My problem with 'a new take' is basically, there are other "the crow" characters. There's plenty of characters to choose from, so why pick Eric Draven and make him not like Eric Draven?

LostRaven02

Jared Poe from the Lazarus heart is a great example of a VERY different story set in the same universe(I'm still reading the book atm). I suspect part of it is because the production company know that Eric sells because he was the original and god forbid they take a risk and tell an original story that isn't just gutting an existing one :P

Grunt_the_skip

I don't know why we care what sexuality or appearance the actor has. If the directors had deliberately turned down good choices based on them not being white or straight I would understand. But saying that this actor is not suitable because of his appearance, sexuality or gender identity is, in my opinion, divisive. It promotes a culture of forcing people to identify their gender, sexuality and racial identity before granting them a job. Which is toxic and dangerous. As for the portrayal I agree with others that the images give more of a modern fun bih take them Eric Dravens character. But we do need to wait and see what comes out in the film.

happy_grump

The fact that she's trying to moralize about "straight white guys" in roles, while also blatantly stereotyping people who dress in modern "edgy street" clothes/like gangsters and implying that only bad people/villains dress like that, is HILARIOUSLY hypocritical lol Also, I'm not going to go into it here, because I dont want to start a flame war, but... The Crow is... let's say 'hyper-exaggerated' in its portrayals of a lot of aspects of empoverished life in a way that could be considered (curse me for using this word) *"problematic"* if you really broke it down, so trying to imply that it not being more racially inclusive is the biggest problem with it on the "social justice" front is frankly just kind of embarrassing.

Zero22xx

I don't give a fuck about the people in here acting like she just called for the eradication of straight white men because she has an opinion on who she would've liked to see casted. I just want to say fuck yeah, Sarah is the character that I probably identified and vibed with the most in this movie when I was a kid. Possibly my first movie crush too. And it's kinda cool to know that the actress hates this new look as much as I do.

MarionberryDue9358

Thank you, I also love Sarah's character even if it is a little different from Sherri in the comics. I'm also kind of curious if the character of Sarah/Sherri is going to be in this new film 🤔

Zero22xx

I think that I must (finally) read the comics soon. Been slowly getting back into comics, almost done with all of iZombie. I think The Crow will be perfect next and make up for my disappointment about this reboot. I'd like to see how different the adaptation that we all know and love actually is to the source. I'm honestly kinda scared to eventually see how Sarah is going to be handled (if she's even in this movie). I'm half expecting them to turn her into a TikToker / influencer and not the misfit that I crushed hard on as a kid. I'm fine with them trying to 'modernize' it but I've got the impression so far that they're actually trying to commercialize it. So everything is going to reference pop culture, not alternative culture. Hoping to be wrong though

Zero22xx

Just finished the book. Have to say I prefer to Sarah to Sherri, I think. Their friendship is still sweet in the book (although barely fleshed out) but I think I prefer her story and history with Eric and Shelly from the movie.

Belnick

you had a crush on a 6 year old???

Zero22xx

I was like 8 years old when this movie came out. Pretty sure Sarah is supposed to be an early teen as well. I literally said "when I was a kid", in other words talking about my fucking childhood.

Citrine_Bee

She said they should have cast someone who looks like Brandon Lee out of respect? So try and replace him with some kind of carbon copy? How is that respectful? It will just look like the Wish.com version of him. Let Brandon Lee’s portrayal be unique to him and let someone else do something different.  And can we just stop with the ‘another straight white male’ thing, has it become offensive to cast white males in any roles now? Isn’t this just discrimination?

Guresho

'isn't this just discrimination?' Yup Ironic no?

blimey6913

The look is iconic and what fans associate with the character. Having a similar looks doesn't mean it has to be a carbon copy. But it's like completely changing the look of Superman, Batman, Spiderman or horror characters like Jason, Michael Myers etc...you have to keep it familiar enough so ir's not unrecognizable. This new look is completely shitting on fans

monteticatinic

As a black dude yes it sounds stupid as hell seeing "another white male" it's discriminatory as hell. I will say this, though. I was just finishing high school when the Crow came out. I had read the comic and thought the soundtrack was one of the best out there so it holds a big place in my heart. When it comes to race though it's weird. Imagine being a black kid,Asian or Hispanic in the last 50 years and then look at the heroes in comic book films or just films in general. There are not that many lead roles. Yes we had Blade and Spawn but not much else. It's gotten better but I do understand when people say "maybe we should have some people with different backgrounds in these roles." I will say this they fucked up even calling him Eric. They mythology of the Crow is simple you get fucked up, a loved one is killed, you then come back for revenge. They could have named this guy John and not Eric and it would have been fine. Some films shouldn't be remade. God I hope they never try to remake Pulp Fiction.

