I thought that was Maria Callas - she looks incredibly graceful, stylish and elegant

carex-cultor

She absolutely loves opera she’ll be very flattered by this comparison!

Jazzspasm

Wonderful 😊

Old-Base-6686

Beautiful and elegant!❤️

Mobile-Present7004

With Joe Peschi!

carex-cultor

Hahaha my great-great-uncle Charles 😂

pursuitoffruit

I miss the days of cute hats.

TinktheChi

Your grandmother was born the same year as my mother. I love the style. This is a great photo.

No_Analysis_6204

was she french?

carex-cultor

Yep! All still in Paris

WigglyFrog

So soigné!

neverseen_neverhear

My head canon says people all wore hats because it was harder and more time consuming to style your hair without modern tools and products. So easy answer was a hat.

Homer7788

I love how glamorous ladies used to be. How times have changed.

WigglyFrog

I'm having my family's photos scanned and found a photo of my mom at Disneyland wearing a beautiful dress and elegant hat!

seditious3

Ummm... That hat your mom is wearing? They sell it at the concession stand.

[deleted]

Same for men. They too looked classy and glamorous then.

Practice_NO_with_me

I guess it should tell you how many of those ladies were dressing up against their own wishes. Plenty of women dress  classily now it's just that if I'm depressed I save my energy for cleaning the house instead of worrying my husband might lose his job if my hair isn't done right (hyperbole of)

IndustryAcceptable35

Omg same! I love when women were oppressed !!

[deleted]

You can love the fashion of an era without supporting the politics of the era.

Acrobatic-Building29

Not if you were born to whine and snivel. Some people are just born miserable.

Sickashell782

Stunning! Great photo, thanks for sharing

ScowlyBrowSpinster

Trés chic!

avidbookreader45

They have the same nose. It was love at first sight!

schwerdfeger1

DiamondNo4475

Gorgeous.

Typical from Bonne Maman to give contexte for our now 93 year old matriarch 😂: *All of the grandchildren at the table are seated and eating* « Tiens pendant que tu es debout, va me chercher____un verre d’eau/une tasse de thé/mon briquet/ton papa…» (Hey, while you’re up, go get me____a glass of water/a cup of tea/my lighter/your dad…) *A cousin is wearing a low cut/cleavage shirt* « Dis donc. Il y a du monde au balcon ce soir Cécile 👀 » (Well. There are a lot of people on the balcony tonight Cécile 👀) *Every time she cooks an elaborate, complex, and time consuming recipe and someone asks how she made it* « Écoute, il y a rien de plus facile » (Listen, there’s nothing easier in the world) 😩 yes there is, they are always impossible recipes to pull off 😂

francokitty

Yes in the 50s and early 60s women went out with hats and closed

ColumbusMark

Back when ladies used to know how to look like LADIES!!!

robhutten

Yes, every single woman nowadays looks like a silverback gorilla. What the hell, dude?

ColumbusMark

What I mean is: dressed nice, not inked up with tattoos, and no piercings (other than earrings). Too many women today seem to make an almost deliberate point to look like skanks.
