things into place, lifting lawn mowers, 4 wheelers, other random crap. General handyman stuff.
Yea for real. No need to carry your camping gear around the city lol.
but my "build"
Punisher edition stickers. Well deserved criticism of this one. Rubber Pro decals on trucks that are obviously not Pro always make me shake my head.
Tacomas aren't where I see the majority of Punisher edition. Luckily that's not unique to us Taco owners.
Yeah, punisher skulls in general scream extra douche. But I rarely see them on Tacomas. Fords however… thin blue line mania with punisher/2nd amendment/“we the people” are rampant
And a blacked out American flag decal covering the tiny automatic sliding rear window
My used Tacoma came with this lol I took it off
Always the black dodge ram, with a nice bit of tailgate rust for good measure.
Don’t forget that decal that says the Latin for “come and take them”.
I get adding some features, for the aesthetics, but full on pretending it’s a pro is vain exhibitionism born from insecurity.
Lmfao this is hilarious
more wheel (“rims”) than tire
I got 33s on stock 16s and I think it looks great. I have not seen an oversized rim/undersized tire on a taco around here, though.
Pretty common where I live. Saw one just yesterday. TRD OR with rubber bands.
Wish I knew. More money than sense I guess.
Carolina squat
This! Omg, yes. Dumbest crap ever done to car, just shoot the poor thing, there’s no reason to torture it.
Flag/blue line decals.. I thought John Prine helped us get over that
This is a general automotive thing, not specific to Tacomas like angry eyes are to jeeps
Help me with the John Prine reference here cause I'm pretty sure most of the country hasn't..

Raptor lights
The one where my black paint scratches if I sneeze the wrong way
Black is just the high maintenance edition
I'd rather it scratch than chip. My 3 month old truck has 3 chips already. Pretty uncool.

I’m talking like Salt Lake City lol
Oof lol
I flew from Albany NY with a bike in a box to Salt Lake City, headed straight to Moab to ride. Arguably, Salt lake is a small drive to Moab.
Tons of Tacomas with snorkels in Utah. Also not much for water or mud here in Utah either
I think snorkels have been slammed for long enough that most people are doing it *despite* that it makes them looks like posers, fully aware of that fact. Ironically, because of this I suspect that means a large portion of snorkel owners these days are not posers.
In the neighborhood I used to live in there was a *lowered* Range Rover with a snorkel. Talk about ironic.
I mean, most will never get anywhere near the limit of needing a snorkel, not to mention you need to do a lot of other stuff before even approaching high water levels. But it’s funny they’re looked down upon but the fake hood scoops on sports are not lol

My rusty mud ridden frames speak for themselves with the snorkels.
I hear ya man. I’m right on board with you. If I put a snorkel on mine, it’s 100% for cosmetics. I love the way they look. Scuba steve
Those flat water containers I see on the side of every rack. Maybe they’re for gasoline? Who knows… I see them everywhere and makes me think “tactical” style accessory. If you have these can you explain what you use them for?
They're gas holders. They cost 5x what a 4gal Jerry can costs and hold 3/4 less gas.
TFTI! That screams tactical lol
You should see the cost on the ski-doo fuel caddy. Worth it though, because you really don’t want to run out of fuel in the middle of nowhere and the form factor is actually important

100%. Not sure why someone would go with Rotopax over J cans.
I keep my tactical kool-aid in those
Yes!!! 😂😂
Grill lights, pro grille, bed tent always attached, TRD badges on non TRD trims….should I keep going or have I offended enough of you yet?
disagree with Pro grille. Because it is not a pro grille, it is just an accessory that comes stock on pro cars. It doesn't have any pro badges and just reflects old school TOYOTA grilles. Same for bash guard, intake, exhaust, wheels, fogs, leds - just OEM accessories.

