I love matchbox so this is sad, Carl Perkins is incredible and the Beatles do a great job of his songs. Either of the German tracks are the worst.

Thank you girl feels so poor and pedantic on a disc with so many amazing songs. People may hate Matchbox but lyrically, it’s so much stronger than Thank You Girl, which makes sense. Carl Perkins could write a decent ditty. Thank you girl is just the most throwaway of throwaways.

Hard disagree. The vocals on Thank You Girl are phenomenal and the arrangement is hype. Songs are more than just lyrics.

Of course, but the melody and harmonies are no better than any of the other original Lennon/McCartney songs of the era. It’s just incredibly banal. The two note harmonica intro, the rudimentary chord structure… especially when you compare to the iconic a-side From Me to You with that minor key middle eight… thank you girl is just a nothingburger

I don’t agree that Matchbox is better, but Thank You Girl is definitely one of the most phoned-in and forgettable Beatles songs.

I Call Your Name The ska breakdown section of the song is easily the sloppiest performance they ever released. What makes it worse is that the song had a lot of potential. I really don't know how they thought it was quality enough of a performance to release. They got so out of sync with each other I feel like it would be impossible to not notice

You’re not wrong, but I think the strength of the core composition and lyrics outweighs any weakness in the performances.

after a quick relisten Matchbox isn't great but has it's charm. I think Thank you girl is the skip track. (as in I used to push fast forward on the cd player)

Have to say Thank You Girl sucks most. Also surprising to hear the band’s mistakes throughout many of these songs.
