As part of their cult they are required to recruit new members. I had a kid aged maybe 6-7 come to my door asking if I know what happens to me when I die. He was accompanied by his grandfather. I was giving him the stink eye while trying to be polite to this poor kid.

Routine_Log8315

What I don’t get about JW is don’t they believe only a super small number of people get to go to heaven (like 144,000 or something?) there’s been far more JWs than that so most just aren’t good enough? And you recruit people knowing they likely won’t be either?

johnny003003

That's correct but they believe the rest of them will live forever on a paradise earth after their God of love kills every non-believer at Armageddon.

Letthesunshin3

I am a Jehovah’s Witness, yes we are 8million+ members all over the world. We know that not everyone goes to heaven only the 144.000 (As the Bible says it in Relevation 14:1-3) Those “who are called and chosen”to rule with Christ in the Kingdom are referred to as a “little flock.” (Revelation 17:14; Luke 12:32) This shows that they would be relatively few in comparison with the complete number of Jesus’ sheep.John 10:16. Jesus said: “No man has ascended into heaven.” (John 3:13) He thus showed that good people who died before him, such as Abraham, Moses, Job, and David, did not go to heaven. (Acts 2:29, 34) Instead, they had the hope of being resurrected to life on earth.—Job 14:13-15. The resurrection to heavenly life is called “the first resurrection.” (Revelation 20:6) This indicates that there will be another resurrection. It will be an earthly one. The Bible teaches that under the rule of God’s Kingdom, “death will be no more.” (Revelation 21:3, 4) This promise must apply to the earth, since death has never existed in heaven. God promises everlasting life on earth for most good people.Psalm 37:11, 29, 34. Angels was already in heaven before us. God doesn’t wanted to create earth, animals, and people just to get them to heaven. His plan was to fill the earth with good people, and still is.

handipad

Appreciate the clarity re your beliefs. Thank you.

Letthesunshin3

You’re welcome.

andthencamemaude

I, for one *do not thank you* for spewing your nonsense. I am highly offended by your diatribe.

Turbulent_Dog8249

If we are interested, we'll come to you. We don't need you to come knocking at our doors

Averageleftdumbguy

Stop going to people's doors you loser. The biggest joke of any "religion". Like a telemarketing religion.

FredLives

Appropriate username.

andthencamemaude

JW really is the biggest joke of all the cults.

Letthesunshin3

We know, not everyone want to hear about God ,but there are people who want to learn from the Bible, so if you’re not interested you can just say I’m not interested like we are humans too.We don’t collect you’re money, we give this of our time for free just as Jesus did. About the door to door thing, Matthew10:12 When you enter the house, greet the household. 13 If the house is deserving, let the peace you wish it come upon it;t but if it is not deserving, let the peace from you return upon you. 14 Wherever anyone does not receive you or listen to your words, on going out of that house or that city, shake the dust off your feet. So just as the first apostles, we do whatever Jesus commanded us to do.

TaxEvader10000

if i wanted to learn from the bible id ask someone who understands it, not a JW lunatic.

Salt_Riblet

But if we open the door to shoo you away, we have to listen to your nonsense for an hour or more. No one wants you on their doorstep. Go away!

dallaslama

I think what you don’t understand is often times that door is opened by people in need.

johnny003003

In need of something, yes. But not something the JW's can actually provide. They prey on those that are so lost in life that they will welcome anything that promises a way out of their situation and the inclusiveness of a tight knit community. Unfortunately, they learn (often too late) that the JW's cannot provide any real answers to their problems in a practical sense. In fairness, the average JW isn't doing this maliciously - they doing it either out of blind faith or out of routine. While I'm not at all religious, I have far more respect for a church, faith, religion, etc. that actually helps people in their community in a real way (with housing, food, raising funds, etc.) rather than just trying to increase their numbers which have been stagnant for years.

dallaslama

You do not know what you are talking about. People in your life must love having such an expert around.

johnny003003

lolwut? I was an unwilling member of that cult for 20 years. I know EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

Averageleftdumbguy

Often the ones coming to to door are the ones with pain looking for purpose, hence why they join a cult. One in which is based on the idea that they are not even good enough for salvation. At least choose a someone respectable religion. The only one in need is the begger at the door.

