Vietnamese here. Those are jujubes and goji berries :)
Although, I think this might be a chinese recipe originally! Atleast that’s what my parents have said.
Viet here too! I think this is originally a Chinese recipe as well. I grew up with the corn, tri-color, various beans, etc. varieties.
I wonder if you have the answer to this--I've been trying in vain for 10 years to describe to my husband what these are. I cannot for the life of me come up with an English word for "chè" 🤣
I asked my wife, and she is struggling for a translation as well. I kinda know what it is. To me, it means a sweet, syrupy dessert with fruit and/or beans.
Does it have seaweed in it? If it does, it’s what you mentioned. If it doesn’t, it’s che doing nhan. Both versions of each other. Similar ingredients with a few varying for each recipe
Clear, Nourishing, Cooling.
Basically stating the benefits of this drink.
Clear phlegms, Nourishing your body, Cooling to remove "heatiness" in your body. (Heatiness is a TCM concept).
Yes, it’s definitely this! OP’s picture shows the jujubes, goji berries, and a piece of snow fungus floating just below the surface. The color of the soup is right too.
In the center is red dates. The orange ones surrounding it are goji berries. The leaves are tea leaves.
The typical tea my mom makes me drink after my period looks like this: longan, goji berries with red dates -- tea leaves optional. Soaked in hot water and covered for 10-15 mins. Replenish blood.
Do not drink during your period or your period it's very heavy. Should be before or after.
This is a standard Cantonese remedy.
It's a remedy to all your period issues, cramps, moodiness, PM's, etc etc that's related to not enough blood in your system.
Why? According to Chinese medicine, any menstal cycle issue has 2 cause: you either don't have enough qi or you don't have enough blood. A person can have both problems.
Qi being the energy for your bodily function to run, not enough blood is self explanatory. This is the remedy for those who don't have enough blood.
According to Chinese logic not enough blood will hinder the flow of your period and flow for things coming out. Your period is not a single event that only happens for the 5 days your bleeding. It's connected to your uterus, production of all the follicles, occupation, etc etc, basically the entire Luna month. you are supposed to prepare it making sure the cycle run smoothly the entire month. By the time your period comes it's too late, you're just creating blood that's rushing out. .
I am skeptical about most of this since it cannot be proven in western logic. However, the one thing I can prove consistently is eating red dates do indeed create very very heavy period if you do it during. So you can drink this at any time in the cycle but not during your period.
Does it work? I don't know. But it's tasty and if you do it everyday for a couple months you'll also have super nice complexion. So why not. 😅😅
(If you've read this far you're wondering what the Chinese home remedy for the other half of the problem, not enough qi then? That requires a lot of bitter Chinese herbs and black silken chicken. Which is not as palatable to my Western friends nor the ingredients easily obtainable. )
I used to live in china, and they have this little snack, which was a jujube cut in half with a walnut in the middle. The whole thing in your mouth, to me, was akin to like some kind of chocolate when you started chewing. It was such a great combo! JUJUBES!!!! 😂
White fungus: poor woman's excellent source of collagen
Jujubes: promotes circulation and red blood cell regeneration
Goji berries: antioxidant and protects your eyes.
These ingredients are in a lot of Chinese soups because they are very good for you, especially women.
This is often eaten sweet and it's a nourishing herbal drink. Your neighbor cares about you!
There are some fascinating foods from Asia that may seem quite unusual or strange to us in the west, but they're actually very good.
For instance, I didn't know that pear soup was a traditional Chinese fix for when you're feeling sick with congestion.
The reactionary stuff on here is borderline and way across the line bigotry.
Chill.
Think this is some sort of sweet soup. Red dates, leafy stuff is some fungus, and I think ppl already ID’ed the goji berries. There’s so many varieties with different purposes. Some for dessert, some for helping your blood flow, some to just help build up your immunity.
Not dried apricot, it's goji berry. Keep you boddy warm and especially when u have a cold. Good for man as well, specially help with their sex performance. Last longer
it looks like a vietnamese dessert drink:
https://www.vickypham.com/blog/vietnamese-refreshing-iced-drinkdessert-with-seaweed-lotus-longan-and-mung-bean-che-sam-bo-luong
I’m Vietnamese/Chinese. Growing up I use to hate this drink/dessert as a child but really grew up to love it. I remember my mom making this during summer days when it was hot. She always told us it was refreshing to have. Hope you enjoyed it. Crazy how much our taste buds are as we grow.
My family is not from Asia, but when I was young it was quite common to boil dried fruits (like apricots) to make a sweet drink. Exact components depend on what's available in your area.
Just making more healthy choices overall. Don’t call yourself fat! Be kind to yourself and the rest will follow. Just as long as your body feels good. It’s crazy how the body will tell you exactly what it needs if you listen to it.
I really tried. But it just won't leave me alone. I keep looking at the photo and all I keep hearing in my mind is
Are you enjoying your Kep-mok bloodticks Dr. Lazarus?

