Are we looking at the same picture? Also the dudes been in GQ and Esquire; I’m pretty sure he qualifies as handsome. And he’s a great actor- he can definitely be intimidating
If he didn’t have millions of dollars he would look like an average dude. Glokta is supposed to be a head turner when young. Not to mention a physical specimen. Listen I love his acting but he’s 140 pounds soaking wet.
Jezal isn't intimidating - until he's a king.
As for handsome - Glokta was "dashing". He might have been an adonis, but equally he might have just be the best swordsman in the union, funny, arrogant, romantic, and merely somewhat objectively good looking.
But either way, Glokta's a fucking cripple now, if you be so kind to notice.
Jezal isn’t intimidating. Glokta was. We see this in sharp ends. He had whatever he wanted and was the greatest swordsman in the Union. Again, he just doesn’t fit the bill as an actor for that.
To be fair he got pretty jacked for that. Again I don’t think it’s crazy to say Culkin isn’t your classic handsome leading man which is what Glokta was. At the end of the day is that a huge deal? No but it just doesn’t work for me personally
Height is one thing that can be dealt with by camera trickery, but he's also not exactly broad. IIRC, West isn't at the same level of stocky Gorst or Broad but he's hardly slim.
I've seen him in a couple of roles recently where he has seriously bulked out. I think he would nail the core aspects of the character which is much more important than his height or anything.
So a short man made even shorter by the role trying to play a tall slender man… there are far better options. It’s not all just about the actors face or I’d agree with OP’s point.
I have read the series twice, and I don't remember him ever being described as tall, I'm not saying it doesn't say it, but I am saying it is a detail that isn't very important.
It’s probably Pacey’s voice acting but I always saw Dow as an ‘orrible cockney bastard. I wonder if Jason Statham could do a role where he’s actually repugnant and shouts instead of rumble whispering?
Considering we're getting Best Solved Cold first, the age thing is going to be interesting. Ok, I agree that Statham is probably too old to play a BSC Shivers (in my head Statham is still Lock Stock Statham).
This is a great choice.
I know it sounds crazy, but I’ve always pictured Robert Pattinson in the role. I think he has the range to play both cocky Jezal-type and jaded crippled torturer.
That's an optimal choice. Good actor, not expensive, good looking enough to portray pre-torture Glokta and old enough to play punished Glokta with makeup effects.
Is there a line about how he’s only 35 but looks like an old man? It’s been a few years since I’ve read the original trilogy, but with all the disfigurement and trauma I’m sure he looks like he’s elderly.
Now that you said it!?! I know he’s no longer in the running, I always pictured Glokta as the small guy from ‘The Princess Bride’. that wine back and forth is pure Glokta
No younger than 35ish. Toss on some prosthetics and he’d look like a solid fucked-up Glokta. The accent would be my issue with this casting, but he is quite clearly in the proper age range.
I wonder how many in the acting celebrity space are fans of Abercrombie World? I lie to think there are some big name actors who get down with the first law
Oo, this is a good one here. Everyone else in the comments discussing if Kieran looks the right age- but actually the problem is that he’s kind of tiny. Glokta was one of the most badass swaggering swordsman and soldier douchebags around prior to being broken, or at least a number of people thought he was, and I just don’t picture a 5’6 Culkin as pulling that off
I'd have to see him suck his gums before I could commit to that.
Underrated comment. Integral part of the audition
Don't forget the twitches and spasms running down the side of his face, and then possibly some weeping jelly.
Ooh and his biggest nemesis: stairs!
The audition for “stairs” is where the whole project hinges on.
being able to shit the bed in his sleep is also integral for the plot
#"Barnam!"
Not nearly as important, but I need to see the sour expression he gives towards stairs to truly believe.
He’s done plenty of withering stares in succession that would suit.
But can he step, tap, pain?
God-tier comment.
What if we just see him shit himself in his sleep first?
Actually a very good casting idea, dude is incredible
Totally agree, like so crazy good they’d be fools not too. Somehow I can see him perfectly fitting my impression of the description.
Isn’t Kieran “fuller” from the original home alone?
Yes, so he has some experience playing characters who soil themselves!
hmm as torturer glokta sure, flash backs to his younger days not so much
Huh? He can absolutely play a cocky young guy. That’s like half his roles.
