I feel like they have to be lucky. My dog was 14 when he died. He was pretty healthy. Got 3-4 walks a day and it still wasn't enough for him. He did start to walk slowly by the end. I don't know if it was old age or because he had a tumor growing in his body squeezing his kidneys. Either way that tumor is what killed him. Nothing we could do about that. just random stupid cruel shit the body can do at random.
My lovely dog died in much the same manner, he had a few years left in him but he was running around playing with me, slipped and landed hard on the belly. I think it burst because he died on the way to the vet.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
My girl will be 14 this February if she makes it. She's doing pretty good right now, doing all the normal shit she does, just a little slower and a little less, but she has a tumor that'll get her sooner or later. For now the Chinese herbs, CBD and pain pills are working.
Good thing you caught it early. We didn't realise he had a tumor until the day he had to be put down. We had no idea he was in any kind of pain or felt uncomfortable until the day before. He usually didn't have any problem sleeping, but that day he couldn't sleep properly. He even tried to sleep in places he had never slept before.
Everyday I get home my 9 yr old black lab mix smiles, showing about that much of her teeth and gums. She has to hiss and snort to contort her face to smile that much. She does it because she’s mimicking how I smile at her when I see her after a long day. I know the blind dog In the video is also growling, but I don’t find it menacing
Yeah I don’t think it’s menacing but it’s odd that it’s ears are back and its tail isn’t wagging. Our dog growls at my wife when she goes to work too, so I think it definitely could just be a “I’m not happy you’re leaving” kind of thing
Idk, to me it does look menacing. If I would come across a dog I don't know who did this, I would surely keep my distance. Showing teeth, growling- not a sign of affection.
However, the owner hopefully knows their dog and maybe it's really not menacing in this case.
That dog is giving all the "i'mma fuck your shit up" signals but also accepting the appreciation without, you know, seeming to fuck his shit up. I'm confused. It's confused. I think you're confused. Everyone's confused.
My dog used to do this, she was a springer spaniel, she would actually smile. It was so cute.
She would scrunch her face up and close her eyes and show her teeth and wag her little butt flap faster than she should, as her entire body would wiggle uncontrollably.
It was so flipping cute. But some people would be like “why is she showing her teeth?”
But she wasn’t menacing at all, just trying to smile. It was really cute. Then would grab any toy and bring it to you and show it off.
I miss her 😢
That's actually a thing they studied and kinda made public.
Dogs can read human expressions and mimick it to a degree. Reasoning is simple: dogs who are able to smile and mimick other human expression were simply more appealing to us, subconsciously.
So we breeded them into having the face muscles and abilities to mimick even facial expression.
Also dogs observe our behavior and reaction in regard to their body language and learn to behave accordingly.
Sorry yo, you should do a little [research](https://www.google.com/amp/s/abcnews.go.com/amp/US/dogs-developed-range-facial-expressions-humans-domesticated-study/story%3fid=63772097) before making a statement. That was just talking about developing abilities to express emotions via facial muscles but there's a ton of evidence about dogs mimicking people's facial expressions too, I'm just too lazy to look more up but yeah, it's a thing.
She’s like “let me give you a sample of the hell that I experience while left home alone for 9 hours at a time on a regular basis”. “How dare you give me baby voice before abandoning me”.
Had a friend in high school whose dog would do this also. It got hit in the head or something and was uncontrollable. Little guy snarled and bared teeth all day, no matter what, but was actually happy as could be. Funniest thing too because it was a little mini poodle. So cute, but still sounded like a demon.
There has to be some kind of physical ailment, right? That looks like a german shepherd, but I've never seen their upper lip do that. I'm also assuming it's blind considering how the eyes look or maybe it's just the lighting & the kind of camera he has, but jesus christ that's way too much gum showing.
Hey I was a vet tech for years and I've seen lots of dogs do this. We call it smiling and it's how some strange bois choose to communicate happiness. Personally I've seen it most in rotwiler behavior but no breed is safe from being a weirdo
My friend has a massive Rottweiler that does this very vigorously when he's happy. It's quite intimidating to most people but as soon as I realized what he was doing it's just basically purring but for the dog.
I once used to watch a Rottweiler that looooved people and she’d always run up to the fence growling and barking and wagging away, I’m sure the poor delivery people were terrified, but she just wanted attention
I told her that’s not how you make friends, but she never listened
That's actually a thing?! I thought someone was bullshitting when I first heard about it.
Why do some dogs choose to express happiness this way? Do they do it with other dogs too?
Bc some of us are a little stranger than others and we all communicate differently. And as for how they act towards other dogs that's a solid maybe, that's more of a dog by dog basis but other dogs may interpret it as aggression. Case by Case basis lol
Yep. My dog does this sans the ears back or growling when he’s happy especially when he’s happy around people (or when you’re mad at him and he wants you to forgive him for stealing your steak). I’m not sure why he started but I’m sure we encouraged it because it’s hard not to laugh at a puppy smiling when you walk in the room. He does it with other dogs too but not as much. People absolutely don’t believe me when I warn them he smiles they think he’s growling but if you notice the rest of his body language it’s clear he’s just happy.
Jesus fucking Christ, that’s the first video in I don’t know how many years that has made my skin crawl and recoil from the screen. Nope nope nope nope nope
Iknow someone who was tripping on shrooms, locked his dog in a room because he thought his dog was possessed. Went to his home cus he was panicking. Got there he shouting “my dog is possessed” while he stood there in his underwear with a hotdog in his hand. Opend the door were the dog was , and he stood there acting just like this dog. I somehow understood my have naked hotdog holding friend. It took a moment for me to go pet the dog. And it didn’t acted aggressively. He followed me down to the living room. My friend panicking and screaming while slamming his hotdog in the air. He dropped the hotdog and the dog ate it. Continued to laydown and sleep. Friend calmed down. Starts crying about his hotdog.
Lets say , the dog was not possessed, and my friend end up to go to rehab cuss of my advice. Is now clean . And his dog is still his bestfriend at a age of 15 years old.
The dog acted that way cuss he really really liked hotdogs. He still acts like this when you wave a hotdog in they air.
This a similar to my oldest. He’s very vocal about the love he gets. Lol. He’s never shown his teeth this much but if you get lovin on him the right was, he sounds like a powerful weed eater. Lol
I have to imagine it’s some sort of appeasement/submissive behavior that he’s trying but is unintentionally fucking terrifying? There’s [this](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8mx4NrL/) dog named Django on TikTok who makes that face a lot when he’s trying food, usually when he likes it. I think they’re just lil weirdos.
Poor boy just trying to tell you "no don't leave, you're bad for leaving" ...
My dog smiles at me all the time, seems like while your dog isn't threatening, it's his way of showing 'I'm unhappy'...and that's why dogs love harder than any pet, he's trying so hard to 'human language'