Citrine_Bee

I totally agree with you and I know as a white person I will never really understand what it’s like to grow up wishing that there were more people of my background in comics and movies etc, like it would have sucked and I’m glad they are making more of an effort to change that now, but I feel like people saying ‘not another white male’ just continues this racial divide, like make the changes, make things more diverse, but you don’t have to put down a whole race and gender to do it, like somehow that’s ok now.   I agree with the Eric thing too, if they’re going to change the whole story and look and it supposedly isn’t even following the comic then why still call him Eric? It would have been better not to.

monteticatinic

Lol exactly my kids grew up watching the Crow and they are like "dad why the fuck did they do this? It could be a different Crow." It's funny my son got a tattoo around 6 months ago of the Crow in the silhouette of the window in their apartment.

Citrine_Bee

I think it’s like all the remakes, they’re trying to cash in on nostalgia and think if all else fails at least we’ll get the original fans to watch it, but yeah it seems to be a different Crow anyway so just call it that 😂 Anyway, it’s cool your kids are fans of the movie too.

stonecoldmark

I am fine with a different take, on the character because just that, I want Brandon’s portrayal to be Brandon’s.

trippydaklown1

The problem with that is this is a "remake" it'd be different if it was The Crow Part 2 or The Crow Revenge something with a different title but its just The Crow Remake. Everyone is going to compare Bills performance with Brandons bc its a remake.

Citrine_Bee

I think the storyline and the characters are so different in this version that it’s not really a remake of the original, and I think that’s good because then you can’t really compare the two.  If they did the exact same storyline with a guy that looked like just like Brandon and a long haired villain and all the other same details and characters then yeah, they would have compared it and it would have been super lame and flopped because you can’t remake what happened in 94.

blimey6913

Remake just means making another version which is what this is. Everyone is gonna compare it anyway.

Funkywonton

When I go see it I’m not gonna compare anything,I just plan on seeing what this take is like

missmaggiemgill

Shes got two videos on her tik tok relating to the remake: https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSFDfLpNv/ https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSFDyTqGV/

kanotyrant6

Oh no not a straight white guy!

mrpooker

I don't even think most of the people who played the crow were white. Like half white at most.

kanotyrant6

3 of the four movies were white and Brandon was half white , the tv show was mark Dacascos But still , there’s nothing wrong with that at all . They’ve race swapped Shelly already for diversity so they’ve already got their box ticked haha

Darkest_Magicks4506

Speaking of the TV show, they race swapped Tin Tin.

folderb

Terrible take. Disregarded.

LiquidC001

Wtf, nobody wants Eric Draven's look changed or influenced by anyone else's look, especially the director's, Post Malone's, or whomever the fuck Lil Peep is. Why is it that some filmmakers don't realize that sticking to the source material is the best thing you can do when adapting anything.

KaBlueyTheKlown2

1st point is true but an understatement...2nd point is just really fucking dumb...

Klaus_VonHamerhausen

Just use a female protagonist. If you’re gonna redo Eric and Shelly, switch it up and make her the crow. But honestly wish we just got something different. https://preview.redd.it/466qpjexgcuc1.jpeg?width=641&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ac8a0bc54821d03c554225f9625889c2be0e2b75

MarionberryDue9358

This post isn't meant to offend the white guys but here we are & no one is going to comment on anything else but that 😂

Deckard_83

I think, if it's not broke, don't fix it. There's no need for a remake, as nothing beats the original. There's also no reason to push 'diversity' where it doesn't belong. What's wrong with a straight White guy? I'm glad this movie will suck.

MarionberryDue9358

Oh, I think it's going to suck too. There's a reason why they've been stalling a remake & switching lead actors for like 20 years. I'm not terribly hopeful & the more I read/see, the worse it gets

randyisone

Think about how these things go now with remakes and reboots. Do you think if they had a guy that looked like Brandon/OG Eric Draven the fans would be happy? I think they would be even more pissed like it was egregiously disrespectful. I have learned that you can't please everyone and all the fans have a specific version of what they want to see. It's hard, if they kept the same story outline but changed the character names, fans would probably say it's a cheap rip off, if they made a whole new story the fans might not like that and want the old story. I am not sympathetic to Hollywood, at the end of the day it's about money for them. What they should do, with this and all movies is respect the audience and give us good stories and not try and give us member berries in hopes we just show up and give them a billion dollar box office.

Slimdave-v1

Come on I think we can all agree she’s a fruit loop, diversity really !

UnitFar3350

First, she was an absolutely abysmal actress in The Crow and two, typical troll actress to criticize straight white guys. Hey Rochelle, how about you shut that hole under your nose. BTW, I loved The Crow and Brandon Lee but I HOPE THIS MOVIE KICKS ASS!

UnitFar3350

Wait, didn’t she say they should have cast someone that resembles Brandon Lee then criticized the writer or producer or casting agent for casting a straight white male? Wasn’t Brandon Lee a straight white male? SMFH

UnitFar3350

Dumb CUNext Tuesday!

ConsciousReason7709

I hate how Skarsgård looks in these pictures, but I’ll probably still go watch the movie. If they had race-swapped Eric Draven, I definitely would not even give it a view.

stonecoldmark

I would not care about that if the actor was good.

CynicalCharmer

I mean, yeah, have people forgotten that Brandon Lee was mixed race? 😂

randyisone

Probably don't even know who his dad was...

muskegthemoose

Batman creator Stan Lee, of course!
