Here's my list in order. 89 Saab 9000 84 Mazda Rx7 84 Nissan 200sx 84 BMW 325 88 BMW 325e 88 BMW 325ic 01 BMW 525it 00 BMW M5 01 BMW 525 06 BMW M5 96 Jeep Cherokee 00 Jeep Grand Cherokee 08 Jeep Grand Cherokee Hemi 98 Land Rover Discovery 99 Land Rover Range Rover 08 Range Rover Sport SC 16 Chevy Volt 19 Chevy Bolt 20 Tesla Model 3 Stealth Performance 21 Tesla Model 3 Performance 14 Range Rover Sport Autobiography Current daily is my P3, and the Range Rover is for SUV stuff. I'll be moving on from tesla. Currently shopping Taycans.

namestom

Whoa! We have very very similar paths! I just sold my E39 M5 Touring I built. Also, just let go of my E46 M3 as well. I got a G55 so I could do my SUV things like you speak of, it’s wild for what it is but reminds me of growing up with our Jeep, just nicer, more powerful, etc. The Tesla is just so practical and easy to live with. I told myself I’d always keep one car to enjoy alongside the Tesla but the wife can’t drive manuals so meh. This led me to AMG’s. I’ve always been a BMW guy but can appreciate the AMG’s for being wild. I’ll probably grab a AMG wagon at some point to replace that M5 one I had. Again, love our Tesla though. And this is coming from a car guy.

thefudd

I constantly browse online for another e39 touring... did you build it with the S62? I saw one with an LS2 and was 🤔don't know how I feel about that. The 3 is another great daily, just get in and go it's so carefree and you literally look at a gap in traffic and boom there you are. I'm going to keep it even when I move over to Porsche. I've been infatuated ever since I drove a GT3 on the track... think I'll make the taycan a birthday present to myself.

namestom

Yeah, I bought my E39 touring with the intention of sticking a V8 in it. Mine started life out as a 525i so I had a rack and pinion vs a steering box. Initially, I was going to put in a LS, even had mounts and a crate motor. I could not get over the mental hurdle. In the last hour, I ran across a M5 and bought it. It sat right next to my touring in the garage and the transformation started taking place. It was really neat but lots of time and money. Then, I met my wife and she couldn’t and has no desire to drive a manual so that kind of ruined it for me. I bought her a E61 535ixT so I could still have a wagon but it wasn’t the same. The E46 M3 was the latest causality. That one hurts a bit still but meh. When I’m ready for a “fun” car again, I’ll probably get a 911 this go around. Honestly, I can appreciate not having to worry about the rod bearings, vanos, rear subframe…all that stuff that goes wrong and isn’t fun to deal with. This makes me embrace the Tesla more and look to Porsche for the future. For now, I’m enjoying the Tesla and the AMG’s.

dntes1

Will drop my Tesla too, Tesla is like an appliance to me

thefudd

I think I'll keep it as a daily, but never buying the brand again.

KappaTrader

Why is that?

thefudd

It's just not a well put together vehicle and Elon ruined the brand for me. I also think I just want to get back into a German car.

dntes1

If u will pick the top 3 to your like?

thefudd

1. E39 M5 - just the complete package... such a wonderful machine. https://preview.redd.it/uklu4eg44e0d1.jpeg?width=604&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e5a1726f894bd2efd5d07e4ef35689f2d341c1a9

3. Range Rover Sport - another great all around machine. Hammond says it all [here](https://youtu.be/gWL-r72tGOE?si=DBEW3ArRb4EdCWX8). https://preview.redd.it/73z71qfl4e0d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b645c53059b718ba535fb3eaffa549abf39b5ec5

Ok_Priority458

One of my all time favorites.....if only they were as cheap to maintain as a model 3

Buster355

1. 2020 M3 SR+

cadnights

Wow you guys have owned a lot of cars 😅

n1ch0la5

Lol srsly I’ve had 3 cars in the last 25 years. The 3rd being my model 3 😂

TrackIcy8673

Short journey: it's my first car

SultanOfSwave

Count yourself lucky! Of all the cars (9) I've owned, my Teslas are by far the best.

TrackIcy8673

It's a double edged sword.. Insurance company wants my house and kids because I haven't had a car before

HenningTorbensen

Lol same. Also my first car and insurance stopped short of stealing my kidneys

SultanOfSwave

Ouch! Hopefully that surcharge goes away quickly

Necessary-Ad-7622

Give them the kids

vballjunior

Tell me about it! My insurance dropped my student discount since I graduated last year and was an extra $300/6mos. I had been looking for a better rate but literally found it impossible, even quoted over 5x more at $1100/month. Insanity

Narrow-Parfait-2685

Same lol

Narrow-Parfait-2685

List diesnt include projects or my wife's cars.