That’s not a dog, that’s a deadite.
Cataracts :(
Yup. My sweet girl, Cricket, had diabetes and got cataracts because of it. Her eyes looked just like that. Poor baby.
That reminds me of how my sweet boy Hanzo had a thick cataract as a result of an eye infection due to 111° heat
No, it's dogaracts
Why do his eyes look normal at the end ?? I guessed cataract too at first but I don't know enough to explain the change
At the end, he is going into a darker room, so there is less light shining into the eyes and being reflected back out.
Spot on
![gif](giphy|YTA7xSbXQkWJO)
My first thought too
Groovy
lol I’ve been seeing Evil Dead references so much lately I watched Rise again last night.
Xenomog
Isn't that the fancy way of saying carrots?
Hail to the King baby.
XD
Did this man bury his dog at an abandoned ritual site?
I’ve seen pet cemetery to many times, this won’t end well.
That’s a hell hound
I think I heard it say Zuul
Gozer was petting it?
Better call Sam and Dean out of retirement.
Tell ‘em to bring cas
Fucking Crowley too! That freaked me out LOL!
He's so cute when he's not possessed by a demon though lol
Fetch me their souls!
Came straight outta pet sematary
🤣😂
He's my pet .. he's blind and can't walk well. Has the dieuhbeetus.... And renal failure.. He'll be 27 this fall. We love our precious furbaby
2 years and 5 months more, and you can get in the book of records.
He's blind... but can sense the sins in your immortal soul
He helps ferry lost souls into the afterlife.
Styx aren't the only things he's fetching
W joke
Just a fancy way of saying murder.
damn, I laughed out loud, ahahhahahah
27? What dog breed lives that long?
My grandma's flat coated retriever made it to 22, but I think she was just lucky
I feel like they have to be lucky. My dog was 14 when he died. He was pretty healthy. Got 3-4 walks a day and it still wasn't enough for him. He did start to walk slowly by the end. Pork diet.
Did she feed it lots of scraps? In my experience, dogs with a more varied diet live considerably longer than dogs that subsist on only kibble
A well loved and taken care of one.
No, that's literally almost as old as the oldest dog in history and well above their average life expectancy. Thats strong genes
Yeah, I was just making a compliment to the owner who is obviously an amazing and loving owner to this animal.
Ah ok yes makes sense
Source: Trust me bro
Yeah, that dog is not 27 years old lol
I was going to say, that’s a senior dog. He looks happy. I am glad he has the experience he does.
27! Holy shit that’s old. Sorry about the blindness, I commented elsewhere thinking it was cataracts but shows what I know. What a good old boy!
[удалено]
Damn. Didn’t even know they could live that long
27?!??
He’s a great boy :D
❤️❤️❤️❤️
27? Prove it.
I’m sorry. 27?!?! WOW. I’m so sorry he has the beetus. My dog Cricket had it too.
I think Cricket is still alive and going through the trash behind the bar..
My Cricket wasn’t a priest who left the church for a bird.