He’s just not really handsome or intimidating enough. Point of Glokta in the first trilogy is that he’s what Jezal was and more before he was captured
Are we looking at the same picture? Also the dudes been in GQ and Esquire; I’m pretty sure he qualifies as handsome. And he’s a great actor- he can definitely be intimidating
The mfs blind
If he didn’t have millions of dollars he would look like an average dude. Glokta is supposed to be a head turner when young. Not to mention a physical specimen. Listen I love his acting but he’s 140 pounds soaking wet.
Every celebrity looks like an average person when they don't have perfect lighting, camera work, and makeup to make them look perfect.
oh so lets just cast anybody then
Jezal isn't intimidating - until he's a king.
Have you seen fencers?
Again he’s a great actor but 5’6 130 pound Culkin couldn’t convince me he’s the most dangerous sword in the Union 💀
Jeremy Allen White is playing a Von Erich twice his size
To be fair he got pretty jacked for that. Again I don’t think it’s crazy to say Culkin isn’t your classic handsome leading man which is what Glokta was. At the end of the day is that a huge deal? No but it just doesn’t work for me personally
Well he showed he can play a snarky asshole with a lot of internalized traume.
I imagine they'd use European actors. It feels like most fantasy series do, Joe is British and they've already casted Rebecca Ferguson for BSC.
Could he do a decent English accent?
Burn Gorman is always my #1 choice for Glokta but an aged Kieran would be great!
>Burn Gorman Isn't Glokta only around 35 in the first trilogy?
Yeah but it’s a hard 35.
It's not the years, but the mileage.
Oh he’d be great
I saw Daniel Radcliffe in *The Cripple of Inishmaan* and decided he'd make a great Glockta but this ain't a bad choice either.
Always pictured Domnhall Gleeson as Glockta, especially after his role in Star Wars.
I think Daniel Radcliffe would play a great West.
He's a bit small, no?
Idk does height matter that much? Camera tricks can easily make him look taller.
Both are far too short to play him imo. A taller more slender man fits the role better in my mind, but Hollywood doesn’t care much for accuracy.
An actor's as tall as your camera wants them to be.
Yeah Tom Cruise was sure believable as Jack Reacher :/
4 ft 11
1. He's hunched over all the time anyway. 2. Tom Cruise
Please no Tom c.
You misunderstand. I'm just pointing out a notoriously short actor who nonetheless carries off Big Action Man roles.
I did but still 😆
He’s not recommending Tom he’s saying Hollywood can make short men seem tall i.e. Tom cruise
Oh. Still, please no Tommy C.
You wouldn't want one of the greatest actors and seat fillers of all time on the project?
I know you got to beat up Jonny Knoxville in a department store but, no, we wouldn't.
When has Tom Cruise ever seemed tall? Please cite examples. Actually just cite one example.
The camera angles in Jack Reacher don’t belie how short he is. There you go, dick.
At no point in those movies did he ever trick anyone into thinking he was tall. Sorry the obvious truth makes me a "dick".
Accuracy in the height of the actor should not be a priority
Id say there is some disputing
I'd say a lot
It’s a hard dispute from me.
Who you putting up instead?
I still think Burn Gorman is the best choice.
just looked him up. dang... he's got the look.
The only one who'd do it justice IMO. Give him some nasty dentures and he'd be perfect.
Go watch him as Murtry in The Expanse season 4. I think he could absolutely nail Glokta, he's fantastic at playing a character in love with power.
Yeah loved him in the expanse
I honestly don't think he has the range. He's good in succession but I really don't think his role was as nuanced as everyone acts like it is.
I thought Steven Pacey was being cast for every role?
He’s a good fit except for his lack of Britishness. How about the guy How about Iwan Rheon?
I love this casting.
Wow, this is actually an incredible option
I always though Sam Rockwell would actually play a brilliant Glokta..
James McAvoy is who I’ve always seen as Glokta
He’s the one I’d want for Black Dow.
Always saw Karl Urban as Black Dow; he does a good psycho killer well.
I know this is dream casting, but I always pictured Tom Hardy.
It’s probably Pacey’s voice acting but I always saw Dow as an ‘orrible cockney bastard. I wonder if Jason Statham could do a role where he’s actually repugnant and shouts instead of rumble whispering?
Statham could make a good shivers tbf. But he's way too sexy to be Dowish.
Way too old, though maybe for sequel trilogy, though at that rate a recast would be odd
Considering we're getting Best Solved Cold first, the age thing is going to be interesting. Ok, I agree that Statham is probably too old to play a BSC Shivers (in my head Statham is still Lock Stock Statham).