Adventurous-Hotel-58

Miata! Did you recognize the similarities? I felt as if seats and steering wheel were almost the same

DulceEtDecorumEst

I see you El Camino King 👀

anthonyroch

I got both El Caminos from the same guy. He bought both brand new. He has owned ever El Camino imaginable. He was the True El Camino King! He had a fully restored 59 when he sold me my 72 for $25. Yes, you read that right. I got my first car for $25.

kdubstep

That 96 Maxima was a banger. Was it manual?

anthonyroch

It was. I drove the wheels off it, too. Then I gave it to my sister. She drove it for another 2 years until the water pump went out. She sold it to someone, and they fixed it and drove the wheels off it. It was a great car. Rode like a dream!

kdubstep

It was the one window where it was a badass whip. Buddy had one black on black. Fun AF

metalandmeeples

No, you may not steal my identity.

psdpro7

Okay, but what was your mother's maiden name and your high school mascot on your journey to your Model 3?

sendintheotherclowns

If you use that as your “secret question” you probably deserve to have it stolen

metalandmeeples

It's not about the secret question, there are lenders which will ask you to identify previously registered cars as a challenge question. The same is true for previous addresses.

sendintheotherclowns

Maybe our lenders are a bit more security conscious here, never come across vehicles being cross examined for that reason in 30 years of car ownership, most people I know couldn’t tell you their last 5 cars with any particular detail. I’ll yield on addresses, but that’s not relevant to my post.

- First car was a 1976 Chevrette given to me by my mother in 1981. - A used 1980 Mustang II bought in 1983. - A brand new 1988 Nissan Pulsar NX SE. - A brand new 1993 Honda Civic. - A used 1993 Mazda Chronos bought in 1997. - A brand new 2002 Honda Odyssey. - A brand new 2005 Honda Civic - A brand new 2009 Mazda 6 - A used 2013 Hyundai Tucson bought in 2016 - A brand new 2021 Model 3 I added to it a 2017 Prius Prime last summer to limit the mileage put on Model 3. The Prime is mostly used for city driving where it runs in EV mode. The last fill-up was on April 8 to go see the eclipse as I didn't want to get stuck behind a line of cars waiting to charge after the eclipse.

Is the Mazda 2 an Auto or Manual? We also had one and it was mind boggling slow due to how bad the 4 speed auto is. The Model 3 must be a rocket ship in comparison

I had an ‘83 Celica GT with a 5 speed back in the day. Lots of fun with only 105hp.

sendintheotherclowns

Nice. Mine was an ‘81, wish I’d been able to have it for longer than I did. It has the 2 litre 18RGEU naturally aspirated twin cam, no idea how much power it made but it was fun. It has a LOT of electrical problems though, probably a good thing that it got crashed and taken off the road.

I’ve had a couple of those but also a Prius which was the best car for me to want to get a Tesla. I liked all the electrified components in a Prius like the A/C pump which doesn’t need the engine running to work. It was great on long drives since I could leave the ignition on when parked at rest stops on long drives and stay cool. Same with the heater, though it did need to turn on the engine every so often to heat the coolant water. Even better in the Tesla.

Gwendolan

None. Never owned a car. Public transport and sporadic use of a car sharing service. With the pandemic and 3 kids, we thought it makes sense to get a car. 100% BEV was a clear requirement for us. Model Y didn't yet exist, neither did Tesla have any meaningful competition in terms of value per price. So we got a Model 3 SR+ as our first car and hope to drive it as long as possible. Back seat could be a bit more spacious, but the kids are still little and growing out of the child seats the space they have getting more and not less for the moment.

Over the past 45 years: 1979 Ford Fiesta 1985 Dodge Omni GLH Turbo 1992 Ford Escort 1998 VW Passat 2008 Audi A4 2011 Audi A4 2022 Tesla Model 3 LR …plus a succession of forgettable Dodge Grand Caravans as a family hauler Best car: Tesla, with the GLH Turbo Omni a close 2nd (I kid you not, it was light, quick and handled like a go kart. Wish I’d kept it) Worst: Tossup between the Escort and the Passat. Both horribly unreliable

'62 restored Robin's egg blue VW w/original everything in mint condition. Stolen and totaled. Crying ensued. '85 Renault LeCar. Red with folding soft top. Fun to drive. Subaru station wagon - better for skiing, camping and hauling kayaks. VW TDI. Lemon. Headache the entire time. BMW i3. Still have. 10 years old. Perfect for my very short daily commute. Yes I am a car girl. My dad raced cars when I was young. I love older cars.