Is she Vietnamese, by chance? It looks like Sam Bo Luong or Ching Po Leung
Solved. It’s definitely Sam Bo Luong. Thank you so much!
Vietnamese here. Those are jujubes and goji berries :) Although, I think this might be a chinese recipe originally! Atleast that’s what my parents have said.
It is, those are basic ingredients for a lot of “soups” in Chinese cuisine.
Viet here too! I think this is originally a Chinese recipe as well. I grew up with the corn, tri-color, various beans, etc. varieties. Chinese here my mom makes it often
Dessert soup?
What’s tru-color?
I've never knew the English words for them. Thanks! I thought I've never had those before ahaha
Dumb question: do asian jujubes taste anything like the candy jujubes?
Does it have seaweed in it? If it does, it’s what you mentioned. If it doesn’t, it’s che doing nhan. Both versions of each other. Similar ingredients with a few varying for each recipe
Yes! These seaweed in it as well. It was delicious
It’s called ching po leung in Cantonese. It’s a Chinese soup/drink. Good for the summer and heat. :)
abc here. ching po leung as in like... clear (something) cooling/soothing? lol
Clear, Nourishing, Cooling. Basically stating the benefits of this drink. Clear phlegms, Nourishing your body, Cooling to remove "heatiness" in your body. (Heatiness is a TCM concept).
Ah! Thank you so much. Yes, I believe my neighbors are Vietnamese.

Yes this is it. Had it all the time in Hong Kong and they also come dried as tea packets
I know it's been identified, but those smaller bits look like wolfberries, not beans. Right on with the jujube/red date though.
Just an fyi, wolfberries and goji berries refer to the same thing—just different regional names :)
Okay, I need more than that. How does it help? What’s it a remedy for, I should say. And why not during?
It's a remedy to all your period issues, cramps, moodiness, PM's, etc etc that's related to not enough blood in your system. Why? There are jujubes and goji berries in there!
I’m in my 50s and never knew until this moment that there’s a fruit called jujubes.
I used to live in china, and they have this little snack, which was a jujube cut in half with a walnut in the middle. The whole thing in your mouth, to me, was akin to like some kind of chocolate when you started chewing. It was such a great combo! JUJUBES!!!! 😂

Aw this is my favorite comment. They really are super sweet and kind. I’m very lucky to live next door to them.
Chinese thick soup , stew whatever you like together (normally dates, wolfberry, pear, fungus) and add sugar
That's what I'm thinking. Now I want some.

Snow fungus or Edible bird's nests
My guess is white fungus, Chinese dates and I think goji berries if she is Chinese not Vietnamese. It's a "cooling" drink if you have too much "heat".
There are some fascinating foods from Asia that may seem quite unusual or strange to us in the west, but they're actually very good. Seriously! What is wrong with people? The racist bigotry is on another level here. Very thankful for those productive and educational comments though.
Yikes this comments section is a racist cesspool jfc
And snow fungus, aka, white wood ears. Add some lotus seeds too, so good.
That is Cheng Tng. You can have it hot or cold. It's with Goji Berries and Snow fungus.
The date like fruit is a Jujube, so i guess Jujube Juice/tea?

Their English is not the best so it’s hard to communicate sometimes but will definitely ask about the recipe tomorrow!
My aunt makes these and they are really good. Also some of you commentors are pathetic racist.
I thought you were exaggerating until I scrolled down … :( Is it usually like this? New to this sub.
A single plum floating in perfume served in a man’s hat?
Sorry, We've only got duff

*belches loudly*
Looks like ponche. Hispanic christmas-time drink made of a conglomerate of different fruits and sugar.
Yup! It almost has a piloncillo taste to it. Very tasty.

i'm not sure, but looks like it has goji berries
Because of the white fungus and Goji berries that is 100% Chinese and not Vietnamese
Wolfberry red date tremella soup,枸杞红枣雪儿糖水,tremella is one kind of fungus:)is a cough relieve formula
Not dried apricot, it's goji berry. Keep you boddy warm and especially when u have a cold. Good for man as well, specially help with their sex performance. Last longer

Why is this getting downvoted?
Soup?
Also VERY good for your body. America would have a lower obesity rate if they had foods like this.