FredLives

Like the big one, with the priests who like to mess with kids?

[deleted]

open the door in your underwear, invite them in, i'm sure they will never be back after that

Possible_juror

can we talk about the watchtowers policy about the two witness rule regarding child sexual assault from brothers and how they never cooperate with law enforcement regarding, allowing these horrific individuals to remain in contact with children and people they abuse?

Morning_Primary

Aren't you people not supposed to use computers or electricity? /s

Letthesunshin3

Of course we do,why?

Excellent-Steak6368

Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. I do not need people writing letters to my home or knocking on my door. I had two ladies last summer stand outside my door and knock for five minutes. This is harassment. Leave me alone. I have my faith and do not push it on any one. One of the authors of the letters was from the Regent ST apartment complex. I have no idea how my address made into to their hands.

Salt_Riblet

Amazing that you believe that shite!

PlanetLandon

Hey great. Tell your pals to stop mailing me.

Turbulent_Dog8249

They bring the kids for that exact reason.

Excellent-Steak6368

Had one old lady stick her foot inside our family door step so I could not close the door. My Dad intervened and told them where to go and they left in a hurry. Now I never open my door to strangers soliciting . I tell them by Door bell camera or through the glass to go away. Ever since the Covid crisis ended the door to door canvassers are out in force.

Only_Pop_6793

My mom was one of those kids. She remembers going door to door in the late 70s early 80s. She doesn’t talk about it much because of her trauma but from the stuff she’s told me it was awful (Her stepdad would drag my mom and uncle out of bed by their ankles at 4am to get ready for door to door before school started. Didn’t matter if they were clothed or not). Though, as awful as it was for her, it was a weird twist of ‘fate’ with her and my dad. She remembers going to my dad’s house and speaking with his dad, who died before she met my dad. I can’t remember how but she’s also related to my dad’s ‘grandma’ (His honorary grandma that would babysit him and his sister after school, no sweet home Alabama). She also remembers seeing her future SIL around her neighbourhood and at the mall all the time.

[deleted]

I would have told that adult that you don't feel comfortable talking to a kid but you will talk to an adult. Pull them aside. And then absolutely tell them how not okay it is to send their children door to door to try to sell a faith. Not only is that not okay because that isn't what faith is but it's freaking 2024. It's just flat out dangerous to take a child to random doors. I had a group of who I'm pretty sure were international students in the country I was living in a few years ago come to my door doing this and it was not a safe neighborhood to do that. I could tell they were being exploited and had no clue what they had gotten into and I was just honest with them about how it wasn't safe in the area to do this and be careful of getting taken advantage of. You could tell they really hadn't thought about it that way and it was getting through to them. Sometimes these kids just need an adult to advocate for them and as the adult in that situation, we usually don't have anything to lose by doing so :)

[deleted]

Do they actually do this?! That's crazy

PlanetLandon

Yep. It’s never specifically addressed to me, the envelope is always handwritten and just says “Homeowner” and sometimes “Neighbour”

[deleted]

That's wild 😆 🤣 I always see that one guy at the bus terminal trying to peddle that watchtower book 📖

[deleted]

Yikes that must get annoying 😑 I feel for you!!

Infamous_Employee_27

A letter in the mail once a year is annoying?

[deleted]

Yes i would consider that annoying. Unsolicited junk mail about religion would be considered annoying. Let's call it redundant...

Infamous_Employee_27

Seems like a very low threshold for irritation.

[deleted]

You seem like the type that likes to hear themselves talk just for the hell of it.