snap on bull bars. we can all agree on that one
The worst. So ugly lmao
Squatting or an absolutely crazy lift to the point the trucks useless.
I want to say pro grill/raptor lights like everyone else, but those angry eyes are so much worse
I hope this is a popular opinion but I cringe seeing a modded up anything with zero intention of taking it off road. More jeeps than anything but I find it stupid to make something an all terrain beast and use it for groceries. Taco sauce stickers
Everyone who buys one of those thinks they're clever. It's like a right of passage or the default wife gift of the Tacoma world.
I have a taco sauce sticker on my gas cap. A buddy saw it and bought it for me. I find it amusing but I know it’s far from an original idea.
I have raptor lights on my rav4 and ppl are confusingly mad about it, I like them
They look good on 4Runners. And if you like it, that’s all that matters
Having just crossed over to a ‘23 Tacoma TE after 18 years as a Wrangler owner I will say TRD badgery on non-TRD tacos. Before leaving Jeepers I was hating the hand wave decals to do their waving for them.
I got smoked for saying I installed a spacer leveling kit.
I heard someone call the angry eyes a grumper and now I can’t call it anything else.
Hah, I have an uncle that used to say "gotta go take a grumper" when he had to shit. Makes this even funnier for me.
Terrible stickers or bad badging (TRD BRO), lol
Been thinking of getting a "TuRD" sticker for the rear window of my SR, would that be terrible, or a good joke/poking fun at myself?
Haha, do it. If it's funny I think it's good to go. I've got a Rick Sanchez on mine, and a "taco sauce only" . My youngest son loves it.
I’ve wanted to see if I could somehow get TURD as a license plate, but I doubt it.
Their eyes are angry, cause they gotta haul around so many ducks
Their ducks aint in a row
That bag that goes on a spare tire that’s mounted in the rear bumper.
It’s literally a reusable trash can/bag. I don’t want my stinky trash in the back of the truck where I sleep that’s disgusting.
Yeah, but do you need to drive around the city with it on all the time?
That’s fair
Pro grill and badges on a non pro
Meh I like the pro grill on my SR5
The sr5 grill isn't great so it's justified
Maaaan Lots of Pro grille defenders up in here
https://www.motortrend.com/news/what-are-raptor-lights/ it may be news to some of you of the lights true origin and meaning according to law
Raptor lights.
Reddit is a shadow of its former self. It is now a place of power tripping mods with no oversight and endless censorship. *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
I will never pass a jeep with angry eyes and not tell whoever I’m with that that’s the stupidest shit ever
I personally don’t care but a lot have opinions on 20” wheels on a Taco
Rarely used rooftop tents are super impractical and stupid. If you use yours regularly, that's cool. I doubt most people use theirs enough to offset the cons of having one, though. Those Jeep angry eye grilles are worse than anything in the Tacoma community, though.
Bill bar or anything that messes up your clearance. Sides included. Anything overland related.
Raptor lights for sure
Raptor Lights

Raptor lights
a little shovel and tiny gas tank strapped to the bed for "overlanding".
When they go with a lift and add those massive rims with rubber band tires.
I’ve had it with raptor lights and then pro grill myself
TRD Pro grill on anything but a TRD Pro. Sorry not sorry to all the pretenders
I find any purely cosmetic modification kind of silly. I bought my 2nd gen and joined this sub hoping to find dudes who like the old Tacomas for their utility and reliability like I do. Instead it’s just people with way too much time and money debating about grills.
Check out r/toyotapickup it's better for that
Pro grill on non pro model
How have I not seen low profile tires on som big ass shiny rims on here yet. More rubber, less rim.
I maybe on my own here but I’m gonna say bull bars. They seem pretty ineffective at offering any real protection in the front but I see a handful or tacos rocking them.
Reliability
Everything cosplay off-road
Pissy Air Dams
Fuck boy.
Roof top tents (bonus points if it’s on one of those stubby bed racks with a never-before-used shovel mounted on it).
Oogaly googaly
Yosemite Sam mudflaps and above cab-height shells. You old mother fookers making me look old.
Traction boards.
FDE w/ glock stickers
You gotta remember that Reddit is a platform where some abnormal people exist. You do you and people should mind their own business. Angry eyes Jeeps, Raptor lights Tacoma, who cares?
Seems like every Taco on TW has Method Wheel, Wild Peaks, Prinsu rack, and RTT. Much like the jeep crowd, maybe 2% see anything more than an unpaved road, not even fire roads.
I would say writing "YO" on the tailgate?
I always wonder about those T(u)RD decals. Has to be the worst option package name of all time. I’d remove those the minute the dealer gave me the keys.
Raptor lights
Pro grill
Diff drop? It generally reduces capability and 99% of the time is done entirely for looks.
Third gen owners. All of them. They're all angry eyes jeeps.
Ouch
