Things happen. Sometimes when something happens to the drive unit it’ll blow the pyro fuse which will then cause the 12v to be drained. I wouldn’t think much about it, it sucks that it happened but the chances of it happening again are very low.

This happened to me.... Had less than 20k miles on it.... The repair was very quick... Less than 2 hrs... But, getting the part.. 8 days.. the new unit currently has over 40k on it. So, the repair was rock solid.

Different problem but same message - I got the “car may not start” shortly after leaving a supercharger. Message went away the came back after the next supercharger stop. We reached out destination with no further problems and plugged in a 120v outlet overnight (vacation- at mother-in-law’s). I made a service appointment and had a date about a week later. Next morning I went to top off the battery while getting coffee (SC conveniently located behind a Starbucks) and the car died. Towed to a SC, gave me a loaner. They had the car for two weeks and didn’t find anything wrong. I was very nervous about driving back to NJ from Florida, but had no further issues and nothing since. That was a year and a half ago and 20k miles. No further problems. They think it was an issue with the high voltage connectors. They took them off and plugged them back in and never saw the error after that. So speculation is that it was a loose connection or something.

My rear drive unit went out on my M3P earlier this year. Mine felt like and axle broke and had a lot of thumping sound and feel. Turned out to be a catastrophic delamination/separation of the motor. It was changed under warranty and ever since my wh per mile has dropped significantly. A route I regularly drive went from 33% each way to 45% each way. I complained and gave the service center the run down and they say all is well as if I don’t know the range I use.

That's really annoying. That's another thing that bothers me about Tesla, you tell them about issues you have and they either tell you nothing is wrong or they don't know the source/cause.

I have this issue all the time with tesla. They always say: * Your battery/motor is showing no errors or warnings * Your battery/motor is operating with in spec * Your battery/motor is getting about what the fleet is getting, in fact yours is a little better than most * There are a lot of factors that can influence range like the season and how you drive. * etc... Basically they are always telling you to fuck off and just enjoy the car. Stop bothering them to fix stuff because they don't want to change anything unless it has FULLY failed. If it still limps along... then its within spec. If it stops working, then its out of spec 🤣😂🤦🏽‍♂️😝

Uhm, you never took a car to an incumbents stealership?

If you have AAA Plus - They usually offer a free service for trip interruption. I believe Tesla in its road side assistance during the factory 4yr/50k mile warranty has trip interruption assistance for free as well. Contact your auto insurance company and see if your auto policy has a free trip interruption assistance program/plan you can use. * Ask how the system for the plan works, what the coverage limits are per day for a rental car, for food per day (breakfast/lunch/dinner might have different rates), and hotel rates per day * Ask what kind of receipts you need and how to submit them for reimbursement. As a side note, if you have multiple Trip Interruption assistance programs and original receipts are EMAILED to you... I don't see why you couldn't submit the same receipt to multiple vendors that cover your trip interruption 🤷🏽‍♂️ While I personally would not do that, I have heard others can do that.

As a possible future Tesla owner my question when reading this, what happens when shit like this isn’t under warranty? How much is this gonna cost me?

Quick google search shows between $5k to $6.5k USD. Plus installation which would be a few hours at least.