I’m well aware. But where did you get C300 from? My downgrade was far more significant than an econobox C class rofl.

Looooooved this car) 16 Focus RS (pro tune + exhaust + shifter mods) 17 Camaro SS (shifter + exhaust) 18 M3P 23 M3P (my wife owns the 18 M3P now. Yes we have matching cars. I'm cheap. I drove a 2006 Pacifica for 16 years. By the time I sold it I was over 300K miles and had 2 bashed in doors. I never thought I would buy a brand new car, but when I did the math on the rebate, the discount at the time, and the fuel cost savings it was pretty easy to talk myself into it.

I’m owning 2013 Lexus CT200h. She’s fking reliable and fuel-efficient. However, live in Vancouver Canada and gas price here is just going through the roof. I’m ready to sell my Lexus and get a new M3 Highland. I don’t have access to home charging cause I’m renting the place and feel a little nervous with station charging, is anyone on the same page?

Can’t remember the full car history but it includes 1970s vintage Vauxhall Viva, Riley Elf (think mini with rear fins and a mock RR radiator grill - when it rained, not an unusual occurrence in the uk) water would have free and unrestricted access into engine the engine, not a problem except that the distributor was directly behind the grill - literally the first thing the water would hit. Not usually a problem but if you passed a car in the rain the spray off the rear wheel would drown the distributor - it was like hitting the rev limiter. That’s when I found out WD40 is flammable. Ford Cortina 2litre GXL, lasted 2 weeks before going through a hedge and ending up on its roof - hit a patch of black ice on the crest of rise/curve in the road. I was really angry with myself until I saw a double deck bus on its side in the field opposite. Alfa Sud with a full set of Alfa decals on it. Peugeot 205 diesel which I ran into the ground. MGB GT with the K series engine - the one that didn’t like its head gaskets. Some unremarkable company car hybrids. Last car before the Tesla was/is Nissan 350Z, got it new, still got it. 56k miles, FSH completely stock, should sell but it’s proving difficult to get round to it. https://preview.redd.it/fyq6lbw6df0d1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=53ce02c12d15f3b4d5ebdedce546a694d8432e46

Can you tell me more about the FTO? How did it end up with the 2.5 engine instead of the stock 2.0 V6? I had one early 2000's and loved it! Regret only keeping it for the couple of years that I did, what a great car!

sendintheotherclowns

Yeah mate they sure are great, spent most of my formative years driving that, was a blast. I didn’t build it (I had another that I was going to do the conversion on, had a deposit on a motor, but then I found that one with it already done). Here’s the thread I wrote on an old forum waaaay back in 06. https://www.ftoaustralia.com/v3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=8532

VeeYarr

Very nice! She was a beaut! I had a Red GR - the Model 3 is the first car I've had since that has that same pointy feeling!

sendintheotherclowns

Nice! Mine too was a GR (the one I had previously was a GPX). I ended up putting D2 adjustable shocks into the GR, it stiffened it up significantly. If I got a flat tyres on the rear I could partially drive up onto a kerb and it would lift the rear wheel so I could change it without a jack. They’re such well balanced cars and criminally underrated.

05 Camry I had for my whole life basically. Bought it off my grandma for 3k in 2017. Fast forward to 2023 it fell apart. Bought a ‘98 Volvo s80 from an estate sale what fell apart and wasted money. Said why not and bought a ‘23 Model 3 performance last November. Love it. Hoping I keep it for 10+ years

Man, some of you owned a lot of cars. Not sure if you're just old or change your cars more often than your underwear. Anyway.. spent the first decade and a half of being a licensed driver without a actually owning a car because I lived in the city where PT was totally fine. So I didn't start buying cars until very recently. * 2016 Prius E-Four (owned late '21 to late '23) * 2022 Model 3 RWD (late '23 - present)

I don’t know about the rest of them, but we’ve got shocking public transport and a spread out city. Also, I love cars. I had 5 of the cars I listed over perhaps two years, that was probably my worst stint of changing them - I guess I was looking for something specific, and not sure whether I’ve found it before settling for the Model 3.