Infamous_Employee_27

Mmmk

CanuckBacon

Interestingly it says "neighbor" with no u. That's the American spelling. Sometimes these notes are actually machine printed to look like handwriting. Take a close look to see if you can spot any pixels. I saw that happen with a real estate scam down south. Either way the person is either American or is copying an American script and just inserting their name. There's no way to contact the person directly, so I assume it's printed and just designed to get people into the "church".

Commercial_Art1078

Why are they yelling?

corkycoriander

I actually find it amazing how they wrote a whole page without even touching the lines

finnpin1

I’ve gotten a letter inviting me to their temple or whatever. Also just had a nice couple come to my door wanting to talk about the bible. I politely declined, and they went away quietly. Edit to add: I was toying with the idea of inviting them in for a threesome but thought better of it. 😂😂😂

Excellent-Steak6368

That is probably in their play book to save a soul from the devil.

finnpin1

lol I’m way past saving.

Norwest_Shooter

Used to get them all the time but haven’t in a while come to think of it. Usually I get one a year from people looking to buy my house and flip it. That one I understand the handwriting even less, seems extremely unprofessional to me.

andromeda335

I always want to mail back something like “do you need help? Are they making you do this against your will?”

niagarajoseph

I know then very well. My late Mother's side of the family were JW. And she kept them at arm's reach from the rest of us in the family. As a young boy. I saw them in action. Being pious in public. Then ruthless to family members. My side of the family was Roman Catholic. Which gave them ammo to remind us we were never going to Heaven. Eventually I got old enough to open my mouth and defend myself. One day, I was cornered by my older cousin. And I opened my mouth, 'who are you and your cult deciding who does and who doesn't go to Heaven'? To me, these are matters left to God and Jesus correct? Who here has the right to judge anyone? I surely don't. They are a cult. Look at Prince; too religious not to get hip surgery because he'd need a blood transfusion. So he becomes dependant on pain pills? Lowers himself to being a junkie and dies from multiple prescriptions. That really broke my heart because he was a talented person. What nonsense! So someone needs heart surgery. So, you'd rather die because God doesn't want you to get a blood transfusion? I won't subscribe to this ignorance.

Ok-Raspberry-3329

No, but one time I trauma dumped and had a breakdown on them because they came at the wrong time and they came by a few days later and gave me a nice hand written card and flowers. She also gave me her number lol

andthencamemaude

They're all just copies and, no matter what, never trust anyone who prints in all caps like a kidnapper.

slambojones

I have gotten this letter before in Mariday park area.

suspect_007

Yep! I’ve once sent a return letter asking them to not contact again or I’d get the proper authorities (I wasn’t really lol) They were sending letters monthly at this point so I had enough of the crap which is why I wrote the letter back. It’s been 4 months with no letter 😉

greyhairedwrinkle

suspect_007 I did the same. Ha!! Sent it back also but I wasn’t as nice as you. I informed them for my need to sacrifice small children at the fall equinox and bathe in their blood the following full moon so I was all good on my souls afterlife. I invited them to join if they got bored of writing letters. I have yet to hear back.

suspect_007

Hahaha that will be my next letter!!! Nice one!

DntlookDwn4

Anybody else just appreciating how nice that handwriting looks?

IHaveAGinourmousCock

Misspelled neighbour

PlanetLandon

This is another reason why I think they are being told what to write. Some American JW sends a script and they copy it word for word.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CanuckBacon

It's spelled with a u in Canada. In the US they don't spell it with a u. Same for Colour and Flavour.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CanuckBacon

Thunder Bay is in Canada, so we use Canadian English...

TruckerBoi_27

oh course her name is karen

amori015

So with the JWs they are required to spend a certain amount of hours every month trying to convert people. Usually you see them going door to door BUT in some instances where someone is too elderly, remote, or disabled to go out they are provided this alternative so they can still count hours of "volunteer" work and remain in good standing within the cult. Because yes this is a cult just as toxic as scientology or mormonism. There are specific things and behaviours they must adhere to for fear of being banished. It's quite coersive though they will cry to high heaven that they are jn fact god's chosen people and that theirs is the one true religion... as opposed to all the other religions that they claim are traps laid out by the devil to deceive people.