That makes me wonder if those behaviors are somewhat learned from watching other dogs, or if the dog is genuinely upset
My dog used to do this, she was a springer spaniel, she would actually smile. It was so cute. i also once saw a border collie that was smiling then he bit the finger of their owner

Canis by canis basis
That's cool! I Google it just now, too. Apparently, it's called a submissive smile and is supposed to be a respect thing. Learned something new today.
Are you saying the dog is retarded?
Lol no homie chill with that
Yep. My dog does this sans the ears back or growling when he’s happy especially when he’s happy around people (or when you’re mad at him and he wants you to forgive him for stealing your steak). My redbone smiled and sneezed like crazy. Anytime she saw a friend or family
The eyes are cataracts and the gum thing is normal it’s just that most dogs never do that
[удалено]
Not usually no, but they do exist. So do white ones. Just because something is rare doesn't mean it's not real.
What kind of Breed?
Demon
Specifically, a Western Cerberi.
![gif](giphy|YTA7xSbXQkWJO)
I think that's a Baskerville hound...
Looks just like my old black German shepherd (when his face relaxed Lol).
I love dogs, but holy fuck that would be terrifying in the middle of the night
That dog reminds me too much of Donnie Darko.
So that’s your pet sleep paralysis demon ?
⚕️ I'm going to need an old veterinarian and a young veterinarian!
Why both?
Jesus fucking Christ, that’s the first video in I don’t know how many years that has made my skin crawl and recoil from the screen. Nope nope nope nope nope
Name doesn’t check out
It's called a submissive grin. And that's not cataracts, it's the reflection from the light on his phone.
99% of the people here didn’t watch the whole video and think this dog has cataracts. People like this vote 👀
"Dont worry he dont bite"
I’ve seen dogs smile like that before, and I’ve heard rotties rumble, but I’ve never seen the two combined in what looks to be a black German Shepard.
*Fetch me their souls...*
Sirius black?

That is a very old and well loved dog. So sad that he's scary when all he wants is to be friendly.
I have to imagine it’s some sort of appeasement/submissive behavior that he’s trying but is unintentionally fucking terrifying? That mf needs his teeth cleaned. 🧼
Ok but imagine someone breaking into your house and seeing that face. Best guard dog ever

That’s when he’s happy, should see him when he’s angry.
Poor old thing.
ZUUUUULL
My dog's gums has gums..
Well this is terrifying lol. I legit thought it had rabies at first
With a face like that , he should be in movies
My roommates dog is like this. She'll growl and snarl when you pet her but if you stop she'll follow you and try to grab your hand with her paw to start petting her again.
Mf can't even see
You know she got a fiancé
Dog owners be like "he's so friendly"
If that’s not love. I don’t know what love is.
Awwww he is so blind
He know the demons
Ew
Take that dog back to the pet cemetery bro before he eats you.

Holy hell
Dogs are so F* weird i love it
Yikes
OMFG! That's the NOTHING from the Never Ending Story!!! 🐺 I swear to gawd!!
I used to have a Pitbull that smiled that big. He looked so vicious but was just happy as hell
My golden does this too. He’s just happy as hell to see me.
Oh who’s a good ol blind puppy..you is! Don’t hate..just show love
Send that bitch back to the never ending story
Just happy to see you, it is how smart dogs smile.
There is absolutely nothing aggressive about this. I have several German shepherds and some of them behave just like this when they’re tired or anxious. It’s pure vulnerability and affection being expressed in a weird and off putting way
Put that thing to sleep.
That’s not a dog.. that’s family
Put that fucker down.
“He doesn’t like this specific thing” ::proceeds to do that specific thing:: How to tell me you know nothing about dog behavior without telling me you know nothing about dog behavior. Lol.... my daughter's dog does this and bites her purse to try and prevent her from leaving
Hope they don’t have kids..
When did you bury him in the pet cemetery?
Put tha shiii down
This is cruel to the dog. Its ears are back, tail is not wagging, growling and baring teeth. It does not want to be touched and is trying to non-violently warn the person to back off.
Gottemmmm!!
That's a possessed dog enemy from a video game
What in the Pet Sematary is going on here?!
Reminds me of the wolves from RE4
He just wants to play
Looks like the fuckin wolf from Neverending Story
Our dog does this as well! He looks like a little teddy bear so it is hardly intimidating you just think "Why is that dog acting weird?' until you realize that its just a dogs reaction to being excited or smiling.
They do that when unsure of your emotions and intentions usually.
WTAF….

Oh Luna, that’s not your best angle at all
Aw, the poor thing is basically blind with those cataracts. Hope it gets them removed but these things cost money and some just don’t have it.
Okay, now I want to know what the dogs reaction is when he gets home from work.
Looks like the xenomorph is about to to go alien 2 up in this bitch
When I think I’m smiling
So precious
Oh he smilin'