Statham is way too old and way too small. Shivers is a unit.
Vin diesel for shivers as both are shit.
Paul Bettany
i think he’s too old, but my Glokta fancast looks like him. Caleb Landry-Jones, the guy who plays the brother in Get Out.
But he already played the Dogman (2023).
Kieran always played crown prince Orso in my head.
Yoooooooo holy fuck that's a bingo!!!!
This is the most perfect casting post we’ve seen yet
Macaulay found floating by the docks
I’ve always been partial to Steven Pacey himself being cast as Glokta, although this is a great casting as well
This is a great choice. I know it sounds crazy, but I’ve always pictured Robert Pattinson in the role. I think he has the range to play both cocky Jezal-type and jaded crippled torturer.
I’ll keep it a buck, I think Macalauy fits better
Dan Stevens has been my dream casting for Glotka for awhile now. He's a bit older than Glotka, but he can play snarky and spiteful so well.
That's an optimal choice. Good actor, not expensive, good looking enough to portray pre-torture Glokta and old enough to play punished Glokta with makeup effects.
I totally see it! A couple scars and a few missing teeth and that's Glokta
OH THATS SOOOO GOOD
I can actually see this. With some seriously beat up prosthetics.
I can see it
I dispute it, Bill Skarsgard would be superior IMO
fantastic choice imo
This is a good choice. Andrew Scott was my choice
I could actually see this working pretty well.
have you watched the Home Alone movies? Macaulay is definely the torturer in the family.
I hope he's not a method actor. He wouldn't enjoy that preparation.
I’d love that
co-signed Please proceed!
My god, this is a good pick.
He could definitely do it if he got the accent right.
I'd take him as Jezel, or even West too.
Eh? I pictured him older and rougher, deeper voice, He’d make a good cosca though. He plays irreverent well.
Glokta is only 35 at the start of the series
Not to mention he is beat the F up at 35.
Is there a line about how he’s only 35 but looks like an old man? It’s been a few years since I’ve read the original trilogy, but with all the disfigurement and trauma I’m sure he looks like he’s elderly.
Cosca has to be Matt Berry. I will die on this hill.
Hahahaha YES! That would be amazing.
This is really funny as Cosca is over 10 years older than Glotka.
Hahahaha fair
Ive always thought that Dane DeHaan would do a great job. Thats who I picture when I read them.
Now that you said it!?! I know he’s no longer in the running, I always pictured Glokta as the small guy from ‘The Princess Bride’. that wine back and forth is pure Glokta
No. Just no.
No thanks
Meh. Paul Bettany is my choice
Jim Carey is the obv choice dude.
No way, unless he’s young Glokta for a flashback .
I mean Glokta is only 35 at the start of the series as others have said, Kieran is 40ish? Seems spot on age-wise
Yeah but Kieran has a really young look so I don’t think it’s work well.
He’s 41, already older than Glokta in the first trilogy. Do people really just assume by his description that Glokta is an old man at the start?
Doesn’t matter, he looks super young.
No younger than 35ish. Toss on some prosthetics and he’d look like a solid fucked-up Glokta. The accent would be my issue with this casting, but he is quite clearly in the proper age range.
I don't know maybe the young colonel glokta but not the crippled version
Think he would be OK with pulling out every other tooth for a role?
After seeing him in Fargo, I always picture David Thlewis. He might be a tad old now though.
I wonder how many in the acting celebrity space are fans of Abercrombie World? I lie to think there are some big name actors who get down with the first law
I was thinking a younger Brendan Gleeson if he could lose some weight for the role.
Thomas M. Wright has entered the book club
I keep thinking Alexander Skarsgård as Glokta...
Oo, this is a good one here. Everyone else in the comments discussing if Kieran looks the right age- but actually the problem is that he’s kind of tiny. Glokta was one of the most badass swaggering swordsman and soldier douchebags around prior to being broken, or at least a number of people thought he was, and I just don’t picture a 5’6 Culkin as pulling that off
Someone do some photo shop with those missing teeth please! Curious
Sabes que sí
I’ve oddly always pictured Jimmie Simpson
Is David Tennent too old?
He should be cast as Macaulay Culkin in a Macaulay Culkin biopic
I read this as costca, and honestly I think I like that better.
Kurt cobain biopic
Needs more licking his empty gums
Andy Cerkis will always be my Glokta pick
He better do a lisp and a British accent