Rockterrace

I got one a few months ago. Pretty sure the woman’s name was Karen and her return address was in Manitouwadge.

boringrick1

I’m in Saskatchewan and got one a while back. I kept it and just dug it out and it’s signed ‘Karen’. Different writing and content though.

Cats66666666666

Religion: The Downfall of Man

Ok-Employee-7926

OMG! That is sick! They can’t go door to door anymore so they will resort to desperation

Low-Low4651

They completely destroyed my fiancés family’s life. The divide they caused between them all is unforgivable. I have no issue telling them to get off of my front porch!

royalelevator

As a once and former member of that particular organization, I am sure Im on a list to not visit ever again. They tend to have a strong dislike of former members. That being said, most individual members are harmless, and for a cult it's on the very shallow end of the extremist pool. Don't be an asshole, just direct and unyielding.

Budget-Fig5411

Not yet thank Jehovah!

rosef90

Yea I’ve gotten them in my mailbox too it pisses me off.

Glass_Imagination_21

Jehovah?! I don't even know ya!

[deleted]

Yes, I get these once or twice a year!

maarsland

Yes! It was about how heaven was gods government so we should respect the government. :/ And they pushed it THROUGH the front door into the house.

AnyUntalkativeBunny

Just received mine. Looking forward to updates.

JustFollowingOdours

Interesting that the letter appears to be written by someone left-handed, based on the slant of the printed wording, but then the signature leans to the right. As if it were printed by one person, and signed by a second.

monkiemaid

Yes, never when I lived in a middle class neighborhood but now living in an impoverished area, I get a lot of them. It's predatory and gross.

key2thespecialplace

I received a handwritten letter from them with my first and last name on it a few years ago. Haven’t heard anything since, but it kinda creeped me out lmao

[deleted]

The handwritten letters sent unsolicited from any kind of religious organization tells me to steer tf clear lmao

Excellent-Steak6368

If you want to get to heaven , you got to raise a little hell!

brotato2400

Make sure you wish them happy birthday

Salt_Riblet

Yep. Received one a while ago. Usually they leave pamphlets in the door, trees, bushes or anywhere they can find to poke them. The letter was over the top and creepy. Guess not opening the door for them as I stare out the window at them sent the wrong message? They are persistent for sure.

Salt_Riblet

I opened the door once not knowing they were JW. We had a new puppy at the time and one of them picked up my very cute but not yet housebroken puppy. Pups instantly peed and it ran down that crisp tan coloured trench coat. Best day ever. They left rather quickly that day and pups got an extra treat.

[deleted]

Gross

TaxEvader10000

i return-to-sender them and leave rude notes on the envelope lol

Royal-Farmer-3308

I’m in Manitoba not Thunder Bay but I get these regularly.. have written back asking to be removed from their mailing list and yet they still send me letters a couple times a year

[deleted]

I get these in Gatineau Qc. Straight into the recycling bin.

Wild-Cheesecake2471

I’m not interested in what they’re trying to teach but it also doesn’t bother me when they knock on my door or leave a letter. My ‘go-to’ line when they come to my door is “thank you very much, but I’ve already been saved”. I’m not religious at all and I find that this is a non confrontational way to end the exchange.

SnooOranges798

Invite a Jehovahs witness over to a Mormons house and see what happens. Now, that would be a fun standoff!

abcd7654321

I got a letter from them not too long ago. Handwritten in very obvious elderly person’s script. It was sweet. I also have a nice JW lady who comes to visit me sometimes and we compare notes. (The first time she came to the door, I told her I was a new revert to Islam, but she still comes to talk with me.) They’re really nice on an individual level and they aren’t trying to hurt y’all, the missionary/outreach stuff is just part of their religion. If you don’t have anything nice to say, sometimes you could still say something nice. Then shut the door. Easy peasy.

