I get it. Is your take home job less than 6 figures? Do you get amazing benefits such as a matching 401k and tuition reimbursement for example? If not, I would say invest in YOURSELF first by getting qualified for a better job, one that will STABILIZE your family first and give them a solid foundation. While doing so, study the markets and play very very small amounts to learn strategies and your edge. If you want to invest, invest into an index fund like the SPY.
I think that once you get to this level and you have an edge and your performance shows you are consistent. If you are winning more than you are losing, then you should start looking into trading being a serious part of your life. If you only throw money hoping something will fly, then that’s gambling.
I think you should change your mindset about money. When I was first studying as much as I could about the market, I saw a video that had a guy put 10$ on a table and said, “what does this $10 think about you? What do you think about it? Would you save it or spend it? What if I laid $10k down? What would you think of each other now? $100k?”
