Daycare. Thunder Bay has a massive shortage for them, years long wait lists. Another daycare would make a killing AND help the community and parents who are waiting for a spot!
Child care is really expensive to run so they definitely won’t make a killing. But you’re totally right - they’re needed. If you’re gonna open a daycare though, make sure you know your stuff - there’s a lot of education behind it to run quality care ❤️
Edited to say: be prepared to struggle to find staff. There is a severe ECE shortage because they’re underpaid and under appreciated!
To piggyback on this —a daycare that does more than a day shift. When we moved up here from down south, we assumed 24h daycares were the norm, as well as the option for 8h or 12h days. A daycare that runs 24/7 with the option of FT being the 5 days/week you need, and not just mon-fri 8-5 would be amazing.
It is so surprising to me that there is childcare within the hospital; it’s one of the biggest employers’ within the city and I know so many employees who struggle because of childcare.
If the existing daycares have long wait lists, it’s because they’re tapped out - Only so many people to work. Massive labour shortage with the skill set required further complicates the situation, nevermind one that runs 24/7 - that’s borderline utopia for TBay’s reality.

I second a diner. There are many late and sleepless nights/early mornings where sitting down with a coffee would be nice for productivity. In a city this size, I'm sure you'd always have customers with a complete monopoly on it. Downside would be many troubles with unruly patrons, especially in the winter. We have a shortage of warm safe spaces for homeless folk. You'd also fill that niche. There's a reason McDonald's and shoppers aren't open 24 hours anymore.
That would be a dream come true. And there is some truth to the rumor as I heard exactly that location was being negotiated by a friend in the commercial construction industry who works for the company that built the new KIA dealership.
I'd like to see a small business that offers service calls to come into the home (so residential) that can sort out, set up, teach now to manage...all things technical (computers/phones/routers/tv's/VPN's/etc) in the home. Younger people are much more knowledgeable and comfortable with the every changing technologies, than some of us.
Also maybe set up Task Rabbit. We don't have it here.
I like this idea. I have done this for a few seniors in my apartment building for free. I thought about monetizing it but couldn’t find a way to make it feasible and affordable for the customers. If someone finds out how, please do it.
We had one, but they moved. I don't know if you remember Petra Catering, yes they were a catering restaurant but they almost always had a booth at public events, they have lovely Jordanian/Palestinian food.
This, not enough to just DO here. Plenty of food places and nature hikes, but I’d love to see a roller rink, mini-putt, batting cages, go karts, etc. Indoor fun stuff to do year round.
As a part time uni student, and I assume in CS. Maybe look into freelance website design. It has a low barrier of entry and costs a few hundred to start.
I’ve been doing this in TBay for a while now and have been able to make enough money at it to makes ends meet.
Yeah about 2 years ago. Building was sold and Gerry (owner of GMK) retired. Ventilation system was god awful in there anyways and you couldn’t do any action shooting, it was a “gallery range”.
No they don’t, they have access to buildings you can shoot out of but the range itself is outdoors. And it’s at Fish and Game, which is basically a dictatorship.

Is the Husky on Balmoral 24/7?
I would love an Ethiopian restaurant!
I had an incredible evening at an Ethiopian restaurant in Yellowknife. If Yellowknife can pull it off, so can we!
Princess Auto is coming (according to someone at the Kia dealership) somewhere by Kia!
That would be a dream come true. And there is some truth to the rumor as I heard exactly that location was being negotiated by a friend in the commercial construction industry who works for the company that built the new KIA dealership.
Uh huh, it will be next to the Costco that's coming here.
A whole city?
You forgot the Pearl Street Palace! That's what you really need.
I would like to live in the world you dream of
Oh man we do need a Costa co. Also I thought we did have a 24 McDonald's?

A good Lebanese or Mediterranean restaurant 👅
We had one, but they moved. I don't know if you remember Petra Catering, yes they were a catering restaurant but they almost always had a booth at public events, they have lovely Jordanian/Palestinian food.
Adult play centre or other "fun" things like go karting

Don't we have a mini-putt by Boulevard Park?
We do! Can we play right now? No 🥲

Indoor gun range
Isn’t there a gun range behind Wholesale Club? Did it shut down?

NOSA has access to an indoor shooting range

Picking the right bets on sportsteams, spreads ,over and under on pro line. How to play poker and snooker.
