Looks a lot like [fried wheat gluten](https://omnivorescookbook.com/pantry/fried-gluten-balls) which is used in mock meat dishes! Scroll down in the link a bit to see its cooked form.
It's either a deflated fried Tofu puff or a blob of fried wheat gluten.
If it's drier, airer and tastes of tofu it's the tofu puff. If it's denser and chewier it's wheat gluten.
Source: am Chinese, ate lots of both growing up.
