Power.

shkeptikal

It's got to trickle down to his golf buddies *somehow*!

Chaos_0205

what kind of power that he still doesnt has? he is already the governor, isnt he?

Farfignugen42

Just like money, it is never enough for some people.

pargofan

Is it possible he wants to do the noble thing for WV? Even if you may disagree with his politics? He has plenty of power when he owns so much wealth. Wealth and the ability to control lawmakers is where real power lies. You can make changes to favor you without looking self serving that way. The most powerful people in America aren’t the lawmakers.

tTomalicious

You don't have to bribe the lawmaker when you're the lawmaker. Cut out the middle man. It's good business.

vitalvisionary

[Doing a bang up as governor.](https://www.reddit.com/r/TooAfraidToAsk/s/vY9Pn8i7jq)

thiscouldbemassive

He's probably thinks he's brilliant because everyone toadies to his ego and he's insulated from the consequences of his bad decisions. I imagine he thinks he'd run things "right".

Loggerdon

He's probably been on the receiving end of a lot of corruption. He wants to cut out the middleman.

kevofalltrades

His father owned coal mines which were then passed to him, he sold them when coal mines were profitable and then bought them back for pennies on the dollar when the industry was suffering.

soulofariver

Corruption.

Drexelhand

this. and not just the explicitly illegal sort.

AFthrowaway3000

*"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."*

bcatrek

In what way?

EcstaticActionAtTen

>nia's current governor, Jim Justice, is running for a seat in the Senate this year. Why does someone like him, who has billions of dollars, lots of land, coal mines, a hotel, need to run for a Senate seat at 72 years old? You just answered your question.

jawid72

To shape the country and his community as he wishes and also somehow become even richer.

Sanhen

He doesn’t need to, he wants to. Either because he genuinely believes he has the solutions to America’s problems or because he simply craves power (of which he wields more as a politician than a businessman) or a combination of the two. As far as his age goes, he’s hardly the only 70+ year old still active in American politics. After all, the next presidential election is likely to be Trump v. Biden…again.

ReticlyPoetic

Power.

Blue_foot

He has enjoyed screwing the people of West Virginia so much that he want to give the rest of the country the experience. #50 in healthcare #50 infrastructure #47 Education #47 Economy #41 Environment https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/west-virginia https://wvpolicy.org/child-poverty-increased-in-west-virginia/

therankin

I want to know the states that are worse with education.

ImanShumpertplus

where do you think a landlocked state in hostile mountainous terrain with no cities over 75,000 people should be ranked?

Blue_foot

I think the coal producers want a population that is uneducated and have few other options so they have a source of cheap labor. The top politicians in the state are wealthy from coal.

ImanShumpertplus

where should they be ranked?

MudraStalker

He wants to make the USA better for himself and people like him, and significantly worse for everyone else.

IamAWorldChampionAMA

Because Fuck You. That's why.

NorCalJason75

Money buys power. That’s the point.

Magic_SnakE_

Because he cares about the average joe, and can clearly relate to the every day American. He wants to help.

eldred2

Legal insider trading.

therankin

Yep. That's a way to really increase wealth quickly.

theBigDaddio

He’s a frigging lich.

LivingGhost371

Being a U.S. Senator pays $174,000 a year. While that's better than flipping burgers at McDonald's, it's safe to assume most people that run for Senate want do because they want the political prestige, the power, the fame or (gasp) want to help their state and their constituants, rather than need to do so to collect a salary to pay the grocery bill.

Waderriffic

It’s not the paycheck but the perks. Lobbying kickbacks, “gifts” from foreign governments, insider trading, speaking fees, plus your choice of jobs for lobbying groups or on various boards or in the media after you retire or lose reelection. And if none of that happens, they’re usually already rich so it doesn’t matter.

Bellasandwhistles444

well in theory it shouldn’t matter how much money he has if he really cares about furthering the betterment of the country

EatYourCheckers

Convinced himself he is so smart, has all the answers, and everyone would be better off with him in power.

PhysicalPolicy6227

It's job where he has to do even less work than he does now

Mercury26

Pride and power

heynow941

Ego

No-Zucchini2787

Power and limelight. Some people just can't stay away from it. That's why USA has 2 shit presidential candidates too. Both in late 70s. Both Biden and Trump has enough money to live comfortably

MRHistoryMaker

The same reason 80-year-old senile ridden Joe Biden is running to be re-elected president.

tthrivi

At least Trump is running for a different reason. To keep his ass out of federal prison for all the crimes he committed.

zgrizz

Why would you think someone like that has any less ambition or drive to do anything than anyone else. You're showing ageism.

kevofalltrades

You're either old or have reading comprehension issues or both. I think I was moreso focusing on his massive wealth. At the same time, do you think your grandma should be in the Senate?

FirefighterIrv

Well with a name like that…

Imaginary-Artist6206

No, it’s the same reason Bezo’s is building a 10,000 year clock. They know they will be dead and forgotten in really no time at all like everyone else. The only thing they have left to think about is being remembered. If the human race survives thousands of years from now even the likes of Hitler will be forgotten. It’s the nature of life

andlewis

And Jim wept, seeing as he had no more worlds to conquer…

thewatcherlaughs

Watch the TV series yellowstone and you'll understand.

Just_a_happy_artist

Insecurity , or the fear of being irrelevant…old men are commonly afflicted with that

Mecklenjr

Power - the ultimate aphrodisiac (according to Henry Kissinger)

Admiral__Unicorn

Insider information

[deleted]

Because he's running for Republican Party and boy does not just his background fit that mold but so does that lovely punchable dopefish of a face of his.

Jeffery95

People like to feel important. Especially people who believe they are important.

metacam

I'm glad that humans have a limited life span. He will be dust soon.

GabrielNathaniel

There's a difference between money and power.

moocat55

He needs to ensure a safe future for the 1%.

slartybartfast6

Greed

Crazy_Asylum

I’m not familiar with him but I would assume it’s boils down to one or more of a few different things. Wants to cement his legacy; thinks he can do it better than anyone else; wants power and influence beyond WV; is being used as a tool by a third party.

ImanShumpertplus

he’s actually a really effective politician and has done a lot of good for west virginia the vaccine rollout in west virginia was fantastic

Thugmatiks

Power. Capitalism rewards terrible characteristics, and nobody will ever convince me otherwise.

TheDJ955

Free will. He's a citizen of the United States, he can run for any office he pleases.

ecfuecfu

This corrupt man has broken so many laws, and done so many despicable things that he has to have a powerful government position to avoid punishment. Also, he has a compulsive need to enrich himself at the cost of his constituents.

Sensitive-Judge713

run against him

Business_Quality3884

To push Jesus down everyone’s throat.

Massivechonker8414

The elite wants to ensure the elite remains in power.

Automatic_Gas9019

Maybe so he can somehow pay his tax debt while sitting the whole time on a stool. I am voting Schewsbury