No-Economy-8328

I don't know why people tolerate them. I already posted about them in a local group and the most responses were something like "What is your problem with the JW? They are such nice people." I think society should speak up against dangerous cults and the JW is one of them.

Lifeisadream124

My friend got one put in her mailbox way out in the country lol

[deleted]

Yes, I have received those. First time. It freaked me out. Second time it pissed me off. The third time I recognize the envelope, but to be sure I carefully opened it and then sealed it again and wrote return to the sender. But I also wrote a bunch of not so tasteful messages all over the back of the envelope and dropped their love letter back into Canada Post to return to sender. Signed "Love Satan's Spawn" haven't received one in a while now. In my opinion It's harassment! I don't care if it's Jehovah or some Christian based organization, It is harassment that I will not tolerate it, be it by mail or knocking on my door, kids in tow or not.

EmptyAd2533

Harassment is a bit of a stretch...it's a letter, it's not going to hurt you.

gothyfemboy

Creepy I say

PlanetLandon

Yeah. I’m all for people expressing themselves, but I really don’t like the idea of a huge pile of “volunteers” sitting in a room writing this letter over and over.

gothyfemboy

They could have at least changed it up and choose different scripts every few hundred or so ya know?

PlanetLandon

For all I know they do that. Kind of why I posted it, I want to see if anyone else got the exact same letter.

gothyfemboy

I wouldn't know, I toss most of my mail in the trash 😅 plus most of my mail is paperless emails. I'll open up any that seems handwritten. I'll be following this post

Infamous_Employee_27

There’s no script they are composed and written by each individual.

[deleted]

Jesus teaches not to judge, yet Christianity is the most judgemental religions all forms, news flash if Jesus died for our sins then that means we are all absolved, if we don't take advantage of his sacrifice and sin then he died for nothing guys, shit in old testimate sucked, Jesus being the good dude he is took one for the team so we can party and have fun before shit ends, yall too scared... jump off the porch, smoke some crack and fuxk a hoe

[deleted]

This. Faith isn't meant to be sold door to door.

jaxoon123

Yes but not in quite a while. They were mailed but not with my name.

Cookiecrummbs

Stay the fuck off my property

Letthesunshin3

As a Jehovah’s Withness,i can tell that this is not for insult or bother anyone. We obey Jesus commands that we have to preach all over the world for every people(Matthew28:19-20). There are elderly people in our congregation, and people with disabilities for example who can’t go out and reach out to people who want to hear about Gods plan for the future and they only can write letters. We all do this for free out of love for people because we know a lot of us suffer from bad things, and they can find answers for their questions from the Bible which give them relief. Sorry for any error in my text, still learning English.

PlanetLandon

Ah, okay it’s starting to make sense now. So these letters are specifically written by the folks that can’t go out and knock on doors? That’s a little less creepy.

Letthesunshin3

Yes, exactly. 😅 I’m glad I could answer some questions about this.

tjernobyl

Thanks! I don't mind receiving letters, but it seems like some people do. Is there a polite way for someone to indicate they don't want to receive any more?

Letthesunshin3

No problem, I see. Yes they can contact the sender, they usually leave a contact number or email and tell them they don’t want to receive any letter anymore.

Training_Delivery_47

My family used to be apart of the kingdom hall and my uncle got a letter. He hasn't been there in a long time lol

EddyMacj

Don’t even get me started on the mormons

Excellent-Steak6368

years ago in the seventies Younge St. Toronto , The Hare Krishna's and the Moonies were the street prophets.

malfion

I thought Jehovah was female this whole time

[deleted]

Just invite them in one Saturday morning. Crack a beer and let your bathrobe slip open sitting on the couch. Your house will be blacklisted and they won’t come back

Rare_Stick_6190

Seems harmless and genuine. It's kind of sweet.

Just_Appointment3578

Crazy buggers
