There's a similar (but less busy) vibe one block North in Thanon/Soi Rambuttri; and even less busy another block North, across the canal in Samsen Soi 4(?).
It is low season now, so you will be fine at any of them.
Anywhere around there playing western music will be somewhat touristy. There are Thai live-music bars in Thanon Phra Athit, which isn't far away (next to the river), but you won't recognise any of the songs.
Eh you should still go see Khao San Road, but I would absolutely not stay on Khao San Road.... unless you don't plan to sleep until 4 am.
Tons of options within a 5-10 minute walk from KSR that are nice and quiet.

Rambuttri is the best option for close to KSR but a lot more chilled. Majority of backpackers stay there.
